I've been seeing this disconnect between our current moral relativism and our traditional roots, premodernism and modernisms inception, as a dissociation. When something is dissociated it has an autonomous character that allows it to run amok. Liberalism is certainly without roots and it's showing as rampant nihilism and meaninglessness.
