Two years ago, I got a huge pay cut at work and had to quit. I didn't even like the job, but I was upset that it happened and I had to go find a new one. I ended up having to go back to school and completely change my career. Last year was grueling, but when I finally got a new certification, I was blessed with a job right after I finished. It's much, _much_ better employment pay-wise and in terms of benefits, it's a much more promising career path in the long term, and it's finally a job that I actually enjoy. I'm so grateful that the Lord "broke my bow" that year. If He hadn't, I may have stayed in that stagnant, miserable job path for years more, never progressing professionally or financially.

I'm increasingly loving this portrayal of Laman and Lemuel. In the cartoons, they were always hot heads to emphasize their eventual fall. Here they are much more nuanced. They follow their father and respect him at first mostly because of tradition, and slowly and steadily become more unrighteous as they constantly choose to harden their hearts. It's a breath of fresh air
@Edwahlq5 жыл бұрын
Agreed! It's easy to picture their eventual fall when you've got this image in your head of the prideful characters depicted in the living scriptures cartoons (which are great! don't get me wrong). But seeing them in this light makes it easier to see tendencies towards hardheartedness and lack of faith in ourselves. I mean is it really that far fetched for a man to be angry at everyone (including God) when his pregnant wife is starving? It makes them more real and more instructive for those studying the scriptures. It can be easy to say 'I'll never be like Laman and Lemuel' when you're picturing the angry, murderous cartoon characters. But saying 'I'll never be like Laman and Lemuel' with this depiction in mind carries more weight.
@wtylerb5 жыл бұрын
I also enjoy how respectful Laman is to his wife. Even though his descendants fell away from the Lord, the Nephite prophets would point to the Lamanites as an example of family life later in the book! Like you said, I love the nuance!
@broadwaybrook23193 жыл бұрын
@@Edwahlq Yeah, and when he said, "Our women have borne children in the wilderness," and they're starving, I thought, "He has a good point. He's right, you can't argue with that." In these videos, Laman and Lemuel's actions are more understandable and you can't blame them for complaining for the hard circumstances their families were living in. They're not as one-dimensional as the scripture cartoons depict them to be, they're good-intentioned, but not always making righteous decisions. Like in the previous episode, it was Laman who told Ishmael and his family that they saw an angel

My favorite part of this story is the fact that Nephi still had respect for his father Lehi, being the Lord's prophet was the one with the authority. So when he was done making the new bow, he went back to his father to ask the Lord where he should go look for food. Nephi is such an amazing individual who had such unwavering faith beyond anyone else. He becomes a great prophet and leader later as the Book of Mormon continues. I love Nephi's example and look to him often as I try to model myself after him and other amazing men in this wonderful book that is a companion to the Bible in testifying that Jesus is the Christ and the true Son of God also showing that it is the word of God.

I noticed that even though Nephi believed that the Lord would provide for them, he didn’t sit around waiting for food to come. His faith included an understanding that he was an agent to act and not something to be acted upon (2 Ne 2:14). So he did all he could by first making a new bow and then went and asked his father where to go to find food. A powerful lesson about faith.

I took to heart Elder Peter Johnson's talk this past General Conference about his insights/studying of the Book of Mormon and started reading everyday, everyday, everyday with the same intent that Elder Johnson shared. Since, I have been reading with the same intent, I have grown tremendously, in the past 12 days or so, AND THEN having these videos? has added more strength to my testimony of Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father's plan and the Holy Ghost. We are so blessed. Someone might have said this before, but when I saw Nephi crafting the bow and arrow (1Ne16:23) in the video I immediately thought about how this experience had to happen to give Nephi insight into his abilities and capabilities to build a ship later on for/with his family. Then, when you read later in verse 29 the scripture reads to the end "And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things." I thought, YES! Imagine what we can do! when we put the Lord first in our lives. I will keep reading "everyday, everyday, everyday" the Book of Mormon as Elder Johnson counseled.

Sariah says: "If only each day could be as joyful as this." That really gives you some understanding of the fact that they were just like us and didn't WANT to go through all of the difficulties they went through and it adds extra meaning to: "For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my firstborn in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility." (Lehi, 2 Nephi 2:11) All of us have our own trials and struggles throughout our journey, but with God's help we can make it through our struggles and all things will work together for our good.

I love this story in the BOM because it illustrates the great faith of Nephi and shows how the Lord allows us to have trials to test us to our very core even when we are living righteously. It also illustrates that prophets are imperfect as even Lehi murmured against the Lord with this trial, but ultimately repented and was blessed. The details of bows and how they can lose their spring are interesting and provide further evidence of BOM authenticity in an ancient setting that Joseph Smith could not have known. The Book of Mormon is true which has been confirmed to me so many times during my life by a witness of the Holy Ghost. These videos are a great blessing to help us gain more insights and understanding off the Gospel. So grateful to be a member of this Church!

I have read from the Book of Mormon almost every day for several years, but something new that I am understanding through watching these scenes is how incredible and valuable each person is. Though the Book of Mormon shares how Laman and Lemuel (spoiler alert) eventually broke away from the faith of their father and let their aggression and hatred turn to murderous intentions, I cannot help but think of how many times they must have shown great faith in God throughout their journey. This scene, in particular, reminds me of how often I treat my life and trials like Sam, Lehi, Laman, Lemuel, Nephi (on a very good day), and the others. I feel like I have walked in each of their shoes at one point or another, and when I see strong emotions portrayed in these videos I often remember some of my own intimate experiences with learning to know and trust God. Thankfully, I feel that the Lord has always been there to help me get back up on my feet and keep going no matter how I first react.

I have learned from this that as the member, we shouldn't look unto the members of the Church because they're not perfect like us, and if we just focus on what we are doing especially to God because we know that He will provide our needs as long as we show our love to Him and accept all the trials that we may face and we could learn from that. THANK YOU to ALL who had a part in the making of these very special video representations from the holy words of the Lord through His ancient prophets for us NOW in 2019 for our days! I LOVE the music, the directing, editing, costumes, make up the landscape+ the acting and all the thoughts and prayers that are going on now and in the past to bring these pictures, driven especially by the music coupled so beautifully and deeply into our minds and hearts through the holy words of this VERY SPECIAL and SACRED BOOK of scripture. The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ!

It was an emotional video for me, cause my family learnt alot from this video. The principle of obedience and faith works together. Nephi also uplifts the spirit and the faith of his father Lehi even though he was a prophet, which simply means any members of a family can be the one to lift the spirit and faith of others when they are down. May God bless his servant the prophet.

Nephi's faith was great. But I so admire his father, Lehi, for carrying such a heavy responsibility as a prophet, a visionary, and as patriarch of his family. Anyone judging him for having a momentary lapse of faith need to think about the burden he carried on his shoulders leading his family.

A nice insight I felt when I watched this today: the Book of Mormon for us is like the Liahona to Lehi's family--the power and direction from its writings only comes from "the faith and diligence and heed which we give unto them."

Nephi was a leader and a Teacher among His brothers. When his descendants stopped being teachers of the Word of God and the True Concepts of what being a Child of God, and instead they were taught the wrong things and got influenced by other societies, that’s when their civilization crumbled. The Book of Mormon is Wonderful and just as the Bible with old and New Testament, gives examples and testimony that the Way of Lord is True. Wonderful videos!!😊😎😇

I loved this story. I couldn't remember the bow, so I am so happy to watch it and remember. How can we wait until next sabbath day.

Nephi persevered. He has always been an example of a wise steward of the Lord and blessings pour upon Him and His family. I love this episode, it inspires us to always seek Him in every detail of our lives.

Im not really a believer of this religion (or any religion if im honest) so i dont really watch these episodes for the message. What keeps bringing me back is the production value. Absolutely beautiful. Keep it going guys!

That look Nephi has when he shoots the turkey in the beginning of the movie, is just so satisfying! Good on the actor who portrayed him!

I'd like to see these videos compiled into one movie. Like Lord of the Rings, but you know, this.

Keaton Lee This is more like a show than a movie though, since it’ll be much, much, much longer. Since it is on youtube, if the church doesn’t compile them even longer, I am sure someone will afterwards.

A super-cut would be amazing. It would at least be 3 hours long, or more!

Extended edition!.... For example: the part where they skipped the description of what the second dial does on the Liahona.

Non members have been doing with the New Testament videos. A 2 hour long "movie" of Christ last 24 hr. Very possible to do but need time to assemble the whole piece together.
