The Loss of Personal Interaction and Communication

I think the loss of personal interaction and communication has a lot to do with the situation this country is in at present. Covid just accelerated the loss. Somehow we need to get back to it. Social media doesn't help. The act of being there in person gives you better context for the interaction. You can see their reaction, see their eyes and discuss something like adults. Something we haven't had in a long while.

Found your channel because KZbin put it in the feed. I think it’s all deliberate- breaking up the family units for years, making it difficult to have one parent stay home to make the home and raise the kids. Division by race, by political party, gender, generation xyz, ethnicity. It all gets pushed. It’s all up to us as individuals. I promote intentional communities, local things. Running for local offices. I have a worry that there will be an October 7 style attack, everywhere all at once. Millions have crossed the border, people unvetted. I worry about an occurrence like Beslan but across the country, overwhelming the systems. I talked about a book recently written about 9/11, Touching History. The stories of the pilots, the air traffic controllers, the military as it was all unfolding. They all said we weren’t ready. But enough for now. Glad to find your channel.

Couldn’t agree more. I am relatively new on my neighborhood, 2 1/2 years. I’m cordial to everyone and wave as I pass by but most don’t look or look away. I have 2 neighbors who speak sometimes. My kids text me when they feel like talking. 30 minutes of texting would equal about 2x minutes of actual phone talk . But to the young generation that’s all they seem to know. It’s the new generation . It’s a forever changing world. For some things the texting is good, the reminder messages and some notifications. But as far as that’s the way to communicate, I’m not crazy about it but no choice at this point. But it sure is nice to have a conversation with a person especially when they don’t have their phone in their hand 1/2 paying attention. These smart phones changed everything. Let’s see what’s next.

What's next. That's an important thing to think about. Where are headed from here? All this tech has a purpose and good use but we seem to be using it for a poor substitute for things that have always worked. Removing the personal side of things just makes everything worse I believe. Thanks. Steve

It’s been going down since trump announced his candidacy in 2015. He’s done everything he can to divide family, friends, and country and to divide us with as much anger as possible. He made it okay to be rude, to demean women, minorities, veterans, and the disabled. Subsequently both sides have done a lousy job of pulling us together. It’s literally only been in the last 3 months that I’ve seen any change in people’s behavior.

@@HeatherHughes-r1o It's not the truth, that is just your feelings probably because you like him and therefore won't hold him accoutnable. Trump objectively changed the tenor of politics in the US for the worst. If you don't believe me go watch the presidential debates between Bush Jr/Kerry, or McCain/Romney/Obama. Remember when McCain defended Obama from the racist grandma in his audience? Hell even Reagan and Nixon would be considered tame by comparison.

I highly doubt Trump started it all. Exactly the way you see things is exactly the way I see them but from the other side. Makes more sense to me. Russia collusion, Black lives matter, Stolen election, woke, gender fluid, Me to, Afghanistan withdrawal etc. ring any bells? Trump gets blamed for it all but had nothing to do with pushing any of it like the Media and Dems. Talk about dividing. Just the way I see it. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Take care. Steve

@@stevescorner2702 I’m blaming Trump for being rude, mean, demeaning and divisive and encouraging and normalizing that behavior in others. I’m not blaming him for the events you mention. Rather than resolve those events, he exacerbated them. He really really hates nonwhites. You need to think long and hard about the choice you made to be born a straight man in white skin. Oh, you didn’t make such a choice? Well neither did other people make it either and that’s no excuse for mistreating them.

Hello I just came across your channel. You're so right about how people are today. I still write letters, send cards and make phone calls to people who need it. They really appreciate the added note just asking how are you doing today or wishing someone a happy birthday or happy anniversary. It is so good to lift a brother or sister up and let everyone know you care.

Something we all did a few years ago but now it's just about lost. Amazing how a simple thing like dropping a note or a simple actual phone call can make a person feel. You just never know how much it could mean to someone just to say hi once in awhile. A simple gesture could mean the world to them. Thanks and take care. Steve

Just a shame what Uncle Joe and crew have done. It was bad enough before when they just shouted you down, lied about or to you etc. Now they want to totally ruin your life and arrest you for not doing what THEY say you should do or think. Just makes it hard to be a simple person and enjoy life. A little truthful and regular communication and interaction would be a big help. We have to be open and willing to listen to each other. Just thinking. Take care. Steve

As I was approaching retirement I thought that instead of continuing to deal with the western society rat race along with the spiraling cost of living and everything else, I should think about some kind of alternative. Something that could open up new views and activities. A complete change of pace. So I pulled the plug on the U.S. and never looked back. It's been seven years now and I am very happy with the way things have turned out. All new stuff, lots of new acquaintances and never a dull moment. I'm renovating a house and pursuing some other hobbies and doing it all comfortably at a small fraction of the cost of living in the U.S.

Cell phones are great and the web is a fantastic tool but there should be a little less use of them and more person to person interaction I believe. You can’t even get customer service in the US! Try dealing with big corporations or companies looking for customer service. You are sent to countries with super thick accents. You ask to be transferred to an office in the US or with someone who you can understand better because they won’t talk slow enough so you can understand their words and you get a so sorry, no can’t do that or you are transferred and conveniently disconnected. Mom said it best when she was dying. Glad to be leaving because this country is going to H**L in a handbasket and fast!!!
