The main reason this is working so well is that super dry humility level. The old school version of this is a moistened cloth sheet hanging in an entryway or window.

@growtreeorganics you can use yucca for soap and shampoo, just smash the roots or leaves with a rock, add some water and boom, soap suds
@a_fellow_homesteader4 ай бұрын
We have done that! We need to cultivate many more in order to have a good supply and not taking out too many. We do as many natural things like that as we possibly can. ✌🏾💜🌍
@GrowTreeOrganics4 ай бұрын
The sapanin in the yucca is good for adding to compost tea and different spray mixes too! Just as it acts like the soap it helps "spread" or disperse the water and nutrients better, especially into soil! Really helps the water absorb evenly in the soil and dry soil. ✌🏾

You don't even need the water pump. You can get one of those drinking water tanks with the gate valve spigot, set it on the shelf, and use gravity to feed the water. You just make a trough of some sort, an old mud tray like what they use to spread gypsum on the wall while they are taping and bedding would work. Then you screw your fabric to the inside of that tray so that it touches the bottom with most of the fabric hanging straight down from the edge. You have that set up below your spigot to catch the water. You can still use the chicken wire or an old window screen to hold the material straight so it does not blow. You fill the trough up to where it is about a 1/4" to 1/2" from the top and let the fabric wick the water down to the rest of the fabric. You can watch it and adjust your flow rate from the spigot and the water height in the trough to make sure you are getting the optimal amount of water for cooling while not wasting it on the floor. Set up your fan like you did in this video.
@GrowTreeOrganics4 ай бұрын

@@GrowTreeOrganics Awesome! Not using electricity is always a bonus!. If you want to know a better and more permanent solution that does not require any input at all but works great in the desert, look into windcatchers. They used them in the Persian Empire to great effect. It basically uses natural air flow that happens everywhere to draw hot air out of a building and replace it with cool air that is drawn through subterranean vents which gets cooled by the ambient ground temperature. It is really genius, low tech, no energy usage cooling.

@@GrowTreeOrganics I watched part of your video and it appears that your ground tube is just below the surface of the ground instead of being buried several feet underneath the ground. Are you adding to the grade above the tube? If the tube is too close to the surface, it can actually do the opposite and heat your home instead of cooling it, which is probably not the outcome which you are going for.

War movies show soldiers used a net overhead with strips of camo cloth that provided camoflauge and blocked some sun. If you are interested in working further on your cooling, I suggest you watch some videos by Tech Ingredients. they have a few that talk about making your own A/C, he even makes it Solar powered. What you have is usually called a swamp cooler, like you said. it trades heat for humidity. if you would like to get cooling without the humidity, there needs to be a few more steps in the cycle. can't argue with the results, though. stay safe, keep cool.

This guy has been going through and removing them to noticeable effect.
@GrowTreeOrganics4 ай бұрын
Oh yea, I watch Brian and what he's doing! I have a different opinion when it comes to invasive species and that labeling, part of my opinion is that invasive only means lack of management. But everyone is different on how they approach their land and that's the beauty of permaculture and working with nature. Granted we are cutting juniper down for the build and why I'm selective with what I cut. We want diversity and have a monoculture here so in creating a healthy desert forest, we will need to cut out overcrowded trees and such too make way for the pinyon trees that are growing and for all the pioneer species that we'll bring in, on top of the food forest development. This is project is a snowball slowly gathering momentum and mass. Appreciate you sharing that!✌🏾
