I know it's not their target market but I would love it if Haas made a mill to complete with the chinese made cnc mills for the home gamers and entry level mills in the 20k range to give the tormach crowd better options for their start ups. Something like a 10k 3 to 5 hp bt30 spindle, linear ways, atc and 4th axis capability that can run on 220 single phase. I much rather support American companies like Haas.

makun16 just look at some used haas machines. A used mininill can be had for less than 20k, can hog out material with big tools and will be more robust than a tormach. Run it on a phase converter if you have to and you still be better off imo. That's the way in going to go if not bigger if i have the space and power.

WCGwkf I've never seen one for less than 32k used online. Even one that is 10 years old are priced near new prices. I must be looking at the wrong place. Having ran mini mills and vf3s, they are very nice machines with a well thought out control and lots of 3rd party support.

makun16 look around more I've found some super cheap. You have to keep in mind the prices on the haas website are starting prices that don't include much that you normally see on machines. The ones you see may have a SS spindle and other options that don't come standard and quickly drive up the cost. 10 years old may still be too new and you might have to look at early 2000s or even a late 90s machine. If your only purpose is a hobby and not real precision parts for production they would do you just fine. I've done some browsing and you could get one like that for under 20k. The newer ones with the next Gen controls with gray doors will probably run at least 30. A small startup shop I worked at had a really old one and a new one both vf2 and the old one was running parts just fine

Why does a cm1 start at 60k? Does it come fully optioned? Costs almost the same as a VF3

The standard 30k spindle really shoots the price up. These machines are suited toward more the medical industry.

Yes, it should be 25k regardless the tiny spindle!

WCGwkf - Nearly every component on a CM-1 is unique and used only on the CM-1. That, combined with the number of CM-1s we build, is the reason the machine is priced the way it is. We build so many more VF-3s, and many parts on a VF-3 are also shared across the entire VF line that it allows us to price them lower. Hopefully that answers your question. Haas Automation

@@haasautomation I would love to own this machine. HAAS if you could bring it down to $30k by putting in a slower spindle then I'll purchse 3 all day.

Cool machine but, honestly would have been much nicer to just stick the iso20 spindle in a mini mill frame which is already a pretty small machine. It would probably even cost less since there would be no need to create a whole new manufacturing line.

Ok Daniel Muchado, you are in luck because I also use PowerMill every day. What you need to do is create a hole/feature for the holes that you want to threadmill. The holes should be the tap-drill diameter. Then, model your threadmill tool. Then, make a drilling program, and in the drilling tab, select "threadmilling". It might be set to something like single peck or deep drill by default, but that is where you select thread milling. Then you can set your pitch and number of turns and passes. Then in the "thickness" tab, you put a negative thickness in the radial stock to leave so that the tool actually engages the part, usually -.03 is safe to start with unless you are threadmilling something smaller than 1/2-13. Then through trial and error using the actual bolt you are thread milling for, you slowly dial out the stock to leave until the fit is right. Then you can write down that number for later use, but keep in mind it is only for that exact threadmill.

Good eye, everyone who noticed. Yes there is a small amount of deflection in the part and workholding, we think the part wasn’t quite tight. The deflection is not in the machine or rotary. Being a trade show demo we’re a little more lenient than we would be if this was an actual part needing to hold tolerance!
