Werner just knows. His notes to Richard at starting around the 8 minute mark are beautifully conveyed and Richard made the adjustment immediately. BRILLIANT!

Completely in love with this documentary, I keep coming back to it. I adore the work of Herzog and the musicians but really, the way Richard Thompson can take a nuanced essence of a feeling from Werner and improvise something profoundly moving only to redo it with a requested vague modification and keep it to 34 seconds is astonishing. Richard Thompson tries to joke and laugh to hide his genius but there's a spiritual connection with nature and magic when he plays like this.

It would be really interesting to see if Tim had been doing this today with the advancement in technology, could imagine he'd have felt less lonely but then would that have outweighed the negative put down, would he have cracked if the responses were mostly direct attacks
