Yea really abnormally low scoring games are usually weather related. Last season bills pats at bills obviously, had a super windy game where a punt only went like 15 yards and Bill belichick nearly broke a record for fewest passing attempts by only throwing one in the first half however they threw 2 in the second half and still somehow won the game from practically pure rushing

What I remember most about this game is before saying “this is not a chip shot” one of the announcers were saying “the Steelers don’t want to leave to much time on the clock for the dolphins” and preceded to break out laughing from the absurdity of it.

@@dc7236 Yes, we lost by a safety, lol. The weather got extremely cold and it actually started snowing, and this was after a cold front blew in on an otherwise decent weather day so many of us weren’t really prepared. Moving the ball ended up being pretty tough, needless to say. After a long scoreless game and a really good punt in triple OT, we were set up with terrible field position and our QB got sacked in the end zone. By that point, I don’t think any of us cared anymore, we all just wanted to get someplace warm indoors. I just had a T-shirt under my pads & jersey, same as a lot of the other kids that night, that cold front was a shocker

Fun fact: the lowest score possible in a regular NFL game while still producing a winner is: 2-0. There have been only 5 games in which a team won 2-0, none of which have happened since 1938. Quite obviously, a team can score a safety and gift their opponent the win. *NOTE* - These games happened before the AFL-NFL merger so I guess by a slight technicality the 2-0 is not an official NFL scoreline. Also a fun fact: it’s possible to score 1 point on a 2pt conversion. If a safety happens on a PAT or 2-pt conversion, it’s scored for 1 point. Would be awesome if that obscure rule could somehow cause a game to end 1-0 but alas there is no possibility for that.

you are correct that a safety can be scored on an extra point attempt, but it would only result in a score of 7-0. You are also correct that a score cannot be 1-0. HOWEVER, there is a HIGHLY unlikely chance of a score being 6-1 ! ! !

I remember this game, ironically enough almost exactly 2 seasons prior, during my Senior year in high school, we where scheduled to have homecoming! But late on the Friday night 1 week before our game it started to rain & in the words of the late, great Andy Griffith, “It wasn’t no ordinary rain, it was a frog strangler!” It literally didn’t stop raining until a few hours before the homecoming game the next week!!! So in our school we refer to the specific game as the “mud bowl!” It had gotten so muddy that @ halftime all of us starters where told change in to dry game pants. Jesus, i actually played in a game like this, but possibly worse conditions. It was a 65 degree October day and had rained the entire night before up until about 2 hrs before kickoff. A fast-moving cold front moved in. The rain turned to sleet, then snow, as a 40 degree temperature swing began. So since we were younger and the conditions were so bad, the only gameplan our OC had was for me to just audible to a QB sneak and take the 2-4 yds every time the defense lined up with a gap over my center. These fuckers only lined up without a nose tackle maybe 10 times in the entire game. So i just QB Sneaked over and over and over again, falling into snow dusted mud puddles. The difference in the game was an out route I was able to complete to my tight end who was filling in as fullback, because our normal one was taken inside with concerns of frostbite. When I got in the locker room and started removing my uniform, everything. EVERYTHING was brown and water-logged. I had one half-dollar sized clean spot on the cut-off t-shirt I wore under my shoulder pads. Everything else was mud brown. A photo taken of me in that state still gets me. I have the dead l, glassy stare of someone with shell-shock

One of the important things in the setup for this, was the field had a college football game and 4 high school games (Western Pennsylvania finals) on the weekend. Is was rainy, and the field was tore up in those games. There were comments about the field before the game, and they decided to resod the field for the game. It steadily rained, and the sod didn't stick.

Beck was dreadful. That was the 1-15 Cam Cameron season where the Phins’ only victory that season was against the Ravens (who were also terrible that year, but not as bad as the Phins). A rare year that the Ravens were awful (2007). The game between the Ravens and Phins went down to the wire (if I remember correctly) and when the whistle blew to end the game, the Phins looked up at the scoreboard and couldn’t believe they’d won a game. The Phins’ players rejoiced on the field like they just won the Super Bowl!! As a lifelong Dolphins’ fan, it was pathetic, yet heartwarming in a strange way. I think I almost felt my eyes start to well up.

What about the other lowest scoring game between the Dolphins and Patriots on 12 Dec 82? The Snow Plow game which the Pats won 3-0 in a snow storm after the field keeper came out and plowed snow away to allow them to kick the winning field goal. That game was terrible to watch. I also remember the Jets beating the Redskins 3-0 in 1993 at RFK Stadium. I guess if we’re taking most recent, then this was it before the Raiders-Vikings game. Not being critical. Those early 2000s Dolphin defenses were no joke. Sucks the NFL made an example of Ricky Williams in regards to marijuana. He would have been a hall of famer. The Dolphins entire plan was basically 'play elite defense and feed Ricky Williams.' Ricky Williams was suspended, and that pretty much derailed the entire franchise. Crazily enough, they ended up getting Ronnie Brown, who was also a good RB. Fun fact, the 'mud bowl' game was one of Ricky William's first games back in the NFL. A Steeler's player purposely stepped on him one play, which hurt him, so he didn't play the rest of the season
