Omg! I’m a pianist who picked up guitar about 3 years ago. Did lessons for a while and memorized the basic open chords along with a couple of barred chords but always struggled to understand the layout of the notes for guitar. My instructor started me off memorizing pentatonic scales but I felt like I was just memorizing hand shapes and playing them up and down the neck. Actually having someone sit down and show exactly where each note in the C major scale is located just blew my mind and made a puzzle piece click into place. I feel like the patterns suddenly make so much more sense now that I have the reference of C major to contextualize the things my instructor was trying to get me to understand. Thank you! I actually want to try improving my guitar skills now.

You are a really good teacher. Your message at the end about HOW to learn by taking information in little by little is true. I hope others understand how the brain works and that this is the strat to learning the fastest. I found you through your tutorial on Banana Pancakes by J.J. Johnson, and the method of learning you described is how I've been practicing. I watched 5 minutes of the video and then spent some time practicing. The next day I came back to watch the same video for another 5 minutes and built up the song some more. I'm learning it so I can play while my girlfriend sings. So far, I know the intro, verse and chorus, but it's not smooth. I still need to learn the bridge and the last part. You are an amazing teacher. I like your humor a lot, it provides good breaks throughout the videos. I'm grateful you're making this music theory series because I want a deeper understanding of music and my instrument. It WILL make myself and others learn faster and communicate better with other musicians. Thank you, I look forward to being your student :D

Hello uncle Stuart, I just wanted to mention that your approach of teaching only tid bits (I definitely used that incorrectly) of music theory information is actually a great idea because once I was watching a "memorize the fretboard" video and it was so packed with information that I just couldn't and ran away (that may and may not be true)

Finally! I think this is my gateway to finally starting to get into music theory (after 1.5 years since I started). Especially precious that it's you since you are one of the best teachers I came across for learning songs (ang techniques behind them)! btw, I liked your approach for this video and what you intend to do. With such a vast thing, doing bit by bit while still going through the right order of things should be good! There are so many videos on music theory, but that plurality makes it extra hard to know where to start. Even if I tried, it may be too advanced (and it most often ends up in a backlog of videos to go back to (I never do)). Your style should be enough to keep me glued to my screen/speakers even with music theory!
