The first time I’ve ever witnessed the masculinity of black women was around 2004 when Ciara was blowing up. There were so many speculations of her being a man: her body being too tall, masculine, and not having enough assests (her chest, thighs, butt), she takes medication to change her voice and her facial features were too strong for a woman (i.e doesn’t fit the Eurocentric beauty standards). It angered me how so many people automatically believed the rumors.

YES, MEGAN WITHOUT MAKEUP looks like a Boy, Michelle cause of her Pronounced eyebrow bones and jaunting underbite and height Including it that looks more manly, Serena as well because not only is she built but she's thick and musclar which gives her a more manly overall look plus her thick eyebrow bones and scowl. NOW LETS MOVE ON TO WHITE celebs who look more masculine who get MADE FUN OF that you don't wanna talk about .. Very famous actress Jane Lynch (from Gleek etc) constantly gets called a man cause of her thick eyebrow bones, her square jaw and her tendency to not dress girly. Very famous actress Glenn Close for almost all of her career got called a transgender and get compared to looking like George Washington all the time cause of her broad shoulders, male jaw etc. 90s star Clea DuVall always got called manly, even in magazines because of her prominent forehead, brow structure and gait. Tilda Swinton till this day gets told "come on, just come out already you're transgender right?" And she's had to answer back more times than she can count "no im female, I guess my face just doesn't look girly enough for you people and I refuse to wear makeup to do so." Comedian and actress Fortune Feimster gets called a man constantly, including being heckled during her stand-up routines cause of her weight, gait, height and facial features she looks more masculine. Etc. Etc. Etc. Maybe hop out of your one race bubble and you'll see that ALLL races of women are judged harshly on their femininity and ALL races are called out when a famous male or female looks more girl (take Justin beirber in his younger younger years) or more masculine. And anyone who dares say that none of those listed above women don't look manly are lying to push an agenda and that's more telling of your own insecurities!

I think you are correct that this happens even more with African American woman, and it's really just sad. But great video!!!💜🤟🏻👊🏼

I remember when this was a huge issue for Gaga and I was so confused about it as a whole. I really do not understand how people can look at someone and then demand to see their privates to prove they are a certain gender....like what is fundamentally broken inside these people to think it's okay?

Even if we showed our privates it wouldn't be enough for them, they'd probably say it's fake. So I wasn’t going to say anything but growing up I’ve been told that I resemble my dad a lot. As a child and teenagers I never thought too into it and just saw it as me resembling a parent which many people do. In elementary school I remember being bullied for my height and once was told by a boy that I need to shave my “mustache” hinting to some masculinization. Fast forward to these days. I’m 23 and probably go on social media a bit too much because that’s when I started getting comments that I looked like a man and being asked if I’m trans gender and these were combined with racism. Some people would “defend” me and say that I just have “more testosterone” than other women and that “some black women just look more manly”. It definitely hit me the hardest when a potential date asked me if I was transgender…. Of course I had bouts of feel insecure and questioning my appearance and even life. There were times that I would stare at myself in the mirror and try to see what other people would see. Some days I would see the resemblance I have with my dad- the more broad jawline and longer face (which was also nicknamed “horse” face online) and other days I would see a beautiful women with nice round eyes and smiles and cute nose. But still it’s hard to shake the idea that I’m considered more masculine by other people. I’m slim and have an athletic build naturally. I’m most times more content with my body than my face, believing that my body is amazing and even model worthy sometimes, etc and get confused when even my body gets masculinized. Sometimes I wish I never got into these social media apps because my image of myself was not skewed beforehand…
@RidleyJones3 жыл бұрын
One of the things that really makes me roll my eyes is people saying "but a STALLION is a MALE horse!" like they've cracked some secret code. Aside from the fact that if she were really trans and trying to hide it, using that moniker would be counterproductive, it's like it doesn't occur to them that she might want to communicate in playful, metaphorical ways...y'know, like a rapper would do. No one believes Da Baby is a literal infant or Lil Uzi Vert is a literal gun.

They claimed that her narrow hips, wide shoulders, and stong bone structure have them cause to believe that she had a hormonal advantage over other contestants. They put into place "testosterone regulations", to determine eligibility to participate in women's olympic events. Mind you, providing documentation of hormone levels is not a requirement for every woman in olympic sports: only those they specifically request for. This battle went on for years. Caster absolutely refused to submit to their testosterone regulations, because why should she? She presented them with a birth certificate, but they said the issue wasn't a question of whether or not she was "female", it was whether or not her testosterone levels gave her an unfair advantage. They had no reason to suspect she had high testosterone, other than their perception that she was 'manly'. Then two years ago, summer of 2019, the Olympic committee determined that Caster Semenya was ineligible to race in the women's league, and was barred from competing. Every time I think about that I feel a pit in my stomach.
@YourMoonJoy3 жыл бұрын
I'm still disgusted by how she was treated. Even if she does produce slightly more testosterone levels (which some women do like anyway) why would she need to be barred. We found out that Phelps produces less Lactic Acid than the average person which means he's able to go faster and longer, I don't see these sports regulators demanding more rules placed to restrict him from competing.

Jokes are one thing, mockery is another and its a thin line between love and hate. When jokes cross the line into discrimination we will just have to call a spade a spade, a form of hate that puts so-called Black women at risk of all the degradation mentioned in this video.. We can't continue to be the brunt of all this mockery which gives the world an excuse to terrorize and mistreat not only us as women, but our children too. I was always one of the tallest girls in my class and the one super tall friend that made everyone else feel so happy to be a “normal” height. Ive been called names just because of my height, weight and muscle definition. Being confined to certain standards really held me back socially and made me so insecure to the point where I developed a binge eating disorder. This resulted in me putting on weight in order to attempt to loose muscle definition and eventually attain enough curves to be considered feminine and left alone. I still struggle with this and it pains me to see how cruel people choose to be toward others who are different.

@NoirAngel5103 жыл бұрын
@Ahhh Hell I can already tell that you think this is all bullshit but, yes. Historically, black women were believed to be able to endure more pain so they often don't get the same medical treatment that white or non black women get. Dr. J Marion Sims operated on enslaved black women with no anesthesia because he believed that black women had a higher threshold for pain. This has unfortunately continued in the medical field. Beyonce and Serena Williams both talked about their traumatic birthing experiences and how their pain was ignored. Serena almost died from a blood clot. Her husband had to tell the doctor more than once to help her. She was ignored.

@Ahhh Hell Well thank God for your healthy children. Maybe the few black people that you personally know haven't experienced this type of racism. That doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I personally know a black woman who was denied a c-section because the staff believed she didn't have insurance. A midwife also told her that she wasn't "pushing correctly" because she was talking while pushing. Maybe you think that that had nothing to do with race but try telling that to someone who experiences micro aggressions from white people on a daily basis.

I SEEN THE BATTLE SCARS OF SLAVERY, ON MY FAMILY, ESPECIALLY MY GRAND POP, AND IT WASN'T PRETTY AND THE STORIES, THE FOCUS WAS AND STILL IS, IS TO KEEP BLACK FOLKS, IN A STATE OF MIND OF OPPRESSION, AND A LOW SELF ESTEEM, AND HATERED OURSELVES!FLATOUT!, GOD SAID, " NO WEAPON SHALL FORM AGAINST US PROSPER!"

I’m so happy you talked about this! I’ve always felt that I had to wear certain things or have. My hair certain way JUST to be validated by society that I’m a feminine woman and that’s so sad. Now I can see that society literally has embedded it in us to feel that way towards black women. Especially dark skin black women. Nice to know I’m not alone In feeling this way but it sucks to even say that

The footage of the movie @ 13:00 made me feel physically ill. Eventhough it was just for the movie, seeing a man so shamelessly physically harassing a woman is appalling. :(

I'll never forget how they did that to Ciara as well. Disgusting how we're in the 21 century and it just doesn't stop.

It's funny how this happens usually to dark-skinned black women (and randomly Lady Gaga) that have a natural body....

I said the same. Its the natural bodied women they do this too. But turn a blind eye to botched butt injection fake breast women like Niki and Cardi B. Natural and real is always despised because it isn't exaggerated. People forgot what genuine and natural beauty looks like.

I've read multiple academic articles trying to explain what you explained in this video and none of them explain it with the utmost clarity that you were able to, Ada. You're incredibly talented and well spoken. I wish you all the best for law school, but also want to just say that you'd make a phenomenal academic - your students would really benefit from your ability to think critically and explain complex phenomena so well. Sending you love
