The Lost Trail - Part 1: Finding the Beginning...

Two years ago, me and the bois attempted ‘The Lost Trail’ an overgrown old track up through the native bush surrounding everyone’s favourite holiday destination, Dirt Bike Paradise! It was an epic, hard enduro-style mission, but eventually we lost the trail in a patch of Gorse and had to turn back. Since then, farmer Dave’s put a road in to trap possums and upon what I’d hoped would be my ‘epic return’ … all I found was a comparative highway, that took about five minutes to complete. That was when he told me of another trail… one older and therefore even more overgrown, that in its day was longer, steeper, gnarlier and crossed over multiple streams! I knew immediately, that we had to give it a crack. What I didn’t reckon upon however, was… tricycles?

I left NZ in 2005. I had totally forgotten about GORSE!!! We have Chinee / Chonkey apple bush where I live and ride in Aus. I rate it as close to Gorse for its ability to inflict immediate pain and ongoing pain days later when you pull out the splinters!

If you really know how to ride them In the tight woods is one place a trike always beats a quad. There light like a bike at slow speeds there far better for cutting between trees and riding narrow trails. I ride em all trikes quads and dirt bikes but they all have there place for fun and utility.
