So much Kiss history these days is either about paths alteady tread, or revisionist talking points dished out by Gene and Paul. These episodes about behind the scenes art and design are great, and a welcome change from the norm. Kudos

^should have started my comments ‘So much TALK about Kiss history I remember buying the Elder LP when it came out. The packaging, the way the album cover opened up to a gatefold, had a promo sticker ( I think I’m remembering this right ) that said ‘introducing Eric Carr’ were cool. If this album was a double album to be more explanatory, that might (?)have helped,but I don’t think Ace would have been able to hang on much longer in the recording process. If the album was shelved/unreleased to be released at a later date maybe would have been the way to go. So many ‘what ifs’! Musically I personally like ‘A World Without Heroes’, ‘The Oath’, and many other tracks. Paul,Gene,Eric,Ace all have places on the Elder where musically they play/sing some great parts. I admire them for going out on a limb and getting out of their comfort zone. As other Kiss fans have stated elsewhere, if there was no Elder, then perhaps Kiss would not have went back to their roots with ‘Creatures’

Elder is an excellent record. It's just an unfortunate victim of bad timing. If they would have shelved the record and waited a few years. MTV would have been massive by that time. They could have made time to get a budget/green light for the movie and/or maybe had some form of long-form video made for MTV.

Great information! It’s true there should have been characters somewhere on the Elder artwork to give listeners some kind of reference points. I had become a very casual Kiss fan at this point. I could tell their future was about to change. I tapped out when the took off the make up. It all seemed over to me.

At about the 15 minute mark, you guys are talking about album covers that didn’t feature the members. You mentioned Psycho Circus, but actually Animalize, Hot in the Shade, and Revenge had an image that wasn’t the band.

KISS had a New Member, New Costumes, and they decided to have NO PHOTOS of KISS in the album. In hindsight, that's not a good business model, and after seeing the great photos of the band that were taken, I'm surprised nobody pushed back on it at the time.

No. I have no contact with anyone on the KISS office. In fact, if I have to guess, they probably hate it. They don't like when too much information about their careers is discussed.

I appreciate Dennis' comments about not having the band"s picture on a soundtrack record but wouldn't it have been cool to have them sitting at the table, in partial shadow wearing monk's habits (think the pool scene from the Phantom movie....)?
