And why is it if you are lucky enough to find a stash of Roman coins or ancient jewellery buried in your garden whilst planting veggies it has to be handed into the 'Crown'? Why is it theirs not yours? A few years ago a couple of men using metal detectors got 5 years in jail for trying to sell a stash of old coins they found. Their 'crime' was not handing their find over to the sodding queen.😮 WTF!??

Had severe arthritis in my right hand for many years to the point were my doctor was considering steroid injections. I have also had back pain from a road accident when I was 16. Had followed the government and NHS guidelines on diet for many years, cut out animal fats, used vegetable and seed oils, margarine and limited eggs and dairy. Red meats were very rare in my diet. After my wife passed away 4 years ago I decided to change my diet completely. Eliminated veg and seed oils, started eating lots of eggs, cheese, butter and dairy. Red meat and fish often, particularly pork as it is a major source of essential nutrients. Cook mainly in animal fats. Cut down on carbs but still plenty of fruit and vegetables. Use olive oil and occasionally 'Cold Pressed' rapeseed oil. I cook from fresh or frozen with ready meals a rarity. Mainly a pizza once every couple of months as a treat. Within a year my arthritis had gone, I lost over 2 stone and I have just realised my back pain has gone. Not bad for an old codger aged 77. I can still chase the youngest grandchildren round and play garden badminton with them. My conclusion is 90% of good health is diet!!!! Always had backache from the age of 16 when I decided to argue with a van, the van won and I had a broken leg, a back injury and some short term memory brain damage. Over time the brain learns to ignore the pain although it is always present. Suddenly realised my back pain has gone. Says it all really. A real food diet is king!

Ah yes, the woman who advertises unsupported health practices described as "misinformation and a risk to health and safety" by the New South Wales Health Care Complaints Commission. ... The woman who does not have any recognised medical or dietary training. The woman prohibited in Australia from providing any health-related services at all following several complaints from the public and health professionals. The woman who was subject to a investigation that found that she provided dangerous advice to vulnerable patients, such as telling those with cancer to forego prescribed chemotherapy for bicarbonate of soda, and to give infants unpasteurised goat's milk which could potentially kill them. It's a good job she isn't like "big pharma" and "corrupt doctors" who are in it for the money though.....oh wait, she is in it for the money, as in the month following the HCCC's decision to ban her pushing her nonsense, O'Neill was scheduled to conduct a "wellness program" in the United States at a cost of *US$2,350 per person* and she still continues to deliver programs aimed at cancer patients at a cost of almost *US$6,000 per person*. She isn't brilliant, she is truly vile or, at best, dangerously deluded.

You are just old enough, like me, to have benefitted from a childhood relatively free of the poisons that have found their way into younger shopping trolleys - trolleys instead of the wee shopping bag being the problem. We used to have a shop for each thing - bread, meat, veg and fruit and supermarkets were less ''the thing'', at least here in the north of Scotland up to the late 70's/80's. I do feel concern for todays younger people. I don't think people really like having it pointed out but you are absolutely right.

I agree. The trouble with a lot of pharmaceutical products is that they started out in a plant and the balance is destroyed when just one or two compounds are isolated and created, often synthetically. A good example is meadowsweet from which aspirin was derived. The whole plant cures the problem an over indulgence of the extract can cause - ie stomach ulcers and such like. It [meadowsweet] is very good for GERT. I'm not against conventional medicines, because they do have a place, but they tend to be hammers rather than gentle persuasions and should be a last resort kind of thing.

I think its time that mainstream medicine and 'alternative' medicine or whatever you want to call it, need to have a conversation rather than being opposed to each other. We shouldn't be sneered at if we mention alternative medicine to our GP, but neither should alternative practitioners dismiss mainstream medicine as a whole. Unfortunately there has become a big divide with arrogance on both sides sometimes. I discovered a brilliant local naturopathic nutritionist a few years ago and she has done wonders for my health. But i also use the NHS who have also helped me with some practical issues but they are not as good with the treatment of chronic illnesses and are often far too interventionist and not focussed on prevention. I hope to see the two sides coming together in the future with less division. This would be true integrative medicine.

Three years ago I borrowed a book from my neighbour who has an allotment and is into natural remedies and healthy foods. This book is astonishing! I had to purchase my own copy it was that good. 'Hedgerow Medicine' written by a husband and wife, Julie Bruton-Seal and Matthew Seal have created a wealth of information for many of todays ailments. Going through the book was not only educational but beautifully produced. They also run courses. The book covers 50 native plants! This is my go to medical herbal bible!

@ I’m a homeopath and we use certain herbs too. I have prescribed Sabal serrulata for prostate cancer, Crataegus (which is the red berries from hawthorn) for heart issues. It’s a really safe berry and full of vitamin C. I use symphytum leaves and roots: this is knit bone or comfrey. It contains alkaloids called allantoins which regenerate skin cells and tissues. I grow and harvest my own Crataegus and symphytum and a few other plants but they are available from the herbal apothecary though you might have to be a therapist to be able to buy them. Homeopaths often use, when required, caenothus. Berberis and chelidonium for organ drainage of spleen kidney and liver. There are others too like taraxacum which is dandelion. Plantain which is another weed is a marvellous plant too. Can be harvested and used. Another favourite is elderberry, the juice is brilliant for coughs, it can be made into a syrup. My dad told me that during the second world war, he was let off school along with all the pupils, to collect rose hips. They are rich in vitamin C and were used for colds. If you are into this then you can grow and harvest these though some plants need to be used with care. Not particularly any of the ones I mentioned. Do get a book on this or raid the internet for information. There’s a ton of research on herbs and qualified herbalists will be able to support your health if required too.

I've been making my own herbal solutions and tinctures in alcohol and non alcohol. So at Christmas I felt very poorly, and the illness went straight to the chest, it was so fast without warning, never felt anything like it. All the homemade remedies i had tenfold and everything I learned i put to practice. It was hard work because I felt so rough and I was thinking instinctively it was pneumonia tho ive never had it. I am so glad I did what I did because i learned days later many people were poorly and pneumonia was one. I recovered in less than 2 weeks, my hard work paid off. And now i need to replenish everything 😂

It's wonderful to know that so many are now returning to the 'old ways'. This not only brings natural health, but also brings us closer to nature. I've used nature remedies for many years, and recently begun making tinctures. My first, lilac blossom, being amongst other things antiviral, has been a great support, particularly over the last few weeks. Thank you Richard for always sharing so much wonderful information!

KZbin is a great place to learn about Herbalism...some of my favourite herbalists are April Graham -She is of the Woods (USA), Doc Jones (USA), Home is Where the Heart is(British) and there are many more but I'm brain farting 😅. Many herbal plants that are found in the USA are also found in the UK...and Australia for that matter...so foraging or growing your own herbal remedies is relatively easy. I'm an Aussie and I spent lockdown deep diving into herbalism. I now have a lovely little apothecary of my own going and grow many medicinal plants in my own garden.

👏🏻 I couldn’t agree more. Natural remedies r the way to go. Natural food, natural medicines and natural fabrics for our clothes! Sadly I cannot afford any of it but I so wish I could. I go as far as I can on a severely limited budget. I am sure that my health problems (fibro and adhd) are caused by the rubbish pumped into our food! I know when I could afford to eat purely organic I had more energy and less pain.

@@yvonnerees7589 It's a dangerous quackery solution driven by snake oil salesmen, that can destroy your throat and stomach over the course of time, because it is a form of bleach. It was banned for good reason and it wasn't "ridiculed", it was warned of being the idiotic hazard to people's health that it is, which has no proven benefits to anything whatsoever and which was dreamed up by some absolute crackpot and oddball grifter who "believed" it cured people of something when it didn't. Wouldn't have thought you had a heart/blood pressure condition to nurse yourself through ....which is what I use hawthorn for - although it does actually relieve certain aches and pains, probably because it improves circulation so well. The old ways are so called because they worked - if they didn't they would not have become 'the old ways' because they'd be discarded and not in our memories and i thank the gods I grew up where I did and was shown a few of them when I was a child. Turkeytail is good but I prefer elderflower and such like because I have it in my garden and know the conditions it grows in. I've filled the store with tinctures, teas, syrups and so on this year, mainly because more of my neighbours and so on are now asking for something when they feel ill. These medicines do need to be approached with care. They are potent and I am aware that the tiny little bit I know of them is only just sufficient to make sure I don't offer one that will interact with another or some modern medicine that a person might be taking. I haven't killed anyone, nor any horse, yet. I always gather enough dried herbs/weeds to see the old ponies through the winter. Keeps them healthy and their joints free of elderly aches.

I use natural remedies at home and brought up 3 kids with hardly any need for a doctor, and countless animals too. However i do resort to pharmaceutical remedies in certain cases. Successful treatment using natural remedies requires continuous rounds of preparation and treatment, and also require an exact diagnosis. The real advantages come with prevention rather than cure. If there is any doubt in my mind that my treatment will be less than 100% successfull, i don't hesitate to contact a doctor or vet - however this is very rare. My goto remedies are ginger, garlic, nettle, hawthorn, burdock, chamomile or feverfew, peppermint, and for infection of any kind, echinacea. S.ippery elm is a life saver, both internally and externally as a poltice. The best treatment of all is a healthy diet with supplements, and plenty of exercise.
