So the more I worked on this video the more pissed I got that Disney tried to make a bunch of white people seem like a marginalized community in the present day instead of actually turning their attention towards racism. With that being said, I'm linking a nonprofit that I love here that's actually doing great work to promote social justice. hateisavirus.org/ Hate is a Virus is an organization that is raising awareness and funds to support Asian communities and businesses and combat the rise in hate crimes being directed towards AAPI due to the pandemic. If you are able to, I encourage you to donate or purchase some of their merch but if you can't I ask you to sign up for their news letter to stay informed on how you can help AAPI in your community. If you know of any other resources on this topic feel free to let me know and don't forget to rep your favorite Asian owned businesses in the thread down below. Thanks!

America's history with immigration is a rocky. While the Irish did very much face some discrimination(especially the KKK but they hate almost anybody who isn't a White Anglosaxton, but that's beside the point) but they were far from the most marginalized group during that time. Its actually something that's an interesting and depressing point in interesting. An American Tail is a film that does it in a fashion that well done that I didn't even notice what it was all about as kid.

@@shelbymckinney8888 Exactly! Which is why the whole movie trying to make them seem marginalized in the present tense...it's not a good take disney channel.
@shelbymckinney88883 жыл бұрын
@@AveryTalksAboutStuff I think what the writers should have done is put more enthasis on the Irish lore rather than the discrimination aspect. Like mention the Leprechaun stuff earlier in the movie and have that be the main driving point as to why the family had to hide there Irish heritage and it would have been a little better. Also is it me or did the last half of the 3rd act just turn into Space Jam.

i remember watching this as a kid and it was so weird. it's like they wanted it to be Irish but there weren't a lot of actual Irish things in it. the whole thing was so weird. things that could've been in the film that weren't: - Irish stew - Irish Gaelic - IRELAND - Irish people from Ireland - what the face on that coin was from - why the dad doesn't seem to know his own heritage - what Bonnie's heritage is since she wants to get all up in Kyle's face about it - why would they give a teenager a special coin instead of just leaving it in the house where it's safe - what the hell is leprechaun magic

I grew up watching the Disney Channel original movies and the few that I enjoyed was the Thirteenth Year the Luck of the Irish and the Phantom of the Megaplex and I actually enjoyed more this movie even though nowadays it has a lot of cultural stereotypes by the time it was a fun movie with Irish culture and stuff and even though it looked weird the scene when the mom was making Irish food was so delicious I wish I could try them also I had no idea until now but the guy who plays Sheamus was Robbie Rotten from LazyTown may he rest in peace
