although corn is arguably not scary at all, cornfields are kind of viscerally creepy, there are SO many stories about monsters living in cornfields. from growing up alone I remember he who walks among the rows, the edge of the woods and lots of others

A couple time, I've been trying to find a place I was going to buy livestock and had to drive down a narrow road just etched in between cornfields. At sunset. AND being so far out in the middle of nowhere, my GPS signal just vanished. At least my husband was along for the ride. Not terrifying but very unsettling!

@@ullenlaishram pardon my late response, I never got a notification for your reply. To answer your comment, yes indeed older than sex ASSUMING that one of the religions is right. I'm Christian, but ask any hindu, muslim, pantheonic, or any other religion, and by necessity they'll all tell you that God(s) have to come before man. Now even if 20,000 years of contemplation and logical reasoning as to the metaphysical aspects of the human origin have lead to a %100 fail that only now in our enlightened state we've managed to rectify (see the above comment for my opinion of that perspective), I'm pretty certain that the timeline for the first humping and belief in god(s) was pretty close. Since such afterglow enhancers like cigarettes, televisions and cars to drive away in weren't around yet, he very likely had to talk to his partner post porking, which means that he had no choice but to contemplate the abstract hypotheticals thrust upon his befuddled, post-coitis brain, like "where do YOU think we come from, honey?". @pallyboy6005 I would say certain branches of Christianity and Islam. Christianity almost moreso because conservatives constantly try to rewrite the entire country to fit their desires(you know, desite the founding fathers they constantly point to setting up the country to be a separation of church and state to avoid what England had become at the time). Christianity itself isn't really the issue, it's the people who act like they're christians when clearly knowing nothing about their religion and just use it to blindly spread hate. They ignore the love thy neighbor shit and pretend they know what's in the bible, cherrypick what they want regardless of how it's contradicted in later passages, or literally have just never read it. There's a reason I'm still christian but refuse to go to church lol Scientology should not be considered a religiob because it's literally just a cult designed to scam and abuse its members.

To be fair none of your complaints are in the short story. No psychic kid, the evil entity doesn't explode (he doesn't even appear in the book; he just controls the corn) and the protagonists die too (the girl gets captured by the kids, gets her eyes gouged and corn stuffed down her throat, and the man tries to find her in the field, does find her, but the field closes up and the evil entity kills him with the corn). Issac doesn't get possessed and the ginger guy (can't remember how to spell his, but it starts with an "M") doesn't commit heresy to the group. I don't remember exactly but I think that the evil entity persuades them all to listen to Issac with some sort of magical influence. So pretty much, the short story has none of the silliness of the movie, thus making for a scarier story.
@kadenconstantz13766 жыл бұрын
TheGrayGhost that sounds so much better
@TheEwqua6 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, the ginger kid (Malachi was his name, I guess?) doesn't commit heresy BUT he dies anyway because the demon (who speaks through Isaac) punishes the kids for not handling the situation well enough by lowering the acceptable age from 17 to 16. So everybody who's 17 has to die, including the ginger kid. I think it's even mentioned that he left behind his pregnant wife, who was like 14. Which imo adds a new level of creepy.

+Merson The Person Well lets see: 1. for Maine- err, wait this is Nebraska, scratch that, 1. for unexplained espers 2. for creepy children 3. for bashing Christian fundamentalists, and 4. for a hilariously bad CG-I monster ending. So 4 shots. Not as many as his other movies I suppose, but only because not much actually happened in this story.

+LordManda2 Don't forget 5. Trying to take something that isn't scary and making it scary (and failing miserably) and 6. Clairvoyant child (and a bonus drink because she was drawing pictures of future events with a record player in her room (I'm reminded of the little girl from Rose Red with the girl in this film.))
