Rcp 916 except he’ll never be able to shit in his man cave. First mistake. Second mistake no projector and wrap around couch for football season. Third mistake, all that insulation was waaayyy over bored when you didn’t pre route any vents. So unless he’s going to add like a hotel unit type of ac and heat. Or a unit that sits on the floor for ac that has duct that vents out side. Then a small wood stove would be cool, but he’d hafta place it outside and blow the air in. Which is still very possible. But when you’re tired working over time I don’t want to hafta build a fire before I can comfortably relax in my man cave. So I guess a fake electric fire place?? This is more like a kick ass out door room, with a shed attached. I would of done a raised roof and me a little loft with a bed up there. But as many times as he said budget and the amount he spent. He did great. Plus since it’s all wood, he could always plum water and a toilet later. Add a nice large roof on it when that one needs replacement then you could add your loft. Great work guy!

thank you for the video, only one point really the block at the foundation level the reason most havent used this isnt to do with the strength more frost protection. concrete block ie 3.5n/mm2 are mostly air water can ingress into pores and once frozen can expand and create larger voids this continues untill the block is completely screwed. if you use this method use 9Nmm2 block ie trench blocks instead at very least.

Interesting point. I'm on the verge of building my own garden bar/man-cave/she-shed (call it what you will) and am at the planning stage. I was thinking of mixing my own concrete and pouring it into recycled 10" dia exhaust ducting I've salvaged from my work's garage after a refit, then sitting and securing wooden joists on these as Angus has done, as opposed to using smaller prefab blocks. As a noob, would this be a better option? It should also sit better with local building regs under the 'non-permanent' structure laws rather than sitting the whole thing on a poured concrete base, which would also ramp up cost.

Michael Dickinson The roof description is here 6:32 I only used 6x2 roof joists. The 2x4s on top are just keeping the insulation in place and allow edging for the rubber roof. Hi, Yes there is battens before the cladding Theres some photos on this video that may help with this,kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYbSpWiQhc-WiNE I wanted my front cladding flush with the noggins between the roof joists at the front. All I did was put all the materials together to see how thick they were and how far the came out ie the hard board, the battens, and the cladding. I then took a measurement of this and made sure my noggins at the front were this far forward from the stud wall. i hope that explains it

Thank you for sharing. But one question, why not add a bathroom ? I know you said budget a lot. But you could’ve plumbed for a toilet and sink. Then installed the items later. Also you can actually claim this as a bedroom in your living sq ft. So great job, I like what you did. It’s insulated very well, but it will need a/c I hope you get a unit that sits on the ground and just vents out like dryer duct. You can pick up one used for probably 300$ that would cool that whole thing. Or if you had a bit extra to spend, you get one of them units that the fan hangs on the wall, it’s got a few lines that run out to the compressor and those are reasonable if you can install it yourself. And they have heat built in. Nice job

I've made a few plans (2 pictures) which I would like to show you, how can I contact you to send them across if you would be so kind to just briefly look at them? I have the following questions, when you have a spare moment: 1. Is a height of 2.2m sloping to 2.1m OK? 2. What is the purpose of a vapour barrier? Where do I put it? Where did you get yours from? 3. What product did you use to treat the wood sitting on the breeze blocks? 4. Would you recommend a "rubber EPDM roof"? 5. Looking at my drawings, can you see any obvious mistakes/problems? (to be sent if possible) Thank you so much! PS: my email is alanmarchal /at/ outlook.com
@AngusMcGregor7 жыл бұрын
You may have already started your build. here are my answers. 1. Yes 2.2m sloping to 2.1m should be okay. 2. The vapour barrier is a great way to extract moisture and help to avoid condensation on the inside that van lead to mould. put it just underneathe plaster board, on my other videos show where it is. 3. i just used a wood stain just to help longevity of the timber. 4. The rubber roof was really easy to use as it came in one piece. it was really heavy to lift onto the roof through. you can use other systems that are equally as good. 5. You can emial your drawing to me or ask a professional to check these.

HI Angus, for your base why didn't you use gravol base and raise the blocks? I figured you want proper drainage for the water and teh snow , I don't know where you live but does it snow ?
@AngusMcGregor4 жыл бұрын
Gordon Lam The blocks are set in sharp sand. I didn’t want to raise these too much as I wanted to make sure that there wasn’t too much of a step up into the building. We had Half an inch of snow about three years ago and it lasted about two hours so we don’t have a problem with snow here. The rainwater drains into the guttering at the back of the building and then into the soak away says no problem with excess water which could potentially cause subsidence. it’s all very dry.

@AngusMcGregor7 жыл бұрын
Hi Neil, I didn't plaster the whole walls. I filled the gaps between the plaster board, I used scrim tape first on the joints, then used plaster board gap filler. For the roof joists at the front and back I cut the plaster board to fit in between the joists. It was quite tricky. There is insulation behind this section too in-between the joists. I had to attached wooden battens in place to make sure the plaster board had something to attached to. The roof joist are just sitting flat on top of the stud work on the walls. I screwed through the roof joist into the walls to attach them. The long rear section attached to the roof joists at the back of the building hold it together like a frame. This is where the strength comes from. I hope this answers your question. I am not sure what value it has added to the house.

I'm going to use a level concrete slab as my main foundation/base. Originally for my floor, i was then going to frame out floor joists and insulate inbetween and board ontop, however i have had a thought of whether i need floor joists at all! Could i use a 50mm x 100mm pressure treated soul plate fixed to the concrete along the perimeter of the shed. Lay DPM over the site (so ontop of soul plate and folded down ontop of know internal concrete slab). Then have a floating floor of 50mm rigid floor insulation butted together and taped, with t&g floor boards floating ontop. Is there a problem with this design? could i get away with it? Any advice from anyone would be much appreciated.

Alexandre Bernardes Hi, it was around 2.7 metres high. 20cm was below ground level at the front to keep this to 2.5metres high. I was determined by the door height. Just measure each element ie blocks , sleeper depth, 4x2, door height to the top roof joists. Plywood and the insulation thickness.

did you "test" the sound proofing before completion construction?
@AngusMcGregor5 жыл бұрын
Gary Stinten i tested it before I put the plasterboard on. Then once I put the plasterboard on it was even better as I used the thicker type.

On your budget why is radiator so expensive? And why do you not have windows and doors on costing?
@AngusMcGregor6 жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes, the radiator was expensive. We wanted a column traditional radiator to fit the traditional look. They are expensive when they are electric. You can buy cheaper electric radiator but not 4 column traditional ones. The windows and doors are listed on the actual cost column. Does this answer you question okay?

Can one be built on a lower budget like build one without some parts and pieces you’ve used yet still be stable?
@AngusMcGregor6 жыл бұрын
If you get more free items then you could do it cheaper, It depends if you want to fully insulate it too as it would be cheaper not fully insulating it. The heater and the lights were expensive items you could save money there too.

Excellent vid, thanks for sharing. Can I ask for your front dimensions?? I.e height of floor, doors, header, joist and insulation. Finding it hard to keep below 2.5metres with a 2.1 metre door. Thanks in advance!
