@westyraviz2 жыл бұрын
A sickening and shameful episode. Babangida merely wanted to kill those he didn’t like or trust. There is no way these innocent officers planned a coup. It’s one thing to execute a coup and fail, but this so-called coup didn’t even get to the execution stage, yet they were murdered by their colleagues. This was just a mop-up operation by Babangida and his acolytes to eliminate their rivals whom they were jealous of.

This a matter of conspiracy to commit coup, it is not up to an attempted coup, meaning there must be evidence of an agreement between the alleged plotters to commit treason / coup. At most , in the best legal jurisprudence any offence of conspiracy is extremely difficult to proof beyond all reasonable doubt. Going by the lack of evidence tendered by IBB government apart from personal issues, such as Vasta rivalry to IBB, one can conclusively argue that there are no compelling evidence to show that Vasta committed the offences as alleged. This matter should be revisited and reviewed by the government of Nigeria, those found culpable of this miscarriage of justice must face the law for the offences that they committed in retrospect. There are no timeline restrictions for the offence of murder, IBB should be arrested, investigated along with his enablers who executed the Vasta alleged coup plotters without any evidence apart from Vasta copping IBB as rival. What an unintelligent society where people can be executed with no evidence. This culture of impunity is prevalent in the north and now part of the lager Nigerian culture.

Interesting that you mentioned that then Col. Mamman Vatsa was the first to distance himself and his troops from the Dimka coup. Danjuma actually sent Babangida, an armoured officer to dislodge Dimka and other conspirators from the radio station from where they were making their coup broadcast. When IBB got there a funny thing happened as he actually went in there to have a conversation with Dimka without being shot himself. IBB then called Danjuma to report that he was having a conversation with Dinka. An infuriated Danjuma ordered him out of the station. It was only then that another aromured officer in the person of Major Chris Ugokwe opened up and finally sent Dinka packing. This paved the way for Obasanjo who went into hiding in Surulere to come out and become HOS. Could it be that IBB was not happen that Vatsa was the first to repudiate the Dimka coup? IBB knew something about that coup.

Clown 🤡 In May 1966, General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, Nigeria’s first military head of state, promulgated the infamous Decree No. 34 of 1966, the “unification decree.” The decree effectively did away with the federal system of government practiced by Nigeria since its independence from British colonial rule in 1960. In its place, the general instituted a unitary system of government as a way of discouraging “tribal loyalties and activities which promote tribal consciousness and sectional interests and which must give way to the urgent task of national reconstruction.” The decree suspended aspects of the Nigerian constitution and, with it, the military government arrogated to itself wide discretionary powers. Unknown to the general, the effects of this decree would reverberate well into Nigeria’s sixtieth year as an independent nation. . *It's a tragedy to the fate of this nation that the Igbo person has been in denial about the problem they created for this country since 1966. Instead, they play the victim. I no longer debate Nigerians on this issue. It has served me no good*
