fire video!!!! Thanks for sharing Chris!!!! Could you do a video on the UAD Shadow Hills mastering compressor? Thanks.
@TinoSchulz19907 ай бұрын
I tried it. It works on some material. But i wouldn't really use it for mastering, as it can be quiet drastic on some material. I like it as a snare "magic-powder" plugin. It brings out certain harmonics that can really help make a snare cut through without messing too much with the transients. (Transient Designer or Vitalizer are also great tools, but on the other hand, it always depends on the source , of course).

I've discovered I really like vari-mu compressors. In addition to the UA version of the Fairchild, I also love the Manley Vari Mu and the Kush AR-1. The latter goes on my mix bus on every mix now.
@zachjarrett873011 ай бұрын
When moving the “Headroom” adjustment screw to the right you are *lowering* the amount of headroom, and thus making the compressor more reactive because of the lack of internal headroom. Additionally, this will increase the onset of distortion.

Been using the T-Racks 670 V1 for over a decade and I love it. It's in my master bus fx chain for nearly every track. Adds a subtle but fantastic pumping to dance tracks at 1db gain reduction. And that tone! YUMMY //// I may try out this UAD now. It's got a couple more features, newer algos.

UA is good. Just saying, the IK Multimedia T-RackS 5 bundle has a Dyna-Mu (Vari-mu) and Fairchild emulations that are very good and I feel underrated among the youtubers.

If you want suggestions, I would like to know how (if) you use the UAD" Vertigo Sound VSM-3 Mix satellite". Thank you for all the effort you put into your lessons! Have a good time✌️

This is my go to for use on my drum room bus. I generally have two stereo rooms and a mono I sum to that bus. Slap this on, an eq and some saturation -- lovely.

Thanks for this demo. I recently got the this UA version as well as the Waves Puigchild. I'm still learning them but they definitely have a sound. I got the Tone Empire version a while ago but wasn't really satisfied with it....seemed to lose bottom end and break up to easily? The Fairchild just works very differently from the usual buss comps I go for. I did get some nice results when really slamming a test voc. I much prefer it to something like a dbx160 or even a Distressor. I look forward to spending more time with it.

Thx for sharing. One of the videos I left a question about KLARK TEKNIK KT76 and do you think about them. It's just because of the affordability. Also, 500 series from Stam audio 1176 style compressor. Those are a little out of my budget, but your opinion thx

I have the Fairchilds, LA-2A and 1176 and to me they all sound the same. My ears can't identify "silky" or "creamy". What are you hearing that I'm missing?
@DCayce Жыл бұрын
Don’t feel bad, my friend, because I, and many others, are right there with you. We live in an age of splitting hairs when it comes to audio processing, and I honestly believe those claiming to hear these nuances are imagining them or hearing something so ridiculously vague that it’s not going to make any difference whatsoever in the final mix. I fully expect, at some point, to hear one of these hypersensitive gurus claim that the most critical ingredient to a great mix is the color of shirt you’re wearing.
@collinjamesguitar11 ай бұрын
Yeah I think a lot of it has to do with the source it’s compressing. I do think there are a few little differences you can hear from compressor to compressor. My take is that the big differences are how the attack and release feel and behave from compressor to compressor. A lot more so than tone. Although, as I said, there are definitely small tonal characteristics of each.
@jimsanger11 ай бұрын
The differences can be subtle depending on the instrument, sometimes you just find a compressor that's the perfect match. The Fairchild works great on groups for me, glueing everything together without covering up plus adding some warmth. It's just trial and error

I see you watched the White Sea Studio video on the Fairchild and made your pastiche of that video. BTW 670 wasn't a "stereo version of the 660" - the 670 has a different circuit design. They are close cousins.
@mixdownonline Жыл бұрын
I've mixed several albums using the Fairchild, so I know it pretty well, but yes, I do watch other videos, and read a bunch of stuff on this, and made my take on it.. It's actually the fourth video out of my Vintage type plugins series. kzbin.info/aero/PLHfS_0liDLIN4OKB-BSxF5GUI5DB53VLC :-) You're right about the different circuit, but I like to make my videos simple, so like I said in the video, they sound just a bit different, and one has stereo controls, and the other not, I think that's all we need to know, the rest is not important IMO, what's important is how to be able to use it, and I hope I was able to demonstrate that in this video. Thanks for watching, Steve :-)
