Great video and definitely what a lot of us are thinking. The Sigma 45mm F2.8 is the closest so far, it's fantastic. I agree though, more options/more compact would be great, I'd love to see the Samyang 35mm F2.8, or a clone, come to Panasonic next. It's about 1cm shorter than the Sigma 45 and half the weight. If they could find someway to do that as F2 still with AF, I'd pay a lot for that. We probably have to be realistic though too, there's a reason we don't see true pancake primes (that're also fast/AF) across the board on full frame, it's not just Panasonic. Since to do it without compromises, covering a much larger sensor takes a lot more glass. Especially the further the lens gets away from 35/50mm standard focal lengths. That's why we typically see one area being compromised to achieve the others, like no AF, or F3.5/F4. Maybe there's a way to compromise slightly on all areas though? Like imagine the Brightin Star 28mm F2.8 - not the best quality or sharpness but what if that had AF (probably still manual aperture) and was a bit longer to accommodate the parts. That would be a great option for anyone that's not pixel peeping or studio shooting.

Awesome content! S9 firmware update came just in time for me. I had to record a concert and was able to use the S9 as my B cam and the S5ii as my A. The concert was nearly 3 hours and the S9 never overheated, it got a little hot around the lens mount but nothing to be concerned about. My canon used to got much hotter after 15 minutes of recording, so for this to have recorded for a few hours, only having to pause to change batteries removed any concerns I had.

Shot a podcast yesterday with the S9 as my B cam. In 1080 I shot 1 hr and 32 min straight. The body was slightly warm but no warnings.

Real World insight - S9 shot alongside multiple S5 II for Weddings. Since new firmware Scenario 1: Shot as a Safety Shot for Pre Gathering & Ceremony 1 hour 14 minutes all the way through. slightly warm but very slightly. Sigma 28-70 Scenario 2: Moved Tripod to Speeches shot 47 minutes Canon EF 70-200 adapted on Tripod Collar. Then Handheld for the remainder of the day. I have absolutely no worries that the S9 would go at least 2 Hours recording now. I’m on standby for the Pancakes 😂 For now I use the Sigma I-Series 45mm for EDC on the S9. Completely agree LUMIX needs to put some energy into Pancakes ASAP.

Is Nikon Zf and 28-400mm too big as everyday camera that you bring to even mall?

I totally agree. This was one of the reasons I sold my Sigma FP. The body was incredible, but no one was offering a reasonably small lens with image stabilization.

I plan to get the Voigtlander 28 f/2 for the S9 but totally agree Panasonic should quickly produce faster small lenses for those who don't like manual focus lenses.

This is absolutely spot on. I really believe Lumix needs to get a full line of small lenses to pair with the S9. Right now I use the Sigma 45 f2.8 and Sigma 65 f2. They pair well with the S9.

Agreed! Lumix needs to make some pancake lenses. The S9 would be an instant buy if they had some good ones.

with the new 18-40 it's an amazing travel camera. open gate is a game changer, the new hybrid zoom is a game changer..the 18-40 is an 18-60. but yes, they need to copy nikon and drop a tiny 28 f2.8 and 40 f2
@chcomes2 ай бұрын
kind of. the 18-40 i have on it is tiny, the 28-200 as well, and quite ok optically. i also miss a pancake 30ish prime. samyang where r you?

if they don't drop an m43 version of the S9 I would be extremely surprised.

This should have been their first APS-C camera

They should have copued samyang's tiny series for full frame. They are pretty small full frame lenses and loved them to death.

Samyang has released one L-Mount lens in 16 months since being announced as joining L-mount. Really don't know what's taking them so long to adapt the mount for some of their stuff. Those pancakes, and that 135mm f/1.8 would do very well right about now.

If you are a beginner don’t watch this video! Just buy the camera you won’t regret it

I bought the Lumix S9 and returned it to upgrade to the S5ii. The problem is not the lenses with the S9. The problem is two issues: 1. No hot shoe for a flash 2. Build quality As to the hotshoe missing, it can't be taken seriously as a stills camera. As you can't do indoor photography. Major fail! I understand the issues with an electronic shutter and flash timing. But as a user, I would NEVER buy this a primary photo camera. The S9 is a strong video camera, the time limit has now been lifted. It has anamorphic and many other pro settings and produces a beautiful Vlog picture. The images are truly lovely once graded. But the overall quality kills this camera. The dials and hardware are not up to a semi pro user. If Panasonic had lifted the Build quality in this camera, it would have been the lightest anamorphic video beast EVER! I can only recommend this camera for the Hobbyist user as it is currently. 😢

This camera was never intended to be a “semipro” camera. This has been explained by Lumix already. And I have taken photos indoors with this camera since I purchased it and It absolutely can take photos indoors. A hot shoe does not have anything to do with the ability to taking photos indoors. Videos don’t need to be graded to be lovely. The build quality is fine for what this camera is meant for.

The rolling shutter is not good. Both Sony ZV-E1 and Canon R8 are much better in this department.

Not interchangeable at all. Have both and serve different purposes. My main photo camera out of studio lately.
