I don't usually comment on things online, but I just wanted to say thank you for the time and effort you put into these videos. It's been a rough year and your content reminds me of a time when I was sat on the hallway floor outside of my big brother's room (because of course I wasn't allowed in lol) talking about the latest Harry Potter book, or his latest anime obsession, or some weird story on Quizilla I had read and was far too young to understand. It's so comforting, so thank you. I hope you know you've made a positive difference to some stranger on the internet.

I would like to present my Collins oc, Eloise Collins. She was the product of a loveless entanglement between Angelique and Barnabas and she is also immortal cuz her mom was a witch. Barnabas scorned her so she ran away and has been off doing her own thing, in an ideal world she'd be introduced in the time travel segment and then come back to town to be a problem in the present :)

My Collinsona is Ina Collins. She’s from the Portland, Oregon branch of the family and runs a small coffeehouse. She spends her free time making intricate dolls of her workers, even using their own hair on the process, and has a shrine dedicated to a coworker that she has a secret obsession with 🤭😉

my collinsona is Jedidiah Collins, the boisterous, egocentric second cousin of Elizabeth who owns a giant ranch in the Nevada desert. After the police found he was evading taxes, it led to a dramatic shootout at his ranch where he died, supposedly. Yet the Collinsport side of the family doesn't know he faked his death and is on the run, and welcome him to the family with open arms. Meanwhile, an FBI agent come to town and Jedidiah creates increasingly goofy disguises to outwit the agent. The family just thinks he's very into theater or something.

My Collinsona is Reynard Baptise a wandering fortune-teller who senses great evil and power at Collinwood. He is drawn to the House of Dark Shadows by its many ghosts - figurative and literal - and wishes to commune with the malevolent force that is Angelique, to learn from her the dark secrets of witchcraft. He's also an accomplished cook and is more than willing to trade his "loyal" services to get access to this font of power.

Thank you for covering this. I loved the comic books when I was a kid (I'm getting pretty old now) and it had completely left my mind over the years. I appreciate all the effort you put into making your Dark Shadows videos. I had only seen a few episodes, so your thorough coverage was exactly what I needed. Your humour and insights were entertaining and informative. I don't usually watch longer videos all the way through, but I was here until the very end for yours.

My Collins oc is uncle Larry. He was Barnabas' fathers best friend. He was a constant figure in Barnabas' life growing up, and gave him tips on how to be such a "ladies man". He enjoyed his spirits and meat, and sometimes he got a little loud, but father always talked him down eventually. Coffee also helped. He owned a local general store, but his wife mainly dealt with the store while Larry ran around town swinging his wealth around. His wife hated him, but the money and stability for a woman at that time was impossible to find elsewhere for an older maiden such as her. It doesn't help she didnt have children, not because she couldn't have them, but because uncle Larry's junk was lost in one of the harsh winter freezes right after their marriage.

It is mentioned that the book History of the Collins family was printed just for family members and there are only something like four copies. It was stated originally that Josette was born in 1800 and died in 1821. A later scene shows her tombstone as dated died in 1822. Vickie visits Josette's grave and tells Burke Jeremiah buried Josette far away from the rest of the family as punishment for killing herself and leaving him. Later a few weeks before the 1795 story arc Barnabas tells Julia he first met Josette when she came to marry his elderly uncle and after years of marriage she fell in love with Barnabas. All these contradict everything in the 1795 story arc. Also an interesting moment is the first scene between Barnabas and Angelique when Barnabas tell her he can't be with her because Josette loves him. It's the later scene when he says he loves Josette.
@DavidMChannelАй бұрын
ah, I was aware of the discrepencies in what Barnabas said about his old family vs what we see in 1795, and I was vaugley aware of the Josette grave issue because it takes them ages to fix it, but I did *not* know about the history book explanation! thank you very much for the clarification- I've always found this odd and was somehow unaware of this

I could never take Angelique seriously as a servant girl in Martinique. She's a blue eyed blonde who talks like Grace Kelly and has this elegant air to her.
@DavidMChannelАй бұрын
iirc some plantation families did sometimes have white servants- mostly for housework. so its plausible. it was often indentured servitude. So it is possible for Angelique to have worked in a house like that. Its unlikely, but is *technically* accurate- well, not the grace kelly bit obviously lmao

The secret room in the Collins mausoleum was originally used to store munitions for the Revolutionary War. Joshua--incredibly!--was an American patriot and he secretly stockpiled arms and gunpowder there to help the American cause. (Presumably, the other well-to-do patriots were in on this!) If the redcoats got into the cemetery and began snooping around the mausoleum because they had heard rumors about Joshua's alleged ammunition stockpile, they'd only walk away empty-handed; because all the guns and powder were stockpiled in the truly secret room. And dead men tell no tales! Anyway, that's the backstory of the secret room in the mausoleum.

Great show David. You covered a great deal that is important to the Collins' history. Yes, I've seen the movie Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. You did a good job in explaining the similarity. I recently rewatched some of my Mrs. Johnson episodes and I still love the actress Clarice Blackburn who played, her, Abigail Collins and Minerva Trask. What really intrigued me so much about her, was her joining the All My Children Production Team a short time after DS ended. That was impressive that she could work in front of and behind the camera so well. Yes, Angelique had all our attention and empathy. When you think about it, Barnabas really jilted her and she was still very much "a woman" not just a witch. I love how Trask and Abigail tied Vickie up in the chair and gagged her with the muffler. "IF YOU WON"T COME TO GOD THEN I SHALL BRING GOD TO YOU!" Trask say. (hee hee hee). Those two characters still crack me up and spiced up 1795. 😃

Since my name is David too, I suppose I'll use my middle name Josiah. Josiah Lee Collins is a distant member of the family and came to visit the family May of 1971 (right after the end of the series). He experiences some of the unusual happenings at Collinwood. Chris Jennings returns to Collinwood separated from Sabrina Stewart. Josiah adopts him as his big brother and they become the best of buddies. He helps Chris find a cure for his werewolf curse. Chris and Carolyn reunite and he helps her through her grieving for Jeb. I don't agree with Sam Hall's Beyond The Shadows. In my universe, Chris never killed himself. That does not compute. Sorry Sam. Don Briscoe was my favorite male actor of the show. Followed up by Gene Lindsey (Randall Drew). I was told Don Briscoe was originally planned for the part of Randall. But, I still love Gene Lindsey in the role. Great actor. Well, that's my 1971 update and two cents. 😃

I have been rewatching selected episodes of the show (the 1840 episodes and the 1897 episodes) and am struck by, despite the cheap special effects, how good and atmospheric the series is. The story line is compelling, even though it is slow-moving because it is a soap opera, and the actors do an excellent jobs with the characters. There are some repetitive scenarios, but they can be skipped. As I have been watching again, there are so many actors that I had forgotten were part of the series, such as Jerry Lacy and Roger Davis and David Thayer.
