This work of art, currently being exposed at the Venice Biennale leaves the spectator with food for thought. It certainly evoked a panoply of feelings in me. Most importantly pride that I am Maltese and in feeling that a team of Maltese artists and two foreign ones have together dared to get out of their comfort zone and give us contemporary and brutalist mixed together at their best. They used a very strong and precious metal to portray pain and suffering whilst at the same time giving the viewer a peaceful and pleasantly phonetic experience set in a sombre yet very appeasing background. There is certainly a lot of mysticity in there! The structure made me think and ask questions, it made me curious…isn’t that the raison d’etre of art after all? To make us reflect, interpret, try to give meaning and to behold and enjoy? Chapeau to the team and to the worksmanship involved in the setting up of such an interesting structure…the result is certainly an incredible fait accompli!!
