I can’t wait to see him talk about Tears of the Kingdom. I was late in getting BotW just due to not being able to save enough for a Switch, but finally with the money from my first serious job I had enough to buy a switch and this game. It sounds silly but getting this game was a goal of mine for awhile. I had wanted it since seeing the trailers and this sounds extremely silly but I cried when I came home from work and saw my brother had unpacked my switch to charge it for me so I could play it with full battery when I got home.

I feel like Zelda is secretly an Immersive Sim like Deus Ex, Thief and Dishonored. They don't really limit your abilities and your skills but give you a set of tools for you to solve problems. Calling up a doppelganger and chain her with enemies in Dishonored 2, shooting wooden ropes to hide on the ceiling in Thief, etc. These games really push you to explore, not only physically, but also mentally, to create new ways to reach your goals. I love them with a passion.

Notice how those games are stealth games? Good stealth games operate on and are designed fundamentally to be "here's a problem, here's a giant toolbox, solve that shit" type of games. Most open world games today pretty much became scripted "This is how you must exactly do this mission or you'll fail." Rockstar is a huge culprit of this. With the only ones that I can name off other than BotW being HZD, Far Cry 5, and AC Odyssey and even then your only freedom is limited to killing enemies in how you see fit.

One of my favorite experiences in breath of the wild is when I started hunting Lynels. I've always been afraid of big bosses and battles in video games, but in this zelda i became so confident. I would prep cold resistant meals, put on the savage set and head for the tundra to hunt the scariest of beasts in breath of the wild, and it was freaking intense, my my hands would get sweaty and my body would begin to shake. But in the end, I had conquered the Lynels and I felt so good about myself. :)

Breath of The Wild was my first real video game. Really the only other thing I played up to that point was lego Star Wars on the wii at a friend’s house. I actually remember saving up enough money for the Wii U. I went to target with 300 dollars cash only to find out it got discounted for the switch that was releasing in a month or so. I bought the switch on release date with BoTW. I had zero idea what the game was, I went in completely blind. Probably my best gaming memory was on the plateau, going through the shrines. I can’t believe it’s been over 4 years since then. Definitely one of my favorite games.

Honestly the best moment of this game for me was sneaking into Hyrule Castle when I had like 5 hearts and stumbling into the room with the giant skeleton. I died a couple times, but after using every item I had on me I barely managed to kill the boss. Then I go to the chest and BOOM there's the HYLEAN SHIELD BABY. Was a great little moment that while not using the mechanics creatively like you said, gave me a sense of actually discovering something in the world.
@shearman3605 жыл бұрын
I remember when I was low on hearts in a thunderstorm so I dropped a ton of apples on the ground and put a metal shield next to them in hopes that the lightning would cook the food. The lightning blasted in different directions across the map and I ended up dying shortly after due to my lack of health but it was still a fun discovery nonetheless. Great game 10/10

They then got a WiiU but didn't play a whooole lot on that. But then came the Switch and holy crap, did he become a BOTW addict. He did everything. Even collected all those fucking korok seeds, knowing you got almost nothing for it. He must have a few thousand hours in total and even these days spends an hour or two a night just roaming Hyrule. Tips for enjoying playing this game on your first playthrought: -Turn off the HUD, I regret not having done that when playing it for the first time and then I did it while playing hard mode and it was so much better. -Don't use fast travel, once you unlock many teleportation points you don't get the feeling of adventure anymore, it becomes tidious instead of amazing. Go on foot or by horse. -Use your horse and build a relationship with him, seriously, it might sound dumb but when playing I nearly never used my horse because I'd teleport everywhere and climb up shit like a madman. Don't do that, consider your horse as your partner and you'll have an incredible experience of friendship with him and it might become your best adventure ever. -Disable objective markers, trust me, it will make the discoveries much better and you never really need them to complete the quests, most of the time they give you enough infos to know what to do. -Don't try to spare as much you weapons. They will break eventually so don't end up with a billion fire sword in your inventory, just use them. Try not to open your map too often, use your brain, indications on the signs, listen to the villagers that give you infos on where you are. It will help you immerse yourself into the game more. That's pretty much it, if you've already finished the game, go buy the DLC and start the hard mode with these tips, they will give you a whole new perspective on this beautiful game.

Serious question here: I have a PC for most of my gaming needs, but I am really interested in buying Switch or PS4 for exclusives. Switch got me interested because of this amazing Zelda and I was always interested in all the mario games, but was unable to play them. Should i go for the Switch, or PS4? Because PS4 has Uncharted series and Read Dead Redemption 2 coming up. Help me make up my mind please
@NakeyJakey7 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I would say PS4/PS4 Pro. Between Bloodborne, The Last of Us 1 (and eventually Part 2), Uncharted games, RDR2 at launch and all the other exclusives, you'll get way more bang for your buck with a PS4. That isn't to say that getting a Switch down the road would be bad either, but as of now if the only thing drawing you to one is Zelda, then wait. Once CEMU (Wii U emulator) is working perfect on PC (assuming you have a decent graphics card) you can just play Breath of the Wild ON PC @ whatever resolution you want. But if you do that, make sure to BUY a Wii U copy of the game and don't pirate it! Trust me, it's worth every penny. TL:DR - Get a PS4 because you'll be able to play Zelda on PC very soon, but don't pirate it because that's not cool!

With the new reply I thought I would share the latest developments with this story: so during summer 2017 I bought the switch and played Zelda, Mario kart, Mario Odyssey . They were all amazing , especially Zelda BoTW witch I consider best game of all time for me. But anyway, since I finished almost everything including DLC, and no new exclusives seemed to the horizon I went out and sold the Switch to buy a PS4 in December! I got the bundle with RDR2 because I just cannot miss out on Rockstar games, and at first it was really amazing but later on the fun kind of went out of it (repetitive missions, no freedom) and ur review also kinda opened my eyes (damn u). But anyway, still no regrets, gonna finish the game and Uncharted, Spiderman,TLOU, GOW are next in line. Thank you all for great suggestions, its strange how much happened since that comment lol

I wish I could enter the universe of Men In Black, grab a neuralyzer and some sweet shades, wipe my memory, and play this game over again. Repeat ad infinitum.

Thank you Bakey Jakey, I've been playing this game so much recently and I suck at it and I screamed at it more that I have than dark souls, but I love it.

One of the shrine puzzles required me to do this elaborate thing where you have to get this ball into some hole across the map, instead I used Stasis on the ball, used my sword as a golf club and it went all the way into the hole. I'm not a smart man but my third eye opened that day.

I also really like how the champion abilities work, particularly Revali's gale, which aside from Mipha's is probably the most useful. I have so many times I've used it to get to bypass climbing in the rain and thought "I'm fairly sure I wasn't supposed to be here" and then found a korok seed or something.

jakey, i started watching your sweaty videos about 5 months ago, and while i don't really care for the raps (though they're hilarious and original) i will say that you do fantastic and wholehearted reviews while creating a little buldge in my pants every time keep it up

Brother, this was hilariously written and interestingly put. Amazing video, I’ve seen a lot of yours, but this is just really well made. It is definitely deserving of some million or so views.
