It’s certainly a striking parallel: when I Am Legend filmed, the production went to extreme lengths to empty out parts of Manhattan for short stretches. But during the early days of COVID-19, as many of us saw, large portions of New York were suddenly-and eerily-quiet on their own. City streets were nearly empty, Times Square looked abandoned, and the usual nonstop traffic was replaced by silence. The unthinkable became a reality without a production crew or special permits. Of course, real life during the pandemic wasn’t apocalyptic in the way it’s portrayed in the film, but the surreal images of deserted landmarks definitely echoed those behind-the-scenes stories of painstaking efforts to create an “abandoned” cityscape for I Am Legend. Sometimes, life imitates art in ways no one could have predicted.

who would have thought that NYC would ever look abandoned like this 13 years after the making of this movie? They could have easily filmed a part 2 during the early stages of covid. It was so eerie and surreal to experience it in real life. The city literally stood still while everyone was locked down, and its scary knowing that humanity could easily be wiped out if a super pathogen was engineered to do so. They say that life imitates art, and in this case, sadly, it most certainly did! Hold onto your loved ones & keep the light alive.

Yup. I came here to say this. We lived in Manhattan during COVID and the streets were eerily empty and quiet. We quite literally said that it looked like "I Am Legend" during the early days of the pandemic.

Maaaaaaan I loved the movie. Except for the God sh*t. I saw the theatrical ending and it was just so wrong. The alternative ending was so much better, I read the ending in the book and that was absolutely brilliant.
