The Lost Potential of Shantae’s Forgotten Villain

Well I already stated this in a reply but the thing with Holly is her and the chapter she's focused on was a stretch goal for this game's Kickstarter campaign. It's clear they had a story outlined before the campaign was launched which explains why Holly was a half-baked character.

Ah, Holly. Maybe the joke was she was supposed to be a "forgettable" roadblock in the game's plot. And I do quite like the second way of redeeming her that you mentioned, though a time travel plot would be interesting too. Building off of the 'rival' character development though, the way she is described as a memory, seems like if she could've convinced the majority of people about a false memory of her being a half genie when she never really was one and then manifested those powers based on that type of memory manipulation, she could've been a serious threat to Shantae and everybody around her. And her motivation? Well, maybe she secretly admires Shantae and her half genie status and wants to be like her, if not a better heroine, just to live out her ideal dream. But that's just one interpretation. Risky Revolution takes place in the past, but not that far back and I don't think we'll be seeing Holly in that game, but as a memory she'd still technically exist around that time, and seeing her there could be a pleasant surprise, but again I'm not holding my breath. As throwaway and dislikable as she was, I still like Holly as a potential rival for Shantae.

If they want to properly end her story, make a sidemode game where someone genuinely walks up to her and asks her the genuine truth of what she is and who she was. Genuinely interrogate the character that constantly hypes herself up by cutting back behind her layers of myth that she likes to spread until we get to the truth, which can be anything ranging from "she was who she claimed to be", to "she meant something to someone, but she wasn't a major hero", to "she wasn't anyone and her stories are so wildly inconsistent on purpose because she's not a memory, she's probably some kind of dream monster or demon that wants everyone to believe she was everything she claimed to be", but I think the genuine point here is to put her to rest and stop her from coming back all the time to hatch up a half-baked story to full-baked amuse us with her half-baked attempts to achieve her goals of being remembered. Or we could continue her story by getting her to become more of a central piece of future Shantae games.

@@pinkiemeowstic89 I mean, with how this character is framed, I guess so? Because Holly Lingerbean is a mysterious character we need a mystery solver to figure out her deal, especially since she can come back to harass Shantae whenever she apparently likes. So, I would imagine that after a few times, Shantae would get sick and tired of her constant harassment and want to nip her problems in the bud. If she has to Professor Laytoning an enemy to accomplish so, I can imagine Shantae would do it.

I'd be quite interested in seeing more with Holly. Rotty is my favorite character and she started as an extremely annoying mini game boss, but moved on to become a very good character.

I love this franchise's characters so much, I'd love expansion on any of the side/one-off characters! If you ask me, the best avenue for that would be some sort of animated series (I even have my own idea for VAs for those without proper ones in case the crew needs ideas).

I know that Holly has a lot more problems with her character than what I'm about to mention, but I REALLY wish they gave her more than one dialogue portrait. For a character appears as frequently as she does in the game, and with such a unique personality for the series, it makes me sad that we kind of just see her show the same static emotion throughout the whole game.

While we may have forgot about her, we see that anyone remembering her can make her come back. Thanks a lot, Bolo… but yeah, that one detail is a reason for her to return as a gag character in future Shantae games. “Hm, that plant looks like something… I’m reminded of someone… Oh yeah, that Holly chick!” *poof* “HAHAAA! TIME TO CONQUER THE EARTH!”

Whelp. I’m sure they were going to further explore her character if they were setting something up for her in future entries. :p I won’t be opposed if we see her return in a larger scale. I mean I’m curious enough. Nice video for giving this character some attention. I’m a pretty big Shantae fan too.

Yeah it would be awesome if she return in a future game trying to redeem herself and along the way becomes a Genie or gain a Djinn transformation it would be awesome to have another Genie to play as other than shantae,or the can go the route of Holly becoming a different kind of magical being trying to become a heroine in her own right and teaming up with the titular half genie hero and then making amends in the end She could be another Foil to Shantae aside from Risky Boots being on the Heroic Side

Holly Lingerbean seems more like Mephiles the Dark. Mephiles just wanted to be put back into the timeline, but Shadow put a stop to him, making Mephiles forgotten for good.

I actually quite enjoyed Holly but one thing I thought about her spooked me a little. She's immortal. So long as someone thinks about her she can come back, but it's rather sad cause she disappears if people forget about her. Also her powers increase as more people think about her, so theoretically she could become just as, if not more, powerful than the genies...buuut her ego stops that from happening XD Would be nice to see her return. I'd love to see Shantae and her make amends since the dlcs showed she could be pretty chill, maybe in a heart to heart moment ^-^ I choose to believe Holly's boasting since it would explain her planet sized ego, but could also open the door for her to be a helpful ally to shantae with her skills and knowledge.

Honestly: 1) After I play this game, I did forgot about her from time to time And 2) she literally is Morbucks from PowerPuff Girls. Her hair, her personality, yeah she is Morbucks if she was in Shantae. I am honestly okay she is gone. I do understand some people wish she had more development and now watching this video, she could be just an ego maniac, yeah i wasnt too smart when i first play half genie hero. But other than that, I just don't care for her

There is something about Holly that makes NO F*CKING SENSE if she isn't a half-genie. Her ears! It's confirmed in Seven Sirens that those Elf-like ears are a signature half-genie feature, so if Holly isn't a half-genie, how did she get them?

I'm going to guess it was a design oversight, since she was created as a "rival genie". But it's not outside the realm of possibility that there could be other poiny-eared creatures, especially since she's from the past.
