I have really loved this movie as a child, it's so nostalgic for me to see it again, the only thing apart from the set design and costumes which i have really enjoyed was the story about Elizabeth and Master Gracey, i wish they would have focused a bit more on their story.

I loved this movie as a kid, I love this movie as an adult. It’s a good, whimsical, and yet scary time. The themes are incredibly interesting and perfect for kids and adults because as a kid you understand everything that’s going on but as an adult you understand that unspoken themes and messages that kids just don’t get. An example Ramsley didn’t want Edward to marry Elizabeth kids and adults understand that but as an adult you know Ramsley doesn’t want Edward to marry a mixed race woman.

What I never understood is how Ramsley was able to control ghosts? Also the fact that heaven and hell are included in the movie for no reason when that isnt ever mentioned in the ride? Not only does that add a WAY different feel, but it also derails the end of the movie into complete random nonsense (like why hell even opened in the first place?) Not to mention why the ghosts in the graveyard who presumably died 100s of years before the curse are trapped as well? Overall I'd agree that this movie does get a bad rep, as it has a lot of enjoyable aspects to it. Also external sources pretty much confirm that Elizabeth was a "servant" and Ramsley didnt approve of their love.

I've always thought that, Ramsey killing Elizabeth was about how happy Master Gracey was with her. Maybe he hated the fact that they were in love and happy, is what triggered him to kill her. Throughout the whole movie it seemed like his character pretty much was in total control of every ghost in the mansion, him killing her, in turn Gracey killed himself, which put a curse on the mansion, which gave him total control of the ghosts.

The Haunted Mansion (2003): I did not care much for the plot nor the casting. Loved the special effects, set pieces, costuming, and production design (I would pay to have the mausoleum installed in my backyard if I had the money). I would rate it as a D+/C- at best. In defense of the screenwriter, the story of the attraction itself and how it came to be is very disjointed and schizophrenic. Disney always strove to “tell a story” in his attractions. There were two camps of thought when it came to the ride’s development: the scary camp which included Ken Anderson, Rolly Crump, and Claude Coates; and the whimsical camp with Marc Davis and Xavier Atencio. Many storylines were developed for the Mansion but there was never a clear frontrunner. Because of this “all over the map” quality of the Mansion’s backstory and whether to make it scary vs. funny, one ends up with an attraction with an inconsistent vibe. Given that, it’s no wonder the screenwriter had problems distilling it all down into a cohesive story. The next attempt at tackling this iconic attraction will open in theaters in July 2023. While Guillermo del Toro was supposed to lead this new production, his involvement has been minimal. Perhaps since there are so many stories behind the Mansion they need to take an “Everything Everywhere All At Once” approach and develop ALL of the original storylines and weave them together into a Haunted Mansion Multiverse...

@JohnMcKinney-c3pАй бұрын
I liked this movie as a kid but not now. The biggest issue I have is that the movie is very tonally inconsistent. It can't decide whether it wants to be funny or serious. Nothing against Eddie Murphy but he was very miscast in the role. The Haunted Mansion movie we should have gotten instead. Instead of being released in 2003 it would have been released in October of 1999. The movie would be rated PG-13 for Intense Violence, Language, Frightening Images, And Mild Suggestive Material (Unlike Pirates of The Carribbean it actually earns the PG-13 and takes advantage of it). Directed By Tim Burton. Produced By Denise Di Novi And Henry Sellick. Screenplay By Andrew Kevin Walker, Michael McDowell, Sam Hamm And Caroline Thompson. Music By Danny Elfman. Production Design By Rick Heinrichs. Based On The Haunted Mansion And Phantom Manor At Disney Theme Parks (It's based on both the California and Florida versions of The Haunted Mansion and Phantom Manor (Which is Disneyland Paris's version of The Haunted Mansion which is darker and more gothic:kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3OtfYKijdhqhLc)) The Cast: Heroes: Sam Neil as Detective Jim Evans - The film's main protagonist. Pam Grier as Detective Sarah Evans - Jim's wife. Johnny Depp as Master Edward Gracey (A more serious Johnny Depp performance similar to Nick of Time or Sleepy Hollow). Minnie Driver as Melanie Henshaw (Edward Gracey's fiancé. It's changed to Melanie Henshaw instead of Melanie Ravenswood to avoid incestuous undertones). Michelle Pfeiffer as Madame Leota. Michael Keaton as The Hatbox Ghost. Catherine O'Hara Cecilia Cornel (Caretaker). Michael Gough as Quincy Moriarty (Caretaker). Terence Stamp as Abraham Van Chester (Cartaker) (I originally wasn't going to cast given that he was in the 2003 film, but he worked with Tim Burton in Big Eyes and Ms. Peregryms Pecular Childeren so which is why I casted him and he's playing a completely differrent character). Miranda Richardson as Emma Morris (Careatker). Jeremy Irons as William Harker (Caretaker). Clancy Brown as Andrew Curry (Caretaker). Jack Nicholson as Ezra (Hitchiking Ghost). Danny DeVito as Phineas (Hitchiking Ghost). Christopher Walken as Gus (Hitchiking Ghost). Jeffrey Combs as The Groundskepper. Brett Cullen as Chief George Hastings (Minor character). Villains: Richard E. Grant as Henry Ravenswood/The Phantom - The film's main antagonist. Sadie Frost as Constance Hatchaway - The secondary antagonist along with Pastor Victor Thorn (Edward Gracey's former fiancé). Christopher Lee as Pastor Victor Thorn - The secondary antagonist along with Constance Hatchaway.

According to the lore, the Evers family shouldn't have to worry about property taxes (21:08). Disney actually has an entire backstory of the structure itself and surrounding real estate (dating back to when the Disneyland ride first opened). Part of it reveals that when the original owner bought the sprawling lands and built the mansion, he gifted the construction of a huge, new courthouse to the County and, in exchange, property taxes on his real estate were waived in perpetuity. This concept actually exists in Law (although you never truly see it in real life); it's called allodial title. Additionally, the owner specified a restriction in the real estate deed that requires presentation of the original document for a transfer of title ("ownership"). Subsequently, the original owner mysteriously disappeared one day and nobody has ever discovered where the deed is stashed. The entangled, clouded title (who actually owns it?) arising from the deed and lack of government ability to foreclose for nonpayment of taxes are the main reasons why the property sits abandoned, in stasis essentially. The scenario's realism (or lack thereof) can be debated but I always thought it was so cool that the imagineers thought all this out. Incidentally, the backstory gives the reason for the big cemetery right next to the mansion too. Among his other enterprises, the mansion's original owner was a smuggler (one of the sources of his immense wealth). The cemetery would be empty of the living at night, non-smuggling-related people wouldn't be inclined to hang around a giant burial ground, and it stretched down to the banks of the bayou, which was used to transport the illicit goods to and from the property.

I think the hate that this movie gets, while understandable is a bit too much. I don’t think it’s the best film adaptation of a Disneyland ride (that’s still obviously Pirates of the Caribbean) but it’s definitely not the worst (that honor belongs to the Country Bears movie). She was in the movie Rear Window with James Steward. She of course is famous for giving up her acting career to marry a real life prince. I mean... 5:59 - The residents are a laugh riot, and they're also spiders, or...? 6:00 - Oh. 6:10 - Didn't your mother ever tell you that it's rude to automatically assume what one is, until at least giving them the opportunity to introduce themselves first? :P 6:24 - I WISH TO ACQUIRE A CANDLEABRA THAT ALSO DOUBLES AS A FRIDGE MAGNET, PLS. 8:30 - Mmm. Alcohol. 8:33 - What gave you that impression? 8:52 - Clearly, she's scampering. Disappearing looks different. 9:30 - WHOM HAS PHONES THAT RING IF YOU'RE CALLING FROM *WITHIN* THE HOUSE?! 10:17 - Either that, or chicken that's self-aware. 12:07 - *Cinema Sins VO:* 'Withholding crucial information from the main characters that would shorten the run-time of the movie, so they pad it out!' *ding!* ...There is more, but I think that's a perfect place to end. Well done. This was an awesome video. Can't wait for the next one! :D

@@mysfiring Thank you so much! Now that I have a more proper filming location I'm going to be posting more frequently so be on the lookout. 😊 Ah, the lamp is a bit cut off at the top. Pretty much all of it is in frame but I will see if I can tweak it before I film again. Thanks for the feedback!

@@AveryTalksAboutStuff You're welcome. :3 The rest of the lamp (base) is fine if it's cut off slightly by the frame, but as a viewer, seeing everything but the very top of the lamp could be considered a bit of a tease. :P Remember that concept in photography how 'if you need to cut off limbs, then here are the places that it's best to do it, but *not* where you'd expect a body part to join'? I guess this stems from that. Granted, lamps don't have joints, but you know what I mean.

I juts watched this movie on Disney Plus. I personally thought it was really messed up. I personally think that a Ghost trying to marry a living person who is also married messed up. I didn't really find it funny either. However I did love the set design, and some the of effects like the skeletons were really nice. I probably wouldn't watch it again. I'm excited to see the new Haunted Mansion movie that Disney is making, and I hope it's better than this one.

Those are all very valid points. It will be interesting to see what they do with a second chance at making the movie.

The Even Stevens movie is still the only Disney channel movie that holds up to this day. This one is at least okay but it's just Eddie Murphy being goofy.

The funny thing is this movie got a huge theatrical release and everything. They really hyped it up and had a lot riding on it. Personally I always go to the wizards of Waverly place movie 😂

Avery you can still buy a house one day, I'm not a realtor but make sure that you have a perfect credit score, you can look up how to do this on KZbin and a job that can pay off your low interest loan over a couple years. Your high credit score will give you the option to get a low interest loan

To my opinion Disney's The Haunted Mansion (2003) is good but not great and of course right now I want disney to give Guillermo Del Toro the greenlight to direct the remake of Disney's The Haunted Mansion. What do you think?

I think suicide is an inappropriate subject for a children’s movie. I wouldn’t show this to my daughter. Unfortunately, she has made suicidal statements and she’s only 8

I'm sorry to hear that. I've dealt with mental illness from a very young age as well. I'm not the one to give advice obviously but as a note of encouragement I'd say that with the support of loved ones I've managed to build a fulfilling life and keep it under control. Sending positivity to you and your daughter. 💛

This was one of my favorite movies, growing up and I loved the first half of the movie but the second half is so problematic in my opinion????
@AveryTalksAboutStuff4 жыл бұрын
Yeah same. There are some genuinely strong points early on but then you get to that second half and it's very yikes.

I mean I'm all for interracial relationships, but that portrayal of them is very uhm unbelievably unbearable.
@AveryTalksAboutStuff4 жыл бұрын
@@kazuhasgloves I definitely feel like Disney is unable to tackle heavy topics because their need to Disney-fy everything gets in the way of actually handling the subject matter correctly. And Elizabeth straight up deserved better. 😅

I love eddie murphy too but..he clearly phoned it in on this one..epsecially in the scene when he is trying to wake his dead wife..that is just the most embarasingly cringy performance of his career..its just super devoid of any convincing emotion..basically that and John Hurt's "I love you wife" line in lost in space are the two most "You dont actually know this woman, do you?" lines in cimema.
