The Edmonton Oilers were by the far the favorite against the Los Angeles Kings in the 1982 Stanley Cup playoffs. They were breaking records, had Gretzky in his prime (who was also breaking his own records), and their new division rival Kings were...not. But in game 1 when the Kings won 10-8, everyone was put on notice. The Oilers tied up the series before heading to L.A., and then went into the 3rd period up five-to-nothing. And then, the Kings scored 5 in the final 15 minutes, took the game to overtime, and made history happen.
