Do you realise how fucking nasty they made the smurfs, the chipmunks, yogi bear, scooby doo, garfield, etc. look? They've been at it for years making bank and it's always an eldritch nightmare, even after sonic there was clifford and that fuckass crocodile movie. Big business and general audiences alike don't understand visual appeal for the most part, that's how it keeps happening, they probably realised late in production the people who like sonic tend to be a bit more on the "artistic" side and they were trying to appeal to the wrong audience.

From what I can tell, the differences of the Ugly Sonic design and his beta design are that he is a darker shade of blue, his head seems to be slightly smaller, he has slightly larger eyes that are not as beady as Ugly Sonic, and it seems he has more noticeable eyebrows similar to his current movie design, and it seems like his eyes where more green and less of the weird more bluish/turquoisish eyes that Ugly Sonic has. It also seems like his arm and leg proportions were different as well, as they appear to be shorter in length, (mainly referencing the Chris Pratt image for his limb proportions) and a little less human like, either that or his body better matched the humanoid proportions. Edit: It also seems like his hands were not just randomly white coloured either but we don’t seem them so it’s hard to tell.

When I first saw the trailer of this design, i got excited. I thought because of the realism they were gonna take a more serious approach in the movie even especially with the mentioned creators of fast and furious was involved. I could not been more wrong. I can remember seeing a clip of the first cinemacon teaser of sonic however I can't remember much because it was about 6 years ago now and I can only remember one bit of it of sonic running up towards the screen and then the camera going with him like as seen in the screenshot and yes I do remember him saying "wahoo" as he was running it was very similar to the old sonic trailer we got but it was just a different sonic design but that was all, I didn't expect it to be known as lost media now, I thought I was just making up fake memories but now that I've seen that screenshot I know that it wasn't false

I absolutely adore this Sonic design; it's uncanny in the best possible way. I'm genuinely intrigued by the idea of revisiting the original movie with the initial Sonic design, almost like unearthing a piece of lost media. I remember when I was younger, I saw an early Sonic Movie trailer of Sonic running through a forest. His design looked more like he did in the actual games with a tad bit of realism to it. I couldn't find any traces of it on the internet so I'm not sure if it was real or not. I do know the release date at the end of the trailer only said "2019," and Eggman was seen in the trailer, but it definitely was one of the earlier memories I had.

Sometimes I think of the alternate universe where this design was still used. Think about it: we know the movie was good. It would have come out, gotten good reviews, and Sega - in their ineptitude - would have seen the reaction and said "Gee, let's make Sonic ALWAYS look like this!" Sonic Mania? Creepy skinny Sonic. Sonic Frontiers? Creepy skinny Sonic. Sonic in the Olympic Games? Creepy skinny Sonic.

The sonic from the old trailer had proportions that looked like the old man stone person from Jojolion. Like, the proportions were SO weird.
