‘women are too emotional’ ‘men should be able to express their emotions’ in the same conversation is INSANE edit, because y'all still have so much to say a year later: i think those statements contradict each other because you're limiting women for expressing emotions yet encouraging/praising men for doing so which is just double standards. it's also faulting women for being "too emotional" as if it's our responsibility that men can't learn how to express themselves. to everyone who's saying the statements can coexist; women being "too emotional" can exist at the same time as men being emotional (at all) and you don't have to put women down for that.

The immediate "A pretty woman can get what she wants" comment made me so furious. Like immediately saying that women's value is held in her appearance. Sure, if you're pretty you might get what you want- along with harassment and objectification and a weird sense of ownership from various men- but if you don't fit the beauty standards? It goes that way too- like, to be hired women have to wear makeup- to look presentable. There are literal initiatives that supply homeless women with makeup so they can get hired- because if you're not altering your appearance, you're not presentable. And women who don't fit the beauty standard are immediately devalued as people. NOBODY SHOULD BE JUDGED BY THEIR APPEARANCE- positively or negatively. And that's what women have to deal with, much more than men.

Men are more emotional and have less self-aware edit since people will take this the wrong way: obviously, women TEND to be more emotional yes, but I am replying to what OP said, in the way men often do not realize they are projecting and using internal emotional bias while thinking they are stoic lol. Women are more likely to know they are emotional, while men are not. Hence the lack of self-awareness.

I’ll add - in my Opinion inherently this isn’t something to ridicule anyone for, it’s a result of conditioning over a long period I think. But I think there comes a time where people should not think they’re exempt from embracing their emotions because it makes them any less ‘manly’. I think that’s where some pride and toxicity comes in but I just don’t really understand what is shameful about emotions. I think what they take to be ‘male traits’ like being courageous and powerful for example is actually synonymous with taking stock of your emotions and tackling them with acceptance and learning rather than maladaptive coping such as violence or substance abuse. Or even just bitterness or arrogance. Which is what many people seem to have.

For my part, it comes around the problem is not the idea of the feminism but how it is applied nowadays. The true problem is not people who have different opinion, but people who are unable to talk about it without violence, and generally speaking, the discussion was clearly more complicated when i was in a feminist group (not all of thoses groups were bad), but even from the side of incels ; some people, men and women alike, would just listen and brush your argument off because they are not truly ready to doubt themselves. But globally speaking, the insults were more violent when i was discussing with feminist who were really engaged in their movement, like a build up anger which waited to errupt and destroy something, and that kind of vibe was just scary !

What happened to the word "feminism" is what happened with every issue in the social media age: the loudest (and often times worst) voices get the most attention and the entire movement gets defined by them.
