my cousin introduced me to sekiro, as he thought i’d be good at it. i was already familiar with the souls games, but ive never gotten very far with them, fun as they were. Sekiro was the first game where things started to click. It was the first fromsoft game i beat. Then i went back to all the other games I owned and beat them too (except for elden ring.) Im grateful for sekiro’s existence, and it has made me a diehard fromsoft fan.

The reveal trailer is 100% gameplay and actual in-game cutscenes. Sekiro doesn’t need deception to shine, because the combat system is the best in the industry.

Sekiro broke me many, many times. I earned my platinum trophy, but it was certainly the hardest game I've ever played and beaten. I screamed like a barbarian at my TV when I finally killed Sword Saint Isshin and Demon of Hatred. Still, the idea of ever playing it again just instills fear in me like no other. I can't do it again.

Sekiro was the first game to be initiated by Miyazaki when he became CEO of the company, leading From Software into an ungoing era of new projects that both differenciate themselves and take inspirations from previous games. On that alone I love Sekiro.

This channel is like old school gamer guides that walk you through a game but it dives much deeper and provides a more comprehensive view of the game's development, history, and impact. Keep doing what you do. You are a king in a league of your own compiling these interviews and the research that goes into each video you make. I'm sure Miyazaki watches these and views it as a love letter from his fans to his team and all the work that went into making these beautiful, masterful games.

The best sword fighting in any game ever in my opinion. I don't know how this style hasn't been cannibalized to death by now. I know it wasn't unheard of before and I know that games like Stars Wars recently have used similar ideas but I expected it to be everywhere with new spins. It's so well done and engaging. This doesn't even begin to touch on everything else that makes the game a masterpiece.

Fully forgot that it was a thought that Sekiro at teaser launch was Bloodborne 2: "Shadows die twice" Really excited to learn more about this game. Sekiro was a hard one for me to jump into with it being fundamentally different from other souls games, but I consider that to be my fault going into it with that expectation. Hopefully, this will line it all up for me to appreciate the game more and enough that I can maybe one day give it another go and defeat the sword saint.

I didn't know Jackson and Livingstone had given him the award personally. That's so cool! I'm happy for Miyazaki there. I'm still pro for difficulty options, because I think that if you're meant to love a game, then after you beat it on easy mode, you'll replay it with the difficulty up. Just like how people beat [Insert Souls Game Here] normally once, then come back to beat it but this time without summons or consumables. It's not a super big deal to me and I don't think it's a subject that we're going to figure out a solution that pleases everybody with in the youtube comments, I just wanted to present a viewpoint and engage the algorithm a little. Excellent job as usual!

@SaintKines

It's understandable why people want the difficulty option. I don't blame or begrudge anyone their tastes personally. I only oppose pressuring the maker of the games and the games fanbase to conform to a mechanic that is present in nearly every other game. There are more than one reason people have for not wanting the option there but mine is that if it's not there nobody can be tempted by it when they are frustrated temporarily. Me and others are potentially weak to the temptation to use it even though we know we'll regret it in the long run. Dark Souls and other Fromsoft games filled a giant void that was missing in the gaming world and Miyasaki has been completely vindicated with the success of "Souls Like" influence.

2:37:10 talking about Sekiro being single player, there's this moment in the video: "...bosses can be designed with a single player in mind. Yasuhiro Kitau commented on this stating 'When creating these play spaces we don't have to consider how players will interact with each other in these maps or how they might exploit the space through cooperation. This freedom allows us to focus on the player experience and fully exploit the lack of restrictions associated with creating a multiplayer-based game, allowing our imagination to run wild in these places.'" I found this VERY interesting since most players seem to be allergic to summons (human or otherwise) and so many times people say that the bosses are designed with a single player in mind and are completely trivialized (LOL) and broken by having more than one target for a boss, despite ever since Demon's Souls, co-op has existed. NPC summons are a staple of Souls. Sometimes the games (pretty much) force it upon you. Bosses in co-op (npc or otherwise) get buffed to accommodate the change. But yeah sure, it "wasn't" designed for multiple fighters against a boss. Sure. Reason I'm worked up about this is how it seems to be commonly accepted by the player base at large that summoning is for pathetic losers who need an easy mode. As if it wasn't blatantly obvious that Elden Ring and Lies of P especially are clearly balanced around using the tools provided, including Spirit Ashes and the Specter.
@dondonrv
@dondonrv Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing such an insightful message! To be honest, I played 90% of Elden Ring with a summon, and I don't think I ever defeated the Blood Starved Beast without Alfred (after playing Bloodborne multiple times and being my favorite game!) I think players can play the game however they want, as long as they are enjoying the experience, and are playing within the bounds of the game and using everything the game provides them.

You now have such a good undestanding of Fromsoft studio. After "The Making of Elden Ring" will you make video-prediction about next project? You are probably have some idea when or even what to expect
@dondonrv
@dondonrv Жыл бұрын
Oh..yes, I have a clear understanding of the studio (I guess the right words are "understanding of Miyazaki"). However, I think video prediction of next projects might be best done by other content creators. Honestly, I can't wait to have the channel move exclusively into game design and that means we will be in a time-bubble that is detached from what is happening "currently" (The channel will not be reacting to anything happening outside...even if they are new FromSoftware games) In exchange for that "currentness", my audience will get hyper-focused videos on game design that could not be found elsewhere, ultimately leading to the goal of the channel that is also unique on its own (all of these videos about making games, game design, game direction...should be leading to something for sure..)

However, loving pretty much everything from software puts out I gave it a try. Turns out it had some of the Best heart pounding, high octane, edge of my seat combat I have played in a video game in a long time. It probably ranks as my second favorite from soft game next to Elden Ring being first bloodborne being third. So before Elden ring came out it was actually number one for awhile.

Sekiro being so well loved gave me hope in gaming. Since then, more and more games have fallen into the trap of "handholding = inclusivity", to the point where it becomes annyoing (God of War: Ragnarok for example). As said in the video, you can have a really difficult game that has tons of accessibility options (more pronounced audio or visual cues, color blindness etc), especially in a game like Sekiro that doesn't punish you having slow reactions, it punishes you not paying attention. I do love Elden Ring, but as with the Souls series it has very abusable skills and magic and does not give the same sense of accomplishment as Bloodborne or Sekiro. I had to manually nerf myself by not using the strongest skills, spirit summons and co-op, and even then the only difficulty was found in bosses designed to be beaten with coop or spirits (Godskin duo etc). With Sekiro, every fight felt fair but challenging, and if it did not feel fair I had to contemplate what I'm doing wrong.

Your content is absolutely fantastic - in-depth and informative. Thank you so much for spoiling us FromSoft fans! 🙂 Honestly, Sekiro is stunning, but my least favourite FromSoft game (I'm a die-hard Fantasy girl!) but I'm still watching your documentary, for sure! Side note - I've never had the chance to play any of the King's Field games, but would definitely be interested to watch a documentary on those (even if just an all-in-one video.)

Thanks for making this documentary. I also hit a wall on Genichiro but I managed to defeat the game and eventually got platinum in PS4. Currently replaying it again on Xbox Series S. Also the 2 games mentioned at the end would be Elden Ring and other game. The other game could be Spellbound but this is still a rumor as far as I know (based on GLAR subreddit) and might not turn out to be true. Only time will tell.

All of these Making ofs are amazing. Well done, good Sir! On the topic of difficulty I would say that the idea that every game must be for everybody, so From Software games need easy modes/difficulty settings is ludicrous and brain dead. Not every thing needs to be for everybody. If it were, then it would be sludge, striped and dumbed down to the common denominator of nothing so that nobody would find anything not to their liking in it. And even then it would fail, because a thing with the substance of nothing is a huge turn of for a lot of people. To say Souls games need easy mode so that people who don't want to or can't learn to beat the game can beat the game is like saying horror games need a button to disable all the horror elements so that people who don't play horror games can play the horror game. Its like saying all the MMOs need to be offline single player games so that people who don't like MMOs can play the MMO. A lot of game journalists are an absolute ass cancer on the gaming industry.

I dont see how anyone could not like Miyazaki. The man is just so absolutely wholesome and humble. I cant help but smile any time i see him on stage. His smile and joy is just so pure at the golden joysticks. The man is just an amazing human

Miyazaki, Kojima, and Yoko Taro are the holy trinity of expressing unique feelings through game design alone. I wonder why Western developers struggle so much to transmit feelings in this way.

@@dondonrvThe mod is readily available on Nexus Mods and I think any Nvidia 3000 series or AMD 6000 series or newer cards could get a steady 120FPS at 1080p max settings or even higher. I bet a 3080 could get 120FPS at 4K.

@@robbieclark1784 How exactly do you install mods? I've thought about it for Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro. Do I have to shut down internet for Steam? There's also something about using an exe. file.

Even tho I never got to appreciate Sekiro, the Tenchu part of the documentary was pretty cool. Tenchu 2 was my favorite game from the PS1 era... I hope they remake Tenchu 1 & 2 someday, it would be cool if it was both in a single game, in chronological order (Tenchu 2, then Tenchu 1).

These are some of the best executed documentaries on From Software. Judging by your pace Elden Ring is coming soon. However, releasing that one might be a grave mistake… The game is not complete without its giant expansion. I get it. Everyone’s patience is wearing thin… waiting for that damn Shadow.

This video made me wanna come back to Sekiro to try to finish the last Gauntlets of Strength xD I left it alone since there is no reward when you finish it (and its damn hard, i tried many times but failed), but to think about that, may be it is the reward itself P/S: This series are great.
