The Maiden Hooded Shawl Crochet Tutorial + Links to Free Pattern!

Behold, the maiden shawl! Okay that makes it sound a lot more fancy than it is, but I love how this shawl looks! I’ve been wearing this since before I put a hood on it, and I love it. Hopefully you guys love it too! I think it’s a really nice addition to my garb and I am looking forward to wearing it at my next larp event.
I’m also going to be bringing these along with other things to sell at the game. (: Might see a little video about that later.
I do apologize that this video was so late, a lot of things were going on and it took longer than I expected to edit, film, and complete the video.

Supplies:
1400 Yards (give or take) of medium weight yarn
6.5 mm Crochet Hook
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
Measuring Tape
(optional) Thread that matches the shawl color
(optional) Button
(optional) Stitch markers or a bit of yarn in place of stitch markers

Things I changed:
I did 44 total rows before the scallop trim instead of 39
24 rows on the hood including single crochet
2 Single Crochet rows on the edge of the hood

3:18 - Row 2 (And beyond)
5:53 - (Optional) How to change your yarn color
6:57 - Scallop Border (When you like how many rows you've got)
7:51 - What to do if you run into too many or too few stitches near the center chain 2 space
8:59 - Tying off the ends
9:37 - Starting on the hood
10:24 - First row of the hood
10:56 - Second row of the hood and for as many rows as you need
11:41 - Fasten off end on the hood and leave a long tail for sewing!
11:57 - Fold top of the hood
12:05 - Thread your tapestry needle
12:12 - How to sew the mattress stitch to connect your hood
13:08 - (Optional) Single Crochet border along the hood edge
14:02 - (Optional) Adding a Button!

I was working on Agathas Reading Shawl when I found your video and saw that you are adding a hood to yours which is what I want to do with this one! Your shawl and the hood instructions are great and will aide me in attaching my hood, thank you kindly 😊 I'm 73 years old and learned to crochet from my grandmother as a child. The history of fibre arts goes back generations in my maternal line but sadly though I have daughters and granddaughters the tradition seems to end with me 😢. That is why I was so happy to find a young woman as yourself keeping the arts alive and bringing out such a lovely channel to which I've gladly subscribed 🎉😊. I saw this video back when it first came out and it was one of the things that inspired me to actually learn how to crochet something other than a scrubby! I'm currently on the hood section of my own maiden shawl in my larp character's colors! I can't wait for the next event I can wear it to😊😊

This is so neat! I also like that your using regular yarn (not something fancy and to expensive for me), thank you😊 Can I ask what would you say this size you made would fit? I feel comfortable in a 3XL top/shirt, (and like longer). So with that, can you tell me what size or rows to add of for me? This will be the first one I will make like this. I think the amount I mention in the video is good enough, I have sold a shawl that size to someone who wears that, but it depends how long you want the back to be too, you could try it on when you get to the rows I mentioned and see if you like it then add a few more if need be! Hopefully that helps!
