I watched that Yugo vs Spain match live. Dragan Stojkovic's first goal 3:46 against Spain sticks in my head, probably forever. He did not pounce the ball with first touch, the defender slid past him. How the hell a player, (1) playing in World Cup, (2) in an elimination match, (3) known for a very good skill and accuracy (as shown in his second goal), not hitting that kind of ball at first chance. He deserves a medal or something for that goal.

That's our Yugoslav mentality. We always try to win cunningly with tricks and brains. The downside is we're never really consistent and disciplined. Also, physically very lazy and not fit..most of that squad was smoking two packets of cigarettes a day.

This story cames from behind. In the UEFA cup, 1st round, that season. Napoli and Sporting face each other. The tie went to penalties. When Maradona was about to score his, Ivkovic went talk to him, and bet 100 dollars taht he would save his shoot. Maradona agree and he missed. If you see the footage of the game, you will see Ivkoci saying something to Maradona after saving his penaltie, and Maradona waving with his head to say ok.

That was a great Yugoslavia team. But people tend to forget how tough the Argentina defense was in that tournament. Ruggeri, Simon, Batista, Olarticoechea, Monzon, etc. It was one of the toughest and most solid defenses ever in the history of World Cup.

We Croats fought their occupation well, just, and won. It took us 100 years but we are on our way now as far as we can go from Serbian politics that for 150 years is trying to erase us from the map. Now just their criminal church still has political power in our country. Unfortunately, their lies are still present in day to day politics in Serbia and BiH, even in Croatia.

Serbia was *4th in the World Cup in 1930* , one of the first from the very start and has played in 12 World Cups. Serbia *Under19 has a European Champion generation that took the title in 2013* , Serbia *Under20 has a World Champion generation that won the World Cup in 2015* , Serbia has *Red Star Belgrade that won the European Cup in 1991 and Club World Champion Cup in Tokyo* , While Croatia never won anything and does NOT have a single title in any generation at all, so much about their "mental strenght" huh? :D

Oh FIFA, you missed the most interesting part of this story: September 4th, 1989. Sporting visited the San Paolo Stadium to face Maradona's Napoli in a second leg match of the UEFA Cup first round. The 0-0 draw, fifteen days earlier, in Alvalade did not bode well for the Portuguese team because after all, they had one of the strongest Italian teams ahead of them. However, 0-0 was maintained beyond 90 minutes and in extra time. It was necessary to go to penalties. It was then that Sporting goalkeeper Tomislav Ivkovic came into action, who had a story for life. The former Yugoslavian told in an interview in October 2010. "When he was about to take the penalty, I approached him and said: 'Do you want to bet $100 as I defend?' He accepted, I defended and at the end of the game he gave me his shirt and 100 dollars ", revealed Ivkovic. Napoli won that match and Maradona left the field with the Sporting jersey on. It was a confederate flag. You have to understand that many Serbs/Croats/Slovenes at that time wanted to succeed from Yugoslavia, just like the South succeeded from the union. It was a subtle way to protest or express yourself. Openly saying you wanted out of Yugoslavia at that time could still get you in trouble with the authorities.
