Great video! As a side note, a restored version of that 21 window VW Kombi sold for over $200,000 at Shannons!

What a brilliant piece of Australian history. How thankful we must all be for the work that the NFSA does in preserving these snapshots of this fascinating country we call home. Many thanks for posting and all the work you do

I really treasure these restored films you're releasing. Such good quality in all aspects. Its very therapeutic to be able to reminisce about that period (I was living in Perth then), and to see how other parts of Australia functioned.

These clips from NFSA are such a treat. Totally agree with the comment about the wonder of these 1960s films being made by filmmakers rather than influencers.

This is gold. Cycling legend Syd Patterson had a bike shop in east bentleigh vic for many years and I’m sure my dad had a beer or 10 with him at the boundary hotel .😀

Look at the old Landcruisers. They were old back then. And that 14 pound Barra, I reckon there was 14 pound in her hair alone.

Watching this clip with local people, then in their early twenties, they not only recognised folks, but loved the narrative. True blue Top End!

Now....if we could only find someone who could provide a copy of Vincent Serventy's Nature Walkabout....but... I could hear Eastern Whipbirds...at Katherine Gorge. Yeh...ok!! Then they mentioned the use of computers!! Love to see the computers they'd be using!!

A year or so after this film was made, I was working in the St. George's Tce Perth office of Shell Chemical (a subsidiary of Shell Oil); one of my tasks was to check computer print-outs of chemical stocks against the hand-written records kept in daily ledgers. This was an important time of transition to a complete computerisation of our chemical stocks. The computer was a Main Frame (probably IBM) located in Melbourne, on the other side of the continent. It's likely that the computer referred to in the film was a similary large Main Frame device located in Darwin, possibly in the Govt. offices, or even at a University, and shared with others lacking suitable funds. Your late-model desktop PC likely has more computing power at your fingertips for a fraction of the cost of the 1960's Main Frames. For example, a few years later, a small hand-held electronic calculator providing basic arithmetic operations in 1973 was available to purchase for $75 from salesmen who made a good living selling them door to door.

still unrecognised as australians then , Menzies divided everyone , very Trumpesque
@duncanyourmate24333 жыл бұрын
When menzies 'made Canberra ' you had protestents and Catholics, thus departments were made, promotions were made or lost, on the basis of religion, & now everyone can agree (hope) manix was as divisionist as Trump, in our secular society, I 'd rather be together & debate over the BBQ, I hope we get there, Agree to Disagree, thats Australian
