A little update for Supergiant fans. We are currently working on episode #05 of Hades: Developing Hell. With the studio working remotely due to the pandemic we are conducting our interviews via webcam and complimenting that with footage filmed by the interviewees themselves. We won't have a set release date for this episode for a little while as the situation with Covid 19 is pretty fluid and we want to make sure we release with it appropriate context. But rest assured you'll be hearing more from the studio on Noclip in the future.

Pyre is one of my 5 favorite games ever. I feel like it's probably the least appreciated of Supergiant's games - Bastion was beloved and was their 1st attempt of how to make a game, almost everybody who's played Transistor I've seen loves it, and Hades is becoming a very beloved roguelite, but Pyre always seems to get pushed to the side. I adore the high fantasy aesthetic along with your lovable crew and the incredibly unique gameplay. Thank you for finally getting around to it Noclip!
@Taliesin_
@Taliesin_ 4 жыл бұрын
Pyre was a really charming game that I just can't help but feel overstayed its welcome. The cyclical nature of the rites and the fact that you lost one of your (often favorite) characters every cycle meant that the latter parts of the game felt increasingly repetitive and barren. They really dragged, even though the studio took steps to triage this by truncating them. Perhaps a playthrough where I lost every rite would have felt more lively - but then the ending, I imagine, wouldn't have been very satisfying instead. Still, fantastic music and great art as always. It might be my least favorite Supergiant game, but that doesn't mean it was anywhere near a bad one.

Yeah, I think a lot of people looked at the sports mechanics and/or visual novel aspects and decided that it wasn't for them. Which is a shame, because while I wasn't sold on the sports element alone, everything surrounding it really blew me away. The art design, the characters, the music, the way that the tournament culminates in choices that affected the story emotionally, as well as the game mechanically, etc. It's one of my favorite games as well now, and I never would have expected that from watching the trailer alone.

What Greg said about it being better if a game isn't for everyone is really so true and more devs need to take that to heart. Pyre is my least favorite game of theirs just because I did not gel with the gameplay, I've always hated sports games, etc. But it's such a well thought out version of that type of game with interesting mechanics, and the story and characters are so good, that I was still driven to finish it anyway. And Greg was also spot on about it being his best work. Pyre may not be my favorite game of theirs, but it's definitely the one that best shows off his writing skills. If Greg wrote a novel I have no doubt it'd be very good and worth reading. Just be true to yourself and make the best game you can, however niche and unusual it is. You'll be surprised how many people will play it anyway or even be fully converted. Hades is the only run-based game I've really liked. People know quality and craft when they see it, even if it's being put towards something that isn't their (nba) jam.

Pyre is one of my favorite games ever. It's one of the few games that made me seriously think whether I should really try to win without gameplay incentives but with its story. Many games have these "moral" dilemmas, most of them aren't even real dilemmas, they just either reward you for being "good" anyway which makes the choice real easy or the gameplay rewards the "bad" choice but doesn't have any real consequences either way so you don't care. But with Pyre... I had won all my rites before Pamitha's ascension rite. I didn't want to have any losses that run but Pamitha's dialog... my hands were not giving it 100%... eventually it just made me throw the match. I lost deliberately. Not because of gameplay reasons, Pamitha wasn't one of my go-to star players or anything. Just because I didn't want her to feel any worse than she already did. I also like that the game, true to their intentions of making losses not devastating, doesn't really give a factual reason why ascension would be so much better than the exile in the first place. If anything, the land they were exiled from is very troublesome, which is why you're working to change the system with Sandalwood... You're only home with your friends and loved ones. Bound together, strands in a braid 'til the end. What a wonderful experience.

I wouldn't mind at all to have an adventure/action/rpg game by playing with The Scribes. Their feats were so amazing, I can see the amazing boss battle that any of the Titans would provide! It's quite rare for some games to leave you emotionally wrecked, and at the same time you're awe-stricken for just simply investing the time to play it. The graphics, gameplays, and the designs are always a perfecto rating; but what really dragged me really deep in to their games is their narrative, always. I especially love the story of Pyre, how the story is perfectly plotted and how its characters are constructed and play so well within the narrative. This is why I love Supergiant Games, they never fail to give us a good shit game, and they never fail to make us cry (or give that heart-wrenching feeling at least). Edit: I forgot to mention how epic and superb the soundtracks are, in all of their games.

I started Pyre fully expecting to be disappointed by it. Surely Supergiant couldn't get a hat trick, that would be crazy. The weird premise and sports-like gameplay will doom it. I WAS SO WRONG. What Greg is talking about around 7:00-8:00 really resonates. Sometimes the main design goal of a game doesn't bear fruit until the game is practically complete. This game is very near and dear to my heart. I was really surprised how little reviews it had on steam compared to SG’s other games. It’s such a beautiful game with incredible art, music, and an interesting narrative. I think everyone should play Pyre.

Pyre is the 1st supergiant game I played and it instantly became one of my all time favourite games. I look forward to now playing all their previous and future games. Pyre is a true masterpiece that takes full advantage of gaming as a medium. I can only hope it inspires many current and future game designers.

I just started playing Pyre last week... Every game from Supergiant is better than the last and Bastion set a damn high standard. Yet these crazy people manage to beat it every single time. The art, writing, story, characters, music, voice acting... everything in this game would be the standout feature of any other game... yet they are all present here in this one masterpiece of a game. Just unbelievable.

Pyre was so fucking good. I know it wasn't as well received as the prior Supergiant games, but I hope it did well for them.

Jen Zee said she'd spend another 2 years fleshing out their world of Pyre. That would be amazing the lasting impact of that game for me was the world itself and wanting to more about it and explore the environment and meet the characters and learn the Lore. The style was so unique and intriguing. I'd love a proper rpg in this world.

I did the same, and it was _such_ a mistake. The gameplay is absolutely fun enough to support it's other qualities, and it's not quite like any sports game out there (though obviously it's very basketball-esque, I think)

Pyre fits right into the type of fantasy that I adore - the creativity, the variety, such new foreign concepts that don't stick to traditional fantasy tropes. It's beautiful, engaging and rich with lore. I appreciate so much the sheer variety in the races in appearance alone, not to mention the animations, bits and pieces of culture. I just finished playing it for the first time yesterday and I am definitely about to start my 2nd playthrough. I would love to see more of this world.

Thank you so much Danny and Noclip team for covering Supergiant like that !!! Their games have always been strong favourites of mine, and being able to learn more about the wonderful individuals and dynamics behind each of them is the best thing I could ask for honestly. Thank you Supergiant for doing what you do !!!

I’m at the final rite, and I’ve just beaten Oralech. Hedwyn says I should be the one to go. I had prepared for this. I had watched a playthrough of the entire game two years prior, after all. I knew this choice was coming. I was going to graciously accept, and return to the Commonwealth, free of the Downside...but I couldn’t. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. After all that had happened, and the time I had spent with this work of art called a game, I couldn’t bring myself to deny Hedwyn his freedom. That was the moment that solidified Pyre as my favorite game of all time. When I truly felt like I was in the position of the Reader. No other game has managed to do that. I don’t feel like I’m Link. Or Geralt of Rivia. Or the Dragonborn. Or Batman. Yet Pyre managed to do that. I cried my eyes out as Bound Together played.

Pyre is easily my favorite supergiant game and I think the game with the strongest and most unique vision executed excellently. There are many critiques I can make for this game more so than the other supergiant games but just for that aspect alone it will always still be my favorite game there is absolutely no game fully like this.

Pyre, is in my opinion, the best work supergiant has put out. I think I could write a thousand words or so about how that game does so much other games dont, and in doing so, lead to real connections with players.

It's great that you're getting every story you can out of Supergiant, but I'd love to see more about how *other* devs approach development. Indie studios can be really interesting, but what about how a massive Ubisoft title is made, coordinating efforts from studios across the globe? Even talking with one of those studios would be something new.

I got to know Supergiant Games trough Hades, I was lucky to buy it on Steam when it released there and got a key for Pyre, never regreted activating it and playing the game, by far one of my favourite games... I just wish it had more content/story, maybe a DLC or a continuation. Well, while I hope for such, I keep playing and enjoying the great games Supergiant Games make, thanks for the hard work!
