I love Colombia but it’s a very simple piece of music, it’s just simple chords with simple vocals - and the chords are actually lifted from the ‘91 Italian dance track Axe Corner - Tortuga. It’s not like it’s one of Noel’s best songwriting achievements, it’s just a great atmospheric groove.

If these guys helped write the songs why is it, no disrespect to the Real People none of their songs are even a fraction as good as the songs they supposedly helped write? Secondly, why is it since then Noel has continued to write excellent songs, and these guys cannot write anything near as good. Real people are a decent band but it amazes me to watch this when looking at the evidence in both artists back catalogues. I can appreciate Noel didn't give them much credit for the help they offered but - part of me just feels these guys wanted more credit for what they claimed they did than they probably did in reality. I might be wrong. But if these guys can write songs as good as Definitely Maybe where are their own songs of that level? There are none.

Noel Gallagher is one of the best songwriters of all time so of course some of his songs are better than the real peoples. However I actually like the real people more than oasis at this point that's only my opinion though. The real people did have a massive influence on Noel Gallagher in regards to shaping songs, helping to use equipment and just general advice. Also nobody has claimed they wrote definitely maybe nor do they. They Co wrote Columbia, Noel lifted something for rocking chair and Stole the chorus from feel pain for don't go away. There are also some other times noel took things from the realies but they were after definitely maybe.

Liam and Chris Griffiths wrote it. Nothing crazy about it. He sang on Supersonic also and that's what shaped llams vocals. The real people's contribution is actually more pivotal than that they showed oasis how to use their 8 track and taught them. I had the live demo tape from it my brother bought a copy at the 1st ever titp at Strathclyde Park in 1994 off an Oasis roadie. Tapes are far from lost anyway. I will never forget hearing it as a wee guy. Anyway, some utter nonsense in here. The real people had a record deal since the 80s and not to any 2 Bob labels. They were in a music scene with would be legends. So these guys never met noel until 91 or 2 when he was a wee roadie with the inspirals, and noel somehow ripped this flagging jobbing band off? Griffiths said noel asked for help recording music and they helped noel with the process of recording and structuring his self written tunes. Yes there was some taking bits from others ideas that's standard. They got credited. But it's scraping the barrell to say much more. Noel may have lifted some things but how does one explain his ear for melodies and his authentic chorus aswell as liams vocals that conquered the world? The lost tracks. Grow up ffs.

If the Real People are such amazing songwriters and Noel nicked everything he knows from them, why haven't they had a single hit song, or even a vaguely well-known song, in their lives? Why didn't they have a career during the height of Britpop - when every two-bit guitar band had a deal and was in the top 20. Or if not that, why didn't they have a massively successful career writing songs for the other guitar bands. After all, they taught Noel everything he knows - right? It doesn't stack up.
@richardpress9551
@richardpress9551 3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with this. Just wrote something similar myself and then saw your post. I do feel sorry for the Real People in the sense that they obviously did give a lot of time and help to Oasis and had a lot to do with them getting signed (e.g. helping them get a demo tape together) but when you listen to the Real People's catalogue and Oasis's I totally am in agreement with you. The Real People are a decent band but Oasis are world beating. The body language of both of the Real People present in this video seems to suggest a tad of envy and jealousy, and that's understandable. The idea that they were helping to "write" the songs I think is probably laughable at best, coming up with a riff, or a fill or even a tiny part for a song that is already written - like many producers and mix engineers do when in a recording studio doesn't warrant not count for song writing credits. The song primarily is already written, it's to be expected that mix engineers and producers will suggest ideas etc but conceptually the songs are done. It's not unnatural or unheard of when people in studios know they are working with serious talent to want to say they had a "part" in writing something when really they didn't. Been there myself with songs when out of University when had a chance at stuff, band was getting radio play and the drummer at the time changed a few drum beats and considered that song writing credit. Ridiculous. Laughable stuff and lamentable at best. My hunch is that the Realies knew Oasis were going to be big and wanted to get in on or get credit for things they didn't really do and either Noel got onto it or McGhee gave him advice to just walk away from this. It's a difficult situation, obviously the Realies did a LOT to help Oasis and it's a good chance they wouldn't even be signed without the Real People. However, . . . . . . where are the songs? I've heard bits of real people songs that noel allegedly took but what he did take from the REal people he made better than what they had done themselves - e.g. Don't Go Away.
@ChainNonSmoker
@ChainNonSmoker 3 жыл бұрын
I think the 2 of you are missing the point, none of em says they taught EVERYTHING to Noel about songwriting but they're understandably sad cos they didn't get the decent amount of recognition they might've deserved for lending the hand. Plus obviously having no mention of Columbia songwriter credits, it's ridiculous they're all Noel's alone. Realies are probably first to admit Noel's brilliant songwriter and aren't taking anything away from it. Noel himself admits he wasn't THAT good before he wrote Live Forever so obviously he must've got some help (e.g. hints of songwriting techniques and the process, perhaps not actual lyrical lines or chord sequences) and on the way before finding his own talent beyond the other guys. He still could've mentioned his original mentors every now and then. They have a point u know.
@S3aChange
@S3aChange 3 жыл бұрын
@@ChainNonSmoker I agree with all of your points. However, It was 30 years ago. They're sitting in a room with Oasis posters on the wall, Oasis tapes, obsessing over mixes in a self-recorded video. They took a pay-off and got credits on a couple of songs, as I understand. Oasis fans know they played a role in helping them develop their sound and Noel didn't acknowledge their influence as much as they hoped he would, or help their career (although I doubt it was a secret in the music industry at the time). It's a tough world. People don't always do what you want them to. Noel made his decision - and the rest of the band rarely mentioned the Real People either at the time, it should be noted. Should Paul McCartney have spent the entire 70s thanking some random dude who taught him a couple of chords when he was 15, or helped them with a demo tape recording session, maybe even suggested a lyric as he was developing early songs? The Real People seem like nice guys, but its a broken record. And it seems people are just looking for any reason to pile on Noel Gallagher these days. The healthy thing for the Real People to do would be to move on, make peace with it, and maybe channel their talent into their own music.
@aaronmcneilly1084
@aaronmcneilly1084 3 жыл бұрын
To be fair to the real people they try to move away from oasis. It's only recently this hole thing resurfaced due to an influx of KZbin videos on this subject. They only keep talking about this because they never really were credited. Sure they got a payoff but they had to fight for it. As for their success they were very unlucky because they were on the Come up after their first album. This is backed by people like Noel Gallagher being a fan of theirs at that time. But couldn't release their second album when Sony was bought by Columbia meaning they were dropped and lost the rights. This was at a very important time for them. They released marshmallow Lane in 2012 but it was too late considering it was supposed to come out in 1992. Listen to what's on the outside it has some amazing songwriting. I would recommend at the end of the day, Going nowhere, fishes and all I know.
