I just witnessed the solar eclipse earlier this afternoon. I live in the path of totality. Once the moon completely covered the sun & we were able to view it for a few minutes without the glasses, besides feeling awe, this song immediately came to mind. I had to listen to it it again. I sang it years ago in my church's choir, & it has always been a favorite. "When I gaze into the night sky and see the work of his fingers, the moon and stars suspended in space, oh what is man..." Magnificent.
@anitamoore43577 ай бұрын
During the eclipse today, this was the anthem that came to my mind and out of my mouth. All of the commentators I listened to today in Texas and others along the path of Totality talked about how the clouds covered the sky until the exact moment of Totality and then as if they were ripped open, there was the total eclipse in all of its glory. I also experienced this sitting on my front porch ... clouds and then majesty and glory revealed. I almost could hear God say, "THIS... is who I AM". Please read Psalm 8 as a reference point for this song.

This was the first hymn I fell in love with when I just became a believer in 1986. A gentleman at my job handed me a little casette tape with music from his chuch's choir and I must have worn it out listening to it over and over again. The way I began to think about whether there was a God or not was a night when my parents came to visit from out of town so my mom and I slept in my bed under a window, right before I fell asleep my mother (who was a beliver and had been praying for me ) began to talk about the stars we could see and how it must have been marvelous the way God made all that is in the skies. I began to almost see with my mind's eye what seemed to be the formation of planets and constellations as I fell asleep. From that night I began my search and found Jesus!! Or, shoudl I say, He found me. Praise the Lord I found this song performed so beautifully by this choir, it sounds exactly like the one I heard so many times so many years ago. I believe it was a baptist church in San Antonio TX that had was on that long lost cassette tape. I played it for my husband as I heard it for the first time now and it brought us both to tears. Thank you Jesus for giving this talent to people, to write such a song and for these beautiful voices to perform it so magnificentrly. God bless you, the director, the pastor of that church, all that attend there. Our God reigns!!!!

When I was in a liturgical choir member , this is one of the hardest piece aside from the “ HALLELUJAH” Too much high the notes specially I belong to Soprano 1. But believe me when u know how to feel this song and sing this with all ur heart... it’s like when all together blend their voices, it’s like 1 voice singing. And every time we sang this song, it never fails me to make me cry... with all my heart and soul...I GLORY THE NAME OF GOD ABOVE ALL.🙏

You have given man a crown of glory and honor, And have made him a little lower than the angels. You have put him in charge of all creation: The beasts of the field The birds of the air, The fish of the sea. Oh, what is man? (oh, what is man?) Oh, what is man that you are mindful of him? O Lord, our God the majesty and glory of your name Transcends the earth and fills the heavens. O Lord, our God; little children praise You perfectly, And so would we. And so would we. Alleluia! This is one of my favorites. A few years back, I was in Utah (Natural Bridges Nat’l Monument) in the dead of night. It is the darkest of dark skies. No light pollution. You could look up and see the Milky Way blazing across the sky. You could see Andromeda galaxy with a naked eye. And this song kept playing in my head over and over. I honestly cannot comprehend how one could look up into the night sky and see “the works of [His] fingers” and deny the existence of God. The night sky and indeed all creation SCREAMS out the existence of God.

One of the mist moving pieces to ever be sung. I was moved to tears as the choir began to sing the phrase "Alleluia, Alleluia". I especially enjoyed the expressions on many of choir members. There was worship being shared by the joy and passion expressed in their faces. The young, male tenor featured several times and center screen at the end was especially great in his facial expressions and presentation of the message. The choir was awesome over all with great sound and dynamics. It blessed my spirit as I know it gave great glory to God.

We should not criticize the message of our Lord, especially when it doesn't meet 'our' expectations in choral deliveries. I truly believe the content of this piece is right on target with its message........how can we, mere humans, stand in the presence of Almighty God and not cower down in reverential fear? We must sing Alleluia! to the King of Kings and nothing less!

Oh, the whole "it's ok that it sucks if it's for the Lord" way of thinking, eh? Nope, sorry. It's that kind of thinking and excuse making that got choirs kicked out of the church in the first place.
@terrillwhite785 жыл бұрын
Does God not deserve nothing less than the VERY best? The sacrifices presented to God were without spot and without blemish. Just because it is "church music" doesn't mean that it's ok to not sing correctly.
@j.l.m.69544 жыл бұрын
@@ohmusicsweetmusic this is correct. Are we okay with a slovenly, unprepared message from the man of God? Then why do we not put everything in decency and order as the Lord Himself, to the best of our ability? Before the temple was consecrated 200,000 singers, and 200,000 instrumentalists practiced for years before being able to step in to play and sing. We must pray and prepare, worship but also work in music. If Christ gave me his best, should I not give him mine, in all life including my music offerings to him? Yes there is being led of the Spirit, but when Paul spoke to Timothy of preaching, he admonished him to study to show himself approved unto God. Although not directly to a musician or singer, I think the principle is there as well, to do everything as unto the Lord for his pleasure and glory. Now I agree not all a choir or all the folks in churches need a music degree to sing for the Lord but there should be both heartfelt preparation as well as musical practice. All this though stems from a love of the Lord. Alright I’m getting off my soap box. 😁

@andrewwyffels10003 жыл бұрын
Southwest Baptist Church (in OKC) has a great music ministry! Their choir alone is the size of some smaller congregations and both they and the congregation really know how to sing with conviction and purpose. I found them searching for good, congregational recordings of my favorite hymns, as it's so nice to be able to pull up some real (traditional) worship music at the end of a long day! (I'm an IFB from the Minneapolis, MN area and their church is so similar to mine it's uncanny! But it's great someone from Southwest Baptist uploaded a ton of those videos for people's worship and edification, as even a lot of churches with great music ministries tend not to publish much online.) They'd definitely be worth a visit, even if it's a bit of a drive! I definitely know which church I'll be visiting if I'm ever in the OKC area!
