Can we quietly appreciate how much of a chad the Grandpa is in this movie? He lives off of Hostess and Orange Soda, he goes out on steamy dates every evening, and has basically weaponized the Kramer Entrance to slay vampires as if they were common house pests. Fun fact: Keifer Sutherland actually broke his hand during the first day of shooting while trying to impress some girls on his motorcycle (typical 😅), which is why his character always wears gloves. There’s one split-second scene at the boardwalk where you can see the wrapping sticking out of the bottom of his glove. My older cousin thought it’d be hilarious to try & scare me with this movie when I was 7, only for it to instantly become one of my favorite vampire movies of all time. DJ Cogdill he broke his hand, on the *first day* of shooting, *before* they’d even started filming, *just* to try & impress some girls. Honestly I’d use the word “irresponsible” to describe his behavior, but he’s also a guy, and *every guy* I’ve ever known has done something that stupid, sometimes not even to impress a girl, they just do it because they think it sounds fun & end up getting hurt in the dumbest ways over it. But that’s just my personal experience, so...😅

This was Corey Haim and Corey Feldman's first film together, which marked the start of a popular 1980s trend "The Two Coreys," in which Feldman and Haim starred together in a number of teenage films. Corey Haim jammed with his co-stars between takes, and enjoyed the large props room. Excluded from the nightly parties held by the older actors, Haim bonded with Corey Feldman as they stayed in the hotel watching movies and visited the local arcade. Gerard McMahon wrote the theme song "Cry Little Sister" after reading the script, but without seeing the film. In the documentary Bloodsucking Cinema (2007), Corey Haim said that all the blood had glitter in it to give it a shimmering effect and was "slimier than other fake blood." When asked why he did the film, Joel Schumacher simply stated: "Vampires are hot. They're the only erotic monsters. Frankenstein is not hot." The film is titled after the companions of J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, who remained forever young. The names of the Frog brothers, Edgar and Alan, are a reference to Edgar Allan Poe, the well-known writer of horror fiction. Kiefer Sutherland's role as David, being one of the lead cast members, had the fewest lines amongst all leading and supporting cast members. At the same time, he had the most dialogue amongst the four vampire Lost Boys. The movie was filmed in Santa Cruz, CA. Santa Cruz in Spanish means "Holy Cross," which is an interesting connection given the vampire subject matter and their vulnerability to crucifixes. Max's dog Thorn is a white German Shepherd Kiefer Sutherland's father Donald Sutherland was in a vampire movie five years later: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992). Vampire tropes: no or diminished reflection, garlic, being invited in to one's home, "Lucy" the wife of Dracula, holy water. Even though Star is a half-vampire, we never see her in her vampire form. Paul is the only vampire in the group who shows overt emotions, since in the novel he is the last of the group to be turned and still has human traits as he undergoes his transition. The order that the vampire boys jump off the bridge is in the same order that they are killed. The reason why the head vampire Max passed the Frog Brothers vampire test is because Michael invited him in. Max very formally requests permission to enter the house. Initially, it seems like an obvious giveaway that he's a vampire, but then he passes all the Frog brothers' vampire detection tests, confusing the issue until it's revealed he passed because he was invited in. When the group eats Chinese food, David leaves his chopsticks sticking straight out of his and Michael's food. In Chinese and Japanese culture, it is offensive to give a meal with chopsticks sticking into it, because it is like wishing death upon the recipient. This shows that David has unprovoked animosity towards Michael and wants him (Michael) dead. Hence, as she later reveals, Michael was meant to be killed by Star as her first meal.
@brideofcthulhu3472 жыл бұрын
Funny enough Brooke Mccarter (Paul) actually worked a lot with Haim after Lost Boys too, even singing the opening to 1991's Fast Getaway that Haim starred in. They were really close, along with Brooke and Billy Wirth who would repeatedly go to horror con panels
@brideofcthulhu3474 жыл бұрын
I adore Lost Boys, i even write stories for the fandom. Honestly I cried at the news of Joel's passing. It was so tragic after Corey Haim was lost, and later Brooke Mccarter (who, fun fact, was originally casted for David but ended up being cast as Paul), it sucks that so much of the Lost Boys family has been truly lost. But their memories live on in this cult classic

I even saw it on a double date and we were cracking up laughing and then making fun of the last battle by using Pokémon terms like "Nanook used Tackle." "It's super effective!" Good times with this movie...sucks that the two sequels were terrible, only tolerable by Feldman's lines in the second one. "I went online, filled out a few forms, and clicked 'ordain me'." Also, the soundtrack is easily one of my favorites growing up. Even now when I hear "People are Strange" or "Have a Good Time (Tonight)" I instantly think Lost Boys.

What's tragic is Joel had written up a script for a prequel that would tell how the boys- David, Paul, Marko, Dwayne- were turned in 1906. Kiefer Sutherland, Brooke Mccarter, Billy Wirth, Jameson Newlander, Corey Feldman, and Edward Herrman were all willing to reprise their roles, the other writers were all for it! But unfortunately Warner Bros massively procrastinated until actors were too busy, Joel had other projects, and eventually they were far too old to play the boys. It is a major loss because the script may not be diamonds and gold, but it could've been something amazing.

"Anyone who doesn't like this is a terrorist of fun!" "Spoken like true Virgins." This is the BEST episode of Nostalgia Critic EVER! The last time I laughed even close to this much during a Nostalgia Critic episode was for the Mad Max Fury Road episode, which also happens to be my favorite film! The Lost Boys is my second favorite film! This review was nearly perfect! That tribute to Joel Schumacher was really sweet! Joel Schumacher will be missed! I did a photoshoot of my Paul cosplay from The Lost Boys the day before he died. It was weird talking about how great Joel Schumacher was and then hearing he had passed the next day. It would have been a perfect review, if it had mentioned Brooke McCarter and Billy Wirth a bit more who played Paul and Dwayne. They are among my favorite actors! Billy Wirth is such a humble sweetheart and Brooke McCarter was a great guy too. They happened to be best friends while Brooke was still alive. Brooke also was good friends with Corey Haim until the end as well. Corey Haim said his two best friends in life were Corey Feldman and Brooke McCarter. Brooke McCarter died a few years after Haim from a rare genetic disorder. Luckily, his daughter is only a carrier of the gene with one of the recessive genes, so she won't get it. Fun fact: Joel Schumacher said the Frog Brothers were his favorite characters he EVER created!

@TiggerIsMyCat4 жыл бұрын
@@MandleRoss I didn't get it until I watched it, but it's definitely the best adaptation of Peter Pan I've ever seen. I honestly consider it more a Peter Pan adaptation than a vampire movie. It didn't have much influence on the genre outside of aesthetics (but the aesthetics were really influential, they set the look for the entire 90s,) but it's mostly a Peter Pan adaptation. I love the adaptations that really lean into the "never growing up is bad because kids are horrible people" theme, and I love how this movie brought that theme home by using the vampire archetype, just really making it clear. I think it's mostly this movie, and Once Upon a Time that actually really emphasize those themes, and it's why they're the best. Also I think Word of God proves we're correct. I'm pretty sure there's an interview somewhere where they actually directly state that the film was meant to be an adaptation of Peter Pan
