In Genesis, God makes a promise that He will bless all nations through Abraham's family. But with aging husbands, impatient matriarchs, blessing-stealing children, and jealous siblings who keep mucking things up, how will God's promise prevail?

The Children of Israel scatter throughout the Land Allah states that He divided the Jews into various nations, sects and groups, (And We said to the Children of Israel after him (after Musa died): "Dwell in the land, then, when the final and the last promise comes near, We shall bring you altogether as a mixed crowd (gathered out of various nations).")17:104 مِّنْهُمُ الصَّـلِحُونَ وَمِنْهُمْ دُونَ ذَلِكَ (some of them are righteous and some are away from that), some of them are led aright and some are not righteous, just as the Jinns declared, وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الصَّـلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَلِكَ كُنَّا طَرَآئِقَ قِدَداً ("There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary; we are groups having different ways (religious sects).") 72:11 Allah said here, وَبَلَوْنَـهُمْ (And We tried them), and tested them, بِالْحَسَنَـتِ وَالسَّيِّئَاتِ (with good and evil), with times of ease, difficulty, eagerness, fear, well-being and affliction, لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ (in order that they might turn (to Allah)) Allah said next, فَخَلَفَ مِن بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ وَرِثُواْ الْكِتَـبَ يَأْخُذُونَ عَرَضَ هَـذَا الاٌّدْنَى (Then after them succeeded an (evil) generation, which inherited the Book, but they chose (for themselves) the goods of this low life) This Ayah means, after the generation made up of righteous and unrighteous people, another generation came that did not have goodness in them, and they inherited the Tawrah and studied it. Mujahid commented on Allah's statement, (They chose (for themselves) the goods of this low life) "They will consume anything they can consume in this life, whether legally or illegally. Yet, they wish for forgiveness, وَيَقُولُونَ سَيُغْفَرُ لَنَا وَإِن يَأْتِهِمْ عَرَضٌ مِّثْلُهُ يَأْخُذُوهُ (Saying: "(Everything) will be forgiven for us." And if (again) the offer of the like came their way, they would (again) seize them.)" Qatadah commented on Allah's statement, يَأْخُذُونَ عَرَضَ هَـذَا الاٌّدْنَى (they chose (for themselves) the goods of this low life) "This, by Allah, is an evil generation, وَرِثُواْ الْكِتَـبَ (which inherited the Book) after their Prophets and Messengers, for they were entrusted with this job by Allah's command to them. Allah said in another Ayah, فَخَلَفَ مِن بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ أَضَاعُواْ الصَّلَـوةَ (Then, there has succeeded them a posterity who neglect the Salah (the prayers).) 19:59 Allah said next, يَأْخُذُونَ عَرَضَ هَـذَا الاٌّدْنَى وَيَقُولُونَ سَيُغْفَرُ لَنَا (They chose the goods of this low life saying: "(Everything) will be forgiven to us.") They wish and hope from Allah, while deceiving themselves, وَإِن يَأْتِهِمْ عَرَضٌ مِّثْلُهُ يَأْخُذُوهُ (And if (again) the offer of the like came their way, they would (again) seize them.) Nothing stops them from this behavior, for whenever they are given an opportunity in this life, they will consume regardless of it being allowed or not." As-Suddi said about Allah's statement, (Then after them succeeded an (evil) generation) until, وَدَرَسُواْ مَا فِيهِ (and they have studied what is in it (the Book).) "Every time the Children of Israel appointed a judge, he used to take bribes. The best ones among them held a counsel and took covenants from each that they would not take bribes. However, when one of them would take bribes in return for judgment and was asked, `What is the matter with you; you take a bribe to grant judgment', he replied, `I will be forgiven.' So the rest of his people would admonish him for what he did. But when he died, or was replaced, the one who replaced him would take bribes too. Therefore, Allah says, if the others (who admonished him) would have a chance to loot this world, they will take it."' (Was not the covenant of the Book taken from them that they would not say about Allah anything but the truth) thus, admonishing them for this behavior. Allah took a pledge from them that they would declare the truth to people and not hide it. Allah said in another Ayah, وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَـقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَـبَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ وَلاَ تَكْتُمُونَهُ فَنَبَذُوهُ وَرَآءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَاشْتَرَوْاْ بِهِ ثَمَناً قَلِيلاً فَبِئْسَ مَا يَشْتَرُونَ ((And remember) when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture to make it known and clear to mankind, and not to hide it, but they threw it away behind their backs, and purchased with it some miserable gain! And indeed worst is that which they bought) 3:187. Ibn Jurayj said that Ibn `Abbas said about the Ayah, (Was not the covenant of the Book taken from them that they would not say about Allah anything but the truth), "Their claim that Allah will forgive the sins they keep committing without repenting from them." (And the home in the Hereafter is better for those who have Taqwa Do not you then understand) Encouraging them to seek Allah's tremendous reward and warning them against His severe torment. Allah says here, `My reward and what I have are better for those who avoid prohibitions, abandon lusts and become active in the obedience of their Lord.' (Do not you then understand) Allah says' Do not these people, who preferred this life instead of what is with Me, have any sense to prohibit them from their foolish and extravagant ways' Allah then praises those who adhere to His Book, which directs them to follow His Messenger Muhammad , (And as to those who hold fast to the Book) adhere to it, implement its commands and refrain from its prohibitions, وَأَقَامُواْ الصَّلَوةَ إِنَّا لاَ نُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُصْلِحِينَ (and perform the Salah, certainly We shall never waste the reward of those who do righteous deeds.)

Nothing wrong with feeling deep emotion when we read the bible. I cry every time I read about Abraham and Sarah sending away haggar and Ishmael. It makes me cry hard to think of being a parent or a child in that position. That takes some serious faith and trust to send away your child. And poor Haggar must have been terrified not knowing how to provide for him. And then there is Ishmael. I cant imagine how hurt he must have felt to have his father send him away. I know it was all for a purpose. But that doesnt mean it didnt hurt. It hits me in my gut every time

I’ve been listening to the Bible project for a few years. I certainly wouldn’t say I agree with everything I see or hear but the statement you made about them is not fair. I’m curious how much of the material you listen to or watch how much of your comment is coming from somebody’s critique of them. It’s clear from watching the video above they taught God’s sovereignty working through the evil of Joseph’s brothers to bring about a good. I don’t wanna carry on some argument about it, but if you’re gonna attack somebody and their validity you need to do your research a little bit better.

@@MultiTacs Bull Feces. They may not focus on those things, but where they are found in the Bible, they include it it is a significant portion of what they are covering. That said, they do tend to skimp on the nitty details. I, in particular, would like them to include more of the cultural, or real world, context. Like when they point out the path of Jesus Christ in the Gospels... Particularly the path up to Palm Sunday.

Something that just hit me when you were talking about Abraham and Isaac: There's the sequence where God asks Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as a test of faith. Abraham, despite his grief over the idea, is willing to go ahead and do it. Could that event have been God's way of foreshadowing what he was going to do with his own son? Could God have been obliquely saying that he, too, was willing to make a personal sacrifice for the greater good? I never realized it until now, but the Abraham/Isaac event feels like it was the first omen of the Crucifixion.
@authenticmaniac
@authenticmaniac 10 жыл бұрын
Yes actually it is quite a foreshadowing of God doing the same thing, Abraham had total faith in our Father and Isaac didn't backed out from it even though he was confused at what he was doing. So if you look at Abraham he is like the human version of our God and Isaac is like Jesus, our Father wanted to sacrifice Jesus from the start but He had to wait at the right time for it.

There are many other parallels about Jesus in the Old Testanent: God washing humans cause of sin through a flood; lamb's blood saving the first born sons of the Israelites from dying in Egypt; Jonah inside a fish for 3 days; pure blood animal sacrifice; israelites 40 year wandering in the desert and falling into sin vs Jesus wandering in the desert for 40 days but wasn't tempted by Satan himself.... amazing ain't it?

Jordan Cookie Genesis 22:2 - God tells Abraham to go to the land of "Moriah" to sacrifice Isaac. II Chronicles 3:2 - Solomon begins construction of the temple on "Mt. Moriah", showing that basically Moriah and Jerusalem are the same place. God stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son. Abraham called the place, "The Lord WILL provide" (future tense), even though God already provided (past tense) a ram. 2000 years later God provided another lamb, His own Son, to be sacrificed on that same mountain.

Are you guys sure it’s Jacob/Israel that came up with that plan? 🤔 It’s important to mention that this is just a brief overview/a little sstory board outline at the beginning and end, and I think it would be very beneficial for viewers if you used a more humble and curious tone. A good example is the guy from The show, “Following the Messiah”. His tone is very genuine and he tries to just restate what it says in the Bible. This keeps him from adding and subtracting. And his curious tone leaves you wanting to learn more. Just a thought 😊

+Vanessa R. no one can fully understand the books and ideas found in the new covenant without, at least, a working knowledge of the Previous covenants. they are all linked and are a foreshadowing of the New Covenant. algebra is meaningless without arithmetic and mathematics.

+Vanessa R. that is true, but the bible is a continuing narrative, the story of creation, fall and redemption. Mathew makes many allusions to, and quotes from Torah and the writings. which can be confusing if one has no knowledge of what came before. Paul again makes lots of references to the Torah and the writings, and without knowledge of the redemption story leads to misunderstanding Pauls statements.

Please explain the part where you say Adam and Eve were hiding from each other... my reading suggests they were hiding from God, Himself...and He was gracious enough to call out to them, full well knowing what would happen without His grace and warning, in that His glory would basically fry them since they've now broken away from His covering.... Thank you for explaining where I should find the information about them avoiding each other....

That's an interesting question. I think they may have been hiding their nakedness both from each other and from God. In Genesis 3:7, Adam and Eve realize that they are naked and start to cover themselves (presumably hiding their bodies from each other?). In the next verse they hear God walking in the garden and try to hide from Him.

Actually Jacob was destined to inherit the blessing (Gen 25:23 "the older shall serve the younger") but when Rebekah didn't see this happening she took matters into her own hands (sound familiar? 🙄) and told Jacob to lie to his father. I often wonder what the world would be like if Sarah had trusted God at his word and even here too with Rebekah.

But Isaac was in the line of Christ through Sarah & Abraham, not her concubine who had the 1st son. Plus Abram was told he and his wife Sarah would bare a son. Not he and any other women. When God is this specific, it's wise to pray attention to the details. Abrams faith was weak & Sarah was barron, so listened to his wife instead of trusting the Almighty God. We cannot do the work we're called too, outside God working it out in us> Its HIS WAY, not our own flesh. When we wait patiently for the blessings, it's worth the waiting for the promises of God. Trying to do something without God to fulfill a promise from God, will never be that sweet fulfillment. We can do nothing on our own to fulfill our ordained purpose. Nothing.

I like how God is always telling Abraham and fam "I have blessed you so go be a blessing to others." Abraham also shows a ton of humility at times. He has the biggest tent with all the animals. When landed was gifted to him to bury his wife he insisted on buying it from his friend and they wound up in this back and forth argument that ended up with Abraham face down at the man's feet begging to buy the land from the man.

Yes, Ishmael(pbuh) is very important. God Himself talks about how important the first-born is: "He must acknowledge the son of his unloved wife as the firstborn by giving him a double share of all he has. That son is the first sign of his father’s strength. The right of the firstborn belongs to him."[Deut. 21:17] God has truly honored Ishmael with a "double portion" by sending His last and most important messenger, the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), through him into this world.

This is a really beautiful thing. Thank you sincerely. I do have a question, why skip over the prophecies about Yeshua, the Messiah? For the meaning of life is to love Jesus Christ! Genesis 28? Jacob anoints a rock(acts 4:11,psalm 188:22) that he calls a pillar for the house of God(Isaiah 28:16, Colossians 2:9), where also the gate(John10:9) of heaven is? Then what Jacob's prophecies concerning Jesus in Genesis 49? Much love. Keep up the good work.

+Kara McGowen I'm sorry to say but you don't make any sense since the old testament points to Jesus and it is not a Christian prophecy but about the Messiah who would save people from their sins through His death and resurrection by faith in Him. Jesus is the Jews Messiah as well as the whole worlds...to leave Jesus out is like to build a house with out any foundation...I bet you wouldn't like to live in a house like that right? The Bible with out talking about Jesus is void meaning it won't save you according to John 5:39 "You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! (Jesus)

+Kara McGowen The Bible in these passages clearly states that Jesus died for the sins of the world and that He is the Messiah of Jews and Gentles alike. 4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
