The Wayne Makie, Ted Green stick swinging fight in a pre season game between the St. Louis Blues and the Boston Bruins in 1969 has to qualify as one of the most serious incidents in the NHL. Ted Green had to have surgery to remove bone chips from around his brain. I believe Makie was only suspended for 30 days though.

i really appreciate the vids but i can’t understand how you do your tops? a lot of suspensions were missing, like the initial suspension to Tom Wilson after his hit on a St.Louis player, or even Raffi Torres’ suspension. it’s to bad that this isn’t an accurate ranking, but the vid is nicely written anyway

Don't make excuses for that Henderson one Wideman had plenty of time to notice him and get out of the way. Saying he did'nt see Henderson is bullcrap by the time he was skateting to the bench Henderson was already there and he was looking straight up with the ref right in his line of sight. Unless your near blind there's no way you could possibly NOT see a guy in a black and white shirt.

Dale Hunter had said he believed the play was still going on. I have the Washington Post newspaper from the day after the hit to the suspension for referencing. Thus, he hit Turgeon accordingly. As a Caps fan, even I do not believe that crap. He knew what he wanted to do all along. Yes, I do believe the suspension was justifiably warranted.

@Travis Alexander wow, I bet that was a shock. As a fan, just do not expect plays like Hunter's happening in person. I agree: Hunter played with an edge. I don't agree of his actions. The hit on Turgeon was the albatross I believed kept a championship from happening during his tenure.

Wideman was clearly pissed at the refs not calling the hit and had the same reaction as Dale Hunter did. Even if he was dazed, you could tell that at no point did he turn around after bumping in to the official, making it pretty obvious that he tried to act as if nothing happened

You got the first one a little bit incorrect. King Clancy upended Eddie Shore with a check. Eddie Shore either mistook Ace Bailey for Clancy or thought Bailey was the one who hit him. Red Horner actually played for the Maple Leafs, and he responded by sucker punching Eddie Shore, knocking him out, Despite this Shore was not seriously injured.
@MoneyHoneyBunny2 жыл бұрын

McSorley is technically first as he was banned for life. Jfc kinda wild how you could basically kill someone on the ice before the new rules and they'd be like, eh, 3 games.
@j0hnny4832 жыл бұрын
None of these suspensions are strong enough. If you use your stick to purposefully strike a player above the shoulders, it should come with a permanent ban from the NHL and criminal charges. It should be the same if you strike a player who has fallen to the ice and is defenseless. Anything short of this and we're teaching our kids that if they want to change or end another player's career, they just need to sacrifice a few games and feel shame. Not sure when the NHL will wrap their heads around this. Imagine if you two fisted a random person, with a club, on the sidewalk or imagine if you grabbed a cop and started to throw hands...how is this any different?

Wideman 100% should not have been suspended. The league has no problem running tapes back to look for supplementary discipline, but not to negate it? He clearly had just smashed his head into the glass, he LITERALLY GRABBED HIS HEAD and went to get the hell off the ice, and even after, he's sitting on the bench clearly confused. Did he ever get checked out for a concussion himself?
