I never ever had a doll or toys growing up because mum could not afford to buy them for us. My mum used to wrap up a tea towel and that used to be my doll I played with as a child. Hey Angela, I grew up in part in my village in Rep of the Congo, and I remembered my mum used emptied sardines cans to make "a long train", for me😊. Cans were connected by a rop. She used bottles lids as wheels. At about 6 years, my sisters and me used to pull some kind of grasses. These grasses are short with lots of roots. We made our dolls ourselves. I remember we used to braid those dolls... 😊 it was the first step in learning how to braid... My brothers used palm leaves to make cars and other toys. They used also old plastic bags, roll them.around, tied up with a rope to make balls so we can play together. We were happy and our parents never had worries about the last trend of toys on the market to offer us.

This reminds me id a fairytale where a princess who had many expensive dolls, but she didn't want to play. She went to the garden and started playing with a poor girl and her homemade dolls,eventually the two girls switched dolls. I cried and avoided the whole book because i was scared i would swap my homemade doll for an expensive one. I still sleep with that doll to this day :)

It can be dolls (Ndebele beadwork dolls, for example), baskets, mats, sculpture, masks, pottery, textile arts, wallpainting.But most of all I love African pottery.
