I’m trying to imagine shoe shopping and finding out then, ever so casually, that my husband has won the lottery. And then he refuses to tell me how MUCH he won. And then has no documentation of that win or even a solid date for the win. I am a trusting soul, but dear god. How did this not set off FIRE ALARMS in her head?!?! This is just bizarre.
@Nocturnalux
@Nocturnalux Жыл бұрын
When I was a child, I picked up a winning lottery ticket. This was back in the early 90’s and a Portuguese lottery, which meant it was enough money to make a massive difference in my family’s life but not even remotely enough to turn anyone into a millionaire or anything even remotely like that. But even then, my father, who bought the actual ticket, showed my mother the ticket. They checked, together, several times, as they couldn’t believe it. They cashed the money together and got me to keep it secret, which was very wise. So it’s stunning to me how she was this weirdly blind, over an insanely larger amount of money.

@@jeremyhall7495 I get she trusted her husband…but by all accounts, he was so nonchalant when telling her they had won enough money never to worry about having to work again… My father’s first reaction was, “No way. I am seeing it wrong.” Even after having doublechecked, he approached my mother right away, still too floored to really believe it. The odds are so staggeringly against it that I think anyone would think they’d made a mistake, at first. In fact, it only fully hit them when the lottery people confirmed it- they obviously went together- and it was only when they really had the money that they relaxed. And the amount was vanishingly small compared to what, millions?

Not sure how one accidentally gets caught up in a lie. Telling a lie is a choice, no matter how reflexive a choice it has become for a habitual liar. Telling lie after lie to bolster the first lie doesn’t seem too accidental either. Not sure how deep down you’d have to dig to find the “good person” beneath all those deceptive thoughts, words, and actions.

Back then you could just about get by supportin a family of 3 kids and a wife on £250 a week, I know because my dad did this. The worst part is, a lot of the lying was possible because of general good will. People are generally pretty trusting and are willing to wait a long time with the expectation they will get what they’re owed. But then someone like him abuses that goodwill. And now the next time someone wants to legitimately purchase something but needs a little leeway to pay for it, there won’t be any trust.

I think he did enjoy it. He just feigned remorse, all con-artist are highly anti-social and manipulative. He only feared the consequences, not the damage it would bring to others. I am not convinced he ever really loved his wife.

I used to work with this guy in the early 2000s after all this had happened! won't surprise you to know he was just a normal guy and actually a really nice guy... I say it won't surprise you because that's what everyone says on these sorts of comments "he was a nice normal guy" but this is the first time I've ever seen something like this about someone I actually know so it feels a bit weird and a cliché but it's true!

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm open to most-if not all old styles of fashion making come backs, except for of course the mullet. My worst fears came true yesterday when I glanced in my rearview mirror and witnessed the worst mullet worn by a skinny dude smoking a massive cigar, wearing a sleeveless shirt and aviator glasses. I'm going to have to get the Drain-o ready if this style starts making waves again. 💀 I can't be subjected to such a sight again.

A distrusting person blinds you to ones you can trust. But most of the trust lies with you. When you trust someone you can't control what they'll do, so up your trust skills and beware of the dog that never barks.
