Danny Goldberg had been involved back as far back as Rock and Roll Over. He was involved with Led Zeppelin in the mid 70’s as well. He later became the head of Mercury records around the mid 90’s and suggested the band put their makeup back on. Goldberg generally is a well respected figure in the business.

Another amazing episode.. great childhood memories seeing that albumcover for the first time at the local recordstore… the innersleeve of that first copy I bought still has that stain on one of the lyrics: I was so into the music that first listen with headphones on that my chewinggum fell out of my mouth onto the innersleeve..

This series has been so great!! Imagine all KISS albums done in the Ken Kelly style. It would be fun just to see how many cool ideas could be made up using that style. Imagine every album done in that style. Claudio u should do this series on some WASP albums or Lizzy Borden albums. Always enjoyed those visually.

As far as the poster goes I I remember buying the record and being disappointed that I got a record they forgot to put a poster in. A few years later I remember reading an interview with Paul where he said the original idea for the cover was a picture of the band in street clothes with half their faces in makeup and half without. That was the picture used in the poster and it was released in a limited number of records in Japan.

Seriously?!? I've never heard of this story before. Are there any photos around? The 40th Anniversary vinyl is just being released (including the Japanese overleaf), but no poster in sight.

There was no poster or picture of half faces in makeup released in Japan. And Paul mentions that idea in his book as being an absurd suggestion, so that will give you an idea of what he thought of it. It never happened.

@@bdso9593 Neither Ultravox or Accept were on Polygram/Phonogram.....Ultravox was on Island, later moved to Chrysalis and Accept was on Epic....that is why you saw those videos🤓

I was hoping he knew about the photoshoot. There's all these rumors about Vinnie's body being pasted onto Paul's legs, mannequins with Paul or Vinnie's head pasted on, arms being moved around, etc. The only thing I know for sure is Vinnie was wearing a wig because he's admitted to that.

Just a quick question- how come you dislike KISS so much? Not being a jerk or anything, you just seem like they aren't your thing and dedicate a lot of time going after them, especially Paul. I know his voice is completely shredded at this point, but were you ever a fan previously? Bad Experience? Just wondering.

I’ve said this many times. The first album, was black and it simply showed what KISS is as far as their look. By Lick It Up, it was a complete juxtaposition of what they were, to what they are now. KISS, is now without makeup and it showed their faces without the makeup. It was night and day, ten years later.

Visually, I agree, but musically I don't. The first record is light rock and roll but Lick it up is a dark heavy metal record with most songs written in the diminished fifth.
