Welcome to my first time watching as we react to The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). Diving back into the world of dinosaurs there are a lot of elements to enjoy in this film, a lot of exciting sequences, suspense and of course jaw-dropping visual effects.
In "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," we follow Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) as he returns to a new island filled with dinosaurs. This time, he's not alone! With a team of adventurers, including Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn, they face off against prehistoric predators and corporate greed.
There was an improvement in the practical effects department which was already impressive and as close to perfection as you could get at the time. Any time we had a physical dinosaur on screen we were instantly overwhelmed with the same sense of awe. The effects in this one still hold up and somehow this film looks even better from a cinematography point of view.
We hope that you enjoy our reactions, commentary and review as we discuss the film's groundbreaking special effects, suspenseful storyline, and unforgettable characters. From the heart-pounding scenes of having two T. rex attack an RV simultaneously to seeing the velociraptor's agility as they coordinate an attack this movie, although not as incredibly good as the first one was, is a phenomenal time.

and the crazy thing is that he didn't need to do that. The female rex had its foot on the hood of the Mercedes which prevented it from going anywhere so eddie could have repositioned himself to allow himself to free the rifle a bit better and perhaps shoot the male to scare the female away. Now he probably couldn't have saved the trailers with a dead t rex blocking his path but he could have kept them up long enough to allow everyone to ascend and then he could jump out of the destroyed SUV.

There’s one scene in this movie that never fails to send chills down my spine. When Ian, Eddie, Kelly are up in the High Hide. And suddenly from the darkness you hear the trumpeting roar of the Tyrannosaur. Just the look on Ian’s face says it all. He’s terrified. But still remains calm for his daughter and Eddie.

This film is John Hammond's (Richard Attenborough) last acting appearance in the series. He appeared as painting on walls a couple times since. He had intended to be in the fourth film but fell in his home in 2008 and retired from acting. He passed away in 2014, one year before the release of Jurassic World. I definitely wouldn't say I hate this movie (or any of the others in this franchise), but I admit it would be at the bottom of my personal ranking of these films, more for what are probably nit-picks than serious drawbacks, although I would say the 'biggest' of them probably stem from the fact that I greatly prefer Dr Grant over Dr Malcom, so that's this movie's biggest detractor to me, which isn't really that big

I find the extra baggage they added to make the story work a bit pushy, but luckily it passes and is mostly forgotten once the film takes off. Malcolm would NEVER have signed such documents and with that example we can see where the story diverges from the first poorly. That was a choice which didn't help this otherwise decent addition to the franchise.

I don't think people hate this movie because it's not a good movie. I think they hate it because while Jurassic Park at least had like a 65% connection to the actual Jurassic Park story after Koepp touched the script Crichton wrote, Lost World has like a 5% connection to the book it's "based on" and a .5% connection to the first book and maybe a 30% connection to the first movie. Simply put, almost everything about this movie is wrong when compared to the book and the first movie.

and originally they were pissed that the grass left trails because for every take of the scene they had to go to different places in the field they grew and crane the raptors to the spot so it would be fresh without trails to cover up. they wanted the grass to spring right back up. which when you think about it makes sense since if they left trails like that then most of the grass would be trampled if real dinosaurs lived in it.

@@GenericStatue I don't know what that has to do with what I was saying though. The Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies mix and match scenes from the two books. You can find them all throughout. It will sometimes be different people or different dinosaurs, but what happens is almost identical. Do you remember the raptors chasing someone on the roof and her having to jump down or the T-Rex and the waterfall from the first book? The beginning of this is the first book's beginning.

He was even humble saying its okay if the animal gets away. (Sets up how he felt when RJ died) also during the rex camp scene mofo was in like no cover and he stood up let the rex see him and backed away slowly. So you know his hunting expeditions weren't like heavily obscured. Aside from the tree on the island but it was just like a tarp? And that tree had like no leafs just a lot of branches. Its because of this deleted scene that i actually have a head canon revolving around Roland and Muldoon from the first movie. Roland shows that hes got a sense of 'honour' in him, and Muldoon was Hammonds game warden in Kenya, while Roland is a big game hunter and though not 'specifically' said, i think he would operate around that area, so i would imagine theyve have a few run ins on occasion. Hes been effectively retired from hunting when we meet him in this scene, and i think its because after Malcolm went public about what happened on the island, Roland heard that Muldoon was one of the deaths and out of respect for him, stopped hunting. Until hearing he has the opportunity to hunt one of the biggest game of all, a T.Rex, that he agrees to come along. Seeing that Ajay, his friend, died on this second island after getting involved with dinosaurs, he quits for good.

Fun Fact. Steven Spielberg always wanted to make a King Kong movie. He said the King Kong movie from the 70's was so good in his perspective, he wanted to incorporate some of it in Jurassic Park. For example the Giant Wooden Gate and Ian's comemntary to expect King Kong, but also the choice of giant animatronic T-Rex because the giant animatronic King Kong was mind blowing to him. (src. Making-Of Jurassic Park) With The Lost World he had some snippits of the orig. Dino Park story that he could use to drive his movie, making it his own King Kong narrative. It's almost 1 to 1 the same story and it's on purpose. Calling it "The Lost World" was actually more of a decoy, expecting the narrative being the one of the same novel, wich it wasn't.

List of deleted scenes that were filmed, scripted, or storyboarded: An alternate opening had Japanese fisherman haul in a large net containing the carcass of a dead Parasaurolophus, and after being frightened by the beast, the cut the net loose, where it falls in the water, setting up the events of the film. A scene involving Ludlow getting drunk and falling on the baby Rex and accidentally breaking its leg was filmed but cut due to pacing issues. Roland and Ajay find more dinosaur footprints and corpses of other animals, leading all the way to work Rex nest. A scene has Malcolm asking Sarah's hand in marriage when all of them head back to the mainland. This happens before Roland returns to the campsite. Ajay was going to fight off a raptor with his large hunting knife in the tall grass sequence, but it was cut for pacing issues. His screams can be heard in the background. A lot of endings were storyboarded but never filmed: Malcolm and the others make it to the worker camp, and see a helicopter in the distance, until a Pteranodon attacks the helicopter, until Malcolm kills the pterosaur with a flare gun. Another alternative ending had Malcolm and the others jump off a cliff to escape the raptors, where the dinosaurs die after jumping off the cliff. Luckily, they had backpacks with hand gliders inside them. They get attacked by Pteranodons and that Roland was going to die a hero's death as he save Sarah from the pterosaurs. They fly back to the mainland.

Was it ever explained how the crew of the boat got massacred? Wasn't it just the Rex they were transporting?
@shainewhite2781
@shainewhite2781 3 ай бұрын
@@Arashi257 There have been rumors that the crew of The Venture were killed by a pack of raptors off screen as the raptors snuck aboard the ship in the cargo hold, and when the Rex heard the ruckus, he woke up and the tore the place apart, killing some of the crew members. It's possible that the Rex ate some of raptors, which explains why there's no evidence of their existence.

the marriage scene is either incorrect of an alternative to another deleted scene in which ian talks to kelly about marrying sarah before she enters the tent to go to sleep. also there was another ending (or at least a continuation of one of the other endings) for ludlow/roland. Ludlow and roland were supposed to come upon the rex (roland to hunt it and ludlow for his own reasons similar to the finished film of having the baby rex). ludlow panics and gets killed while roland doesn't get his prize at all but does survive after rescuing ian and kelly from the pteranodons.

the raptor rumor came from a post on the movies IMDB trivia page that was posted many years ago. but there is no proof such a scene ever existed. its not in any version of the script (which you can read online), nor in any of BTS of the film. assuming it wasn't made up whole-cloth its likely a misinterpretation of a scene from the first book that was cut for the movie. in the original first book one of the reasons grant and the kids are rushing to get back is because the kid spot the boat leaving the dock and see raptors climbing aboard. So they try to get back to tell the boat to turn around. in the movie its supposed to be that the rex escaped and killed everyone, except for one guy that lived just long enough to die holding the button to close the cargo bay doors. its presumed the hand in the wheelhouse was a guy getting grabbed before he could get all the way in, managed to grab the wheel but was yanked out so hard his hand was ripped off.

@@RaptorNX01 it was a reference to well-known concept art of a raptor in a flooded hallway staring down a human with a flashlight. it was assumed to be the boat and not say the worker's village ( which occurred in a storm in the concept art). you can glimpse it in a full page spread in the making of book or I suppose online.

As a fan of these movies I am obligated by law to mention that originally a scene was cut where the baby rex's leg was broken. Originally Roland brought it back to the camp muzzled, then Ludlow came out of the tent drunk and fell on the rex's leg breaking it. Roland grabbed him by his collar and threw him away and stole his bottle of booze. Thats why in the scene with the baby tied down you can see a little bowl and a bottle right next to the rex to help it deal with the pain. Its also why Ludlow is acting drunk after the trailer goes off the cliff and he grabs a flask. Then at the end of the movie why the Papa Rex chomps down on Ludlow's leg and throws him to the baby. Screen writing 101

I do appreciate how The Lost World tries to be closer in tone to the books. The compy attack is very similar to what happens to Hammond in the first book. One fun fact the movies never bring up is that compys are actually venomous, and their bites cause a very mild narcotic effect that disorients and numbs their vicitms.

I loved the way Spielberg chose to write Roland. He could have went for a stereotypical hunter villain, but he chose to write him as more nuanced than that. In one of the deleted scenes he reveals he only likes the hunt when its him and what he is after. He doesn't hunt animals that can't fight back and explains to Ajay he became disillusioned with hunting when he was taking "rich dentists" out for safari hunts. Saying they were no better than a firing squad. Its why hunting the Buck T. Rex is so personal to him. Its the chase of the feeling he used to have. But when Ajay is killed you can see the chase is gone from his eyes, despite succeeding. "I've spent too long in the company of death".

The replayability with them is insane. 😊 Dr. Ian Malcolm deserves to take his rightful place as THE protagonist. Loved Julianne Moore's performance as Dr. Sarah Harding. 21:42 In a deleted scene, the reason why the baby T-Rex has a broken leg 🦵 😢 and is wailing out in pain is because John Hammond's dirt bag of a nephew (Peter Ludlow) 😠😡 while drunk, kicked/stomped on the poor thing's leg 🥺😣😔! It certainly explains why the baby T-Rex was hissing and growling at him (Peter Ludlow) on the boat 🚢, and the father T-Rex most likely put two and two together that he was the cause of all the emotional and physical pain that their family had to endure for the past few days 🤔🙄😒🤨. Before Ludlow can escape from the cargo hold, he bites down onto his leg enough to make him bleed and likely have broken bones 🦴, in a whole lot of pain not too proud to beg for mercy 😏. And the baby T-Rex is given the honor of finishing off the little weasel, as the father T-Rex watches proudly at his little boy 🤗😉👍😌.

It's always fun seeing people react to the JP franchise! TLW in particular is my favorite of them all. I just want to add some fun context to some scenes that we only get to see on photos taken from set or script notes. 1- Baby rex's broken leg was actually caused by a drunken Ludlow, which you can see him carrying around a liqor flask, who stumbled and fell on top of the baby´s leg while having a conversation with Roland. This makes the last scene of the baby getting revenge on Ludlow even better. 2- The flying car landing close to Lando & Ajay was caused by Nick's sabotage mission. Before we see Nick & Sarah cutting the dinos free, we can see Nick cutting gas lines of many vehicles causing a pool of gasoline. When Dinos stormed the camp and fire started that is why we can see explosions start to happen, sending a vehicle on fire up in the air. 3- Dieter's death. Throughout his escaping Compys sequence you can see him get progressively erratic & exhausted. It turns out, in the books, Compys have a sedative saliva that causes numbing of the body. Dieter gets bitten multiple times in multiple ocassions, so by the time Dieter tries to climb that log he was barelyu capable of moving so he was an easy meal for the compys.

Also, if you guys notice the continuity in that scene, Ian immediately puts his JP1 experience to use by turning off the light so the parents don’t see them. The Buck T-Rex is tied with Rexy as my favorite T-Rex in the franchise. Here’s some scary facts about T-Rex: - they have a powerful sense of sight and they could spot you from 3-4 miles out like a bird of prey - they have a bite force of 12,800 lbs. (6.8 tons) and is the most powerful bite of any land animal - they had padding on their feet like elephants and tigers that allow them to sneak up on their prey even though they’re huge - they’re the largest predatory dinosaur ever (weight wise)

Just make sure you don't listen to the CD while driving. XD One scene I wished they kept in the film was when the baby rex was captured. The reason why the infant was wailing from its leg being broken was because Peter Ludlow (John Hammond's nephew aka "pretentious prick") was drunk and tripped over the infant's leg and, I believe, fell on it. Roland Tempo (Pete Postlethwaite) then gets ticked off because of it. The film as it stands makes the audience assume Roland or Ajay broke the infant's leg.

JP1 is ground breaking. JP2 was brilliant - and there's an official follow up outside the movies - Trespasser, the video game from 1998. It was an unmitigated disaster but was also a groundbreaking game, made by Dreamworks (with a little help from Spielberg) Y'all should totally take a peek at a let's play or longplay of it. Unfortunately, it needed a lot more time in dev and the publisher (good old EA) wanted it out the door asap. It just happened to coincide with the release of a little game called 'Half Life'.... It has narration by Richard Attenborough recorded specifically for the game.

Jurassic World is plain awful. Awful movie making. That openingscene with the cgi bird? Come on. 🤢

I really don't like World because every single character is unlikable. One of the reasons Park works is that it gets you invested in almost everyone. And in the middle the whole movie stops in its tracks for five minutes to just divulge in nostalgia for Park, and I dislike desperate fan pandering. I didn't even watch JP3 because it seemed to be more of the same, so I might be a bit harsh. But World was a major disappointment, since I actually thought the premise was interesting.

I love the progression of the raptors over the series. 1st one is a movie monster. 2nd is hunting predators. And it evolves from here.

That trailer sequence is a masterwork within this movie. Classic Spielberg moment.
