It seems like so far, the games take place in roughly the order of their release. Here's what I've pieced together as a timeline. The Man in The Window 1 takes place first since we see Junior as a child. Then Beware the Shadowcatcher happens as this is the first appearance of Shadow People. It seems like there's a timeskip at some point before The Vermander Curse takes place, as the reoccuring characters from that game forward don't appear to age much. But it's hard to say if it happens before or after Beware the Shadowcatcher. After The Vermander Curse is Midnight Maids, since at that point J.P. is selling the Vermander estate. Then Artifacts and Antiquities happens because we see one of the Shadow People from Beware The Shadowcatcher now working for the storage company, and Nurse Morton works at the hospital in the intro to the game so we know it has to be after The Vermander Curse. And finally The Man From The Window 2 is the most recent currently, as Junior is an adult working at the shipping company, and J.P. is working his delivery driver job. I honestly look forward to seeing more of this world in Zed Technician's future games.

They sure have, I've pretty much come to love all the ZTgames. Short and sweet with a great mix of humor and horror, with fun puzzles and mechanic to boot. But Zed really knows how to make those bad endings hurt, and the ones in this game felt like real gut punches. The worst is probably the second bad ending, really enforcing that Nothing is Scarier trope, with it only focusing on Jr. at work. Like him, we have no idea what to expect when he runs home after that incomprehensible phone call, 4 hours after Audrey was taken. Poor (Gra)Mama Rabbit was probably incoherent with grief after failing to protect her granddaughter, or worse. Really makes trying to get the good endings all worth it. I like the idea that The Man From The Window wasn't just a one-off experience; one night a book happened upon them, and now it is a family curse that will be handed down. All they can do is try to teach their children how to grow with the evolving threat. It isn't a fear that really effects the player, but one I imagine the family feels; the pressure to get it done right. Because one fuck up, one night they don't get it completely right, and one of their loved ones is taken forever. All it takes is one mistake. One lapse in memory.
@PsycoAxeFairy Жыл бұрын
The way this is written The Man From The Window has parallels with a lot of real life working class horrors, because there's a lot of things in an impoverished life where you can NEVER fuck up, not even once, or suffer a major loss or lose a family member like missed payments or missed parole appointments.
@Luigifan4ever11 Жыл бұрын
@@PsycoAxeFairy Very VERY interesting observation! Man, I love this developer. It's not overly polished and the character designs are weird but it's always surreally realistic. The world continuity is addicting.

17:25 - I love this scene, it's so cute. 17:30 - Maybe it's the mustache, but I feel the need of Vermander screaming: "Nobody expect the Vermander Inquisition" when he comes in the scene. 18:38 - This game is so wholesome.

Didn't expect a sequel for this, but it was a nice one. Thank you Manly for playing it, also very strange that you can't put the lock on the door.

With the unbridled force the Man used to bust it open, I doubt a lock would have done anything. The dude was MAD.

@@katarinacarrico7887 True, but if I see it on the door in-game then better don't put it if it does nothing in a game like this.

You’d think they’d have tried setting up a trap for The Man by now. I mean, he tells you exactly where he’s going to look. Just set up a bear trap or something. Actually, that’s a good idea for a sequel… The Man returns, but this time you want to get rid of him for good, so you have to set traps and stuff Home Alone style to annoy him to the point of leaving you alone.

This is one of those developers that is definitely learning game development as he goes, and it’s very entertaining to watch as they progress. I imagine in 1-2 years time they’ll be able to put out games with longer playtimes (honestly the only complaint I have; say what you will, these games are *WAY* too short).

Holy hell. I just started the video, because I went back to check if it was Junior in the first game but also, the absolute improvement in style is. Whew! Like holy crap man! Also The Man sure does love(?) this family if he keeps coming back lmao!

It took me a while to get used to zed techs art style, but honestly, now that manly has played though so many of his games, the style has really grown on me, most of the character designs are charming in one way or another

I fecking love how a lot of these stories not only have continuity, their charm and so on - but that a lot of these seem to be set in the same region. With some others being more separated (like the story with Manticora[?] lady and her her snake tail in which region these is paranormal creature alert every few weeks)

Gameplay wise, I think this is perhaps slightly more difficult than the first one since you really have to remember all the different places to hide within a limited time frame. But in my opinion it's not as fun. I liked using the keys, barricading the entrance, and opening the donut box to slow him down. That little bit of variety is pretty nice.
@tori_aviator2 жыл бұрын
however, for 10? years ago it would have been possible to understand that being distracted by donuts and opening doors is bad. And, well, they don't want to change broken locks every time...

My theory is that eventually he's gonna get so tired he isn't gonna even give the book, the only warning he's coming will be a big tap on the window. He's gotten so angry this time he ripped out the pages, I think there won't even be any instructions next time
@tori_aviator2 жыл бұрын
there is some idea. although I don't understand why it takes him all the time to search in designated places. in theory, he should have a couple more seconds.. on inspection with the opening of the all doors and only then search for more details. (there is not enough time for the last time, but if the player is at least behind the door, the pedestal did not hide but stood in the middle of the room...

Really enjoyable sequel! I like how you have to hunt down the pages, and how the man speeds up to the door. I couldn't imagine just tolerating living with a creep coming around probably every few years or so just trying to abduct my family members if we didn't hide properly. That truly sounds like one of my nightmares. My nightmares usually revolve around the theme of me being chased, hiding, and then being found, no matter how good my hiding place is, and forced to repeat the cycle countless times until I finally wake up.

Knowing the wholesomeness of this dev, in Man from the Window 3, the man will probably finally find a freaking friend and leave them alone for good.

I like how Junior working at the Stahl brothers is a reference to Artifacts and Antiquity, and JP from the Vermander curse delivers the food because at the good ending of the game it says he had to work as a food delivery driver because he wasn't qualified for anything else, the amount of linking to the other games is always awesome

I really enjoy this series. I like the continuation of the rabbit family (I love rabbits, and that first game really stuck with me), and the art style in these games is so strangely appealing to me. I do enjoy this world the devs are building. It would be nice if that man left the family alone for good, though. I feel like some of the other games had a happier, more final ending. Makes me wonder if there’s going to be a third game dealing with this family and the man. I kind of hope so.
