Great runthrough! One note - at 25:45ish, you rolled a 1 for Merry/Pippin and didn't want to select it because it would have moved them on to a space with a "Heart/corruption" symbol. However, according to page 5 of the rules, if another figure is already standing on that space, "the fellowship is protected from any further harm on this space." In this case, you had Aragorn on that space so Merry and Pippin wouldn't have taken damage/corruption.

Most LOTR games are extremely expensive and intricate. When I saw this, a cooperative game that takes an hour, I had to get it. Your video was very helpful as I prepare to play it tonight!

The dice mechanic makes it feel like a deeper game than it is, which is a good thing. Forces everyone to think and work together. Easy to learn. Reiner Knizia's LOTR board game is still the classic, but this was decent and fun.

Would never say Wormtongue could NEVER take out Galadrial.. LOL... I love that Tolkien made his characters not overly powerful.. including Gandalf... heck Wormtongue took out Saruman :) Great video.. definitely wants me to get this game! Well done!

I enjoyed Markus's playthrough so watching yours was a no brainer, thanks Colin. Great fun. Who said roll and move games were dead? lol Good to see you back, btw. I missed the Marvel Encounters. Super interesting system. I like the choices even among the rolling. That second encounter die roll does feel like you don't have a choice there, which I guess works in the theme. It feels comparable to the Reiner Knizia game from ages past, which feels like it was longer but with more choice power. I find the lack of Gollum disturbing, but maybe he was in one of the discarded cards or only in the Mount Doom set. I like the art, but almost too cheerful in places. In the Witch King Encounter with Eowynn, I kind of feel like you need to roll dice one at a time. The wording "Immediately" on her card imply that rolling a 6 early in the battle could save you. Not sure if the rules speak to that case. Over all, thanks for the playthrough. I need to go look at the designer on this game. I really like that mechanic system.

I think gollum is in the mount doom set, not sure. Yeah with shelob. And I think you might be right on the encounter with the nazghul and the witch king!

At 39:53 you pushed legolas into helm's deep (he should be one in front). The next movement of legolas you moved aragorn istead of legolas and vise versa and you moved him 5 spaces instead of 4

Your supposed to roll 1 witch king die at a time. The odds are the same sure, but if you roll a 6 earlier on, you don't have to do the rest of the battle.

Lord of the Rings from FFG is my favorite and a classic. However, FFG no longer makes the expansions for it, which added some cool options like Sauron as a playable character and combat.

I kinda like the system, although a more abstract implementation with a bigger encounter deck library and one generic path that would continually be customized and recycled would probably be preferable. The LOTR theme is nice, and the board is beautiful, but I can't say I'm too optimistic about the replayability. Also, let's not beat around the bush, this is so obviously a single player game masquerading as a multiplayer experience. :P

There is a Witch-King encounter card in one of the later stages. This is when you use the Eowyn card. See 54:26.

this looks like a single player game, I don't know how this works as multiplayer.. might become a situation where 1 person makes all the decisions and tells what to do and others are just rolling the dies

Because each player has a turn rolling dice and then choosing the 4 and that means they are making choices on shared characters

Since we have only 2 black dice I wonder if the Witch-King of Angmar encounter means we roll 1 dice at a time for each Nazgul or maximum of both black dice at a time for every 2 Nazguls. Also rolling 7 dice (for 7 Nazguls as you did) have 72% chance of rolling a 6 and avoiding any damage by killing them. Well you had the 28% chance of not rolling a 6 but it is what it is. It is a big difference because if rolling one after another we might die before rolling a 6 (which is 16% in a single dice roll or 30% in both black dice roll). Is there something in the rule book about that? Rolling dice not coming from the game doesn't seem logical. The cards says roll the black dice for Nazguls. I will not bother you with all the mistakes (wrong number of spaces, wrong characters moving, etc.) you've made (and no Klingon subs for them), because that's not important. What's really matter is you demonstrated the game as exciting as usual and I really like the simple and thematic gameplay, so I am looking to buy a copy. Thank you, Colin. Keep up these fun playthroughs.

Only difference with multiple pple is that you let them roll the dice ha! So no special powers per person etc. It really is a solo game with multiple people.

On the vid presentation. One thing. Using the card-board pieces included in the game , their base color, matches the dice of the game. But using Mini's(from that gorgeous $1k set :) that have no matching base color to this game, , is rather confusing. rather than 4 chits=4 dice IMO, More a solo game, than 1- 4 players/Up to 4 players. Does it have 4 Quick reference cards/sheets included? Watching this vid , I rate this game, PG-13 , 😎

@@OneStopCoopShop Yes, I heard your initial comments, about using these minis but in this YT vid , 3rd parties really can't see those colors on the minis. IMO , you either use the in-game card-board ones, or you paint the bases of those minis to the proper dice color of THIS game. Regards, I will wander off now 😎 LOL
