From start to finish, Robert Vaughn exemplifies cool, class, and chivalry, especially in the face of danger as Napoleon Solo. RIP

At the end , for a moment just a moment , Napoleon contimplates the virtues and predictability of regular family life. He then , upon reflecting , takes solace in the life he has made for himself , that of a cool , world class , jet setting , secret agent. There is however a hint of melancholy in Napoleon realizing that he may never have that life.
@2hcobda25 ай бұрын
If Max & 99 could make it. then so could Napoleon. Of course, the Chief & Hymie & Fang / K13 / Morris helped a lot. Unfortunately, all too often, spouses/families are unwanted by the producers of TV shows & movies,.

And Patricia Crowley? Such an exquisite and talented leading lady!
@stephenwilliams75743 жыл бұрын
There had to be some sort of connection between Crowley and Vaughn. A few years after this show Patricia had her own TV show "Please Don't Eat the Daisy" a show about an average housewife with kids. Robert Vaughn did a guess appearence as a government agent checking why the family ordered gun powder, which turn out to be the young boy bought it for a science project.

@@stephenwilliams7574 It may sound a bit farfetched and I could be wrong, but I think their appearances on each other's shows had to do with the both of them (actors and shows) being on NBC at the time.
@stephenwilliams75743 жыл бұрын
@@TheAverycross yes, being on the same network makes the "approval" from the powers that be easier. but those days there were a lot of network shows, lot of actors with very little crossover.no one knows for sure, who knows maybe dumb luck
@TheAverycross3 жыл бұрын
@@stephenwilliams7574 I agree! Or it could have been, too, (and I haven't thought about it at first!) that both shows at the time were run by MGM while they were on NBC. It's just another thought on this end, but I do agree with you on limited opportunities for actors at that time to "cross over" for guest roles on other shows, especially on the same network.

" The Vulcan Affair " Which Was The Pilot Episode of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. . The Producers Decided on WASP and Not THRUSH For The Name of The Protagonists in The Show . The British Series " Stingray " Also Used WASP = World Aquanaut Security Patrol . So The Change From WASP To THRUSH Was Made For Legal Reasons . THRUSH = Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undersirables and the Subjugation of Humanity . WASP = Worldwide Authority for the Subjugation of People .
@startrekker88035 ай бұрын
interesting but not a least quite accurate.....When they packaged it as a movie for over seas theatrical viewing they feared that Thrush sounded too much like Bond's SMERSH ( Bond's original enemies in the novel's , mentioned in From Russia with Love movie and year's later in The Living Daylights ) and since they already had a go around with the makers of Bond over the use of the name Solo ( not to mention other things ) they dubbed in the name WASP. Neither the meaning of THRUSH or WASP was defined officially, it was the fans that came up with the meaning of the acronyms.
@lalkayy.95415 ай бұрын
@@startrekker8803 Yes it Was Fans of The Show That Came up With The Acronyms of THRUSH and WASP . For instance David McDaniel Came up With The Acronym for THRUSH in The 1965 Novel " The Dagger Affair " .

I mean... No love for David McCallum at all in that lovely summing upof the show? The true breakout of the show? He got more letters than anything else from the show. He was just as essential as Vaughan was to the success of the series and deserves some respect too. R.I.P to both Robert and David.

The U.N.C.L.E. series was the best, in terms of quality, during the first season, when it was done as a serious show and was produced by Sam Rolfe and Norman Felton. After the success of the show, as Vaughn has noted, different producers came in and changed the show into a farce and lost credibility. It will be interesting to see how Guy Ritche directs the new movie version with Henry Cavill as Solo.

Hello Willie. Thank you for watching. The primary reason (there are a few various reasons) we can't show the entire movie here on KZbin is due to copyright requirements. Since we don't own the rights to the content, we can't show it in its entirety and in the 4k ultra HDTV quality range that viewers would like to see. However, we always try to note in our commentary that accompanies each video the origination source of the content. In this case of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. pilot, it is included in a very nice DVD package that includes all of TMFUNCLE episodes that were expanded into feature films for International audience distribution by MGM back in the 1960s. We highly recommend this wonderful DVD set. Check out Amazon/eBay/B&N to learn more about purchase. Thank you again for your comments and for watching. - Television Vanguard staff

The first season of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was far superior to the three seasons that followed; more credible stories and dialogue and better acting. Vaughn has said in interviews that when the show was being produced by Sam Rolfe and it adhered to the premise of an ordinary person being recruited by Solo and Illya to assist them in their spy activities, it was considerably more entertaining. Later, during the series' run, it became a spy parody like the Niven/Sellers Casino Royale.
