Jurassic park was the first "adult" movie I watched when I was young. Captured my imagination so much more than Star Wars or Indiana Jones did. At one point I tried to recreate it with toys lol. As much as I wish I still had that video, I probably wouldn't be able to get past the opening part where the caged dino eats that guy.

What I like about Jurassic Park is that even if the dinosaurs are represented as animals, they can also represent the themes of the story, The Brachiosaurus representing the beauty and magic of the mystery, the Dilophosaurus being the absolute unpredictability of how anything could go wrong at any given time, lastly Tyrannosaurus and Raptors representing the danger and mayhem when treated lightly. Edit: credits to Red Raptor Writes btw, he's a cool ytuber

It’s about as flawless as a movie can realistically be. Jurassic world is by no means a terrible film, but it’s competing with this behemoth in cinema that means so much to us as viewers, and I don’t believe that there will ever be a film that tops Jurassic Park, at least for me personally.

@@Trigger__HappySums up my thoughts exactly. I just watched the first movie last night after not having watched it since I was a kid (watched it religiously as a child, made me fall in love with dinosaurs). The movie STILL holds up, just like other classics like Gladiator. As a kid, I loved it for the dinosaurs, and as an adult I love it for the dinosaurs AND the characters. And yes, the biggest problem Jurassic World had was trying to replicate what the first movie did. Problem being is it doesn’t do the best job of this and lacks the essence of what made the first movie so good. The JW movies are still fun monster flicks but that’s it.

I recently read the book for the first time and really enjoyed it. While being the same story from the movie, there are many small changes that make it a different and worthwhile experience. The tone is darker, some characters and their relationships are changed and more fleshed out. There are a lot more scenes that really help to flesh out the world building, which I loved. All that to say, I also think the movie is a masterpiece but the book is equally worth your time.😊😊

Great point about modern movies as well. There's absolutely no subtlety to modern blockbusters. It's so insulting that modern writers write dialogue as though the audience needs every last part of the plot explained in detail. Another thing to mention is that they just seem to haphazardly squeeze in unfunny humour in at every opportunity. A good plot and well written dialogue is what makes a film objectively good but somehow this has been almost completely lost when it comes to high budget blockbusters. 😔

Scene setting really does change things up. I saw The Lost World Jurassic Park first when I when I was 4 because there was a VHS shelf in my sisters closet. My parents put it there for space reasons but basicly I could just go in any time and grab a movie to watch. My mother worked nights. So I would grab a VHS to watch in the moring when my mom slept because I just got a new TV in my room with a VHS player. I was probably looking for Land Before Time but stumbled on The Lost World. The movie was already part way through, just before the rex attack scene. Oddly that scene didn't scare me as a kid and I would watch The Lost World a bit before my grandparents gave me the Jurassic Park VHS to go with The Lost World one. I was always confused on the canon at the time because I didn't know The Lost World was a sequel. Aside from that the Rex scene in Jurassic Park scared me. I think it was the lack of music that made me forget I was watching a movie. The Lost World Rex scene also doenst have music but I wasn't scared because they werent hunting. They wanted the baby so it made sense to me. The JP Rex on the other hand was out for blood and that glance it gives the car after it eats the goat is what made it hard for me to sleep later that night.

I remember finding a crumpled paper-sleeve VHS of Jurassic Park at my grandma's house, then watching it on her small box television. The cover art was so great, but I barely saw the movie through the cracks of my hands over my eyes. Edit: Great video by the way. I like to deride MCU films for their shallow humor, but I never really thought of it as a trend in modern movies as a whole. You've put to words what I previously only instinctively disliked in movies, and that's why I like reading movie reviews.

And then we have this movie. Considering what this movie is about and what it's based on, you would NOT like the videos comparing the creatures in this movie to what is known about dinosaurs in real life in 2022 (maybe expect the sound talk).

The terms "movie magic" is something so many cynical wannabe writers and filmmakers use often as a way to mock sentimentality and somehow diminish or undermine what Spielberg achieved in his early career, but its absence is extremely noticeable in todays surface-only movies. To me the filmmakers of today are just emulations of what they think a successful movie is suppose to be by throwing as much money as they can at the spectacle without any consideration as to why we should care, sure there are some incredible looking movies in recent years but often they leave me hollow without any desire to revisit them. I always return to Spielberg because he made me care about cinema, it didn't matter what spectacle he had in his movies what made them masterpieces was a sense of a soul in his films and he genuinely cares about them as if each movie of his was his own child I knew he was going to put everything into making them the best possible movies he could make. Jurassic Park works because if you took away the Dinosaurs its still a compelling movie about the morality of playing god in nature and you care about every human character in it. Its a common principle that the best horror movies ever made were successful because at the forefront you had characters you cared about and didn't want to see die, films of today forget this by making characters as incompetent as possible and ultimately end up making you route for the monster.
