Lave watched "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" and now he's telling you what he thought about it. Terry Gilliam is back for a second attempt to make his Don Quixote movie with Jonathan Pryce as the man himself and Adam Driver caught in tow. But is it any good?

The fact there is people in the english speaking mainstream who does not know the existance of this novel literally blows my mind considering I am spaniard. Miguel de Cervantes would easily have lunch with your Shakespeare not doubt same table. We will give it a go though I hope has not ruined it. FYI that book is most translated book after holy bible

Don Quixote has long been one of my favorite books. In a way, I'm a bit like Alonzo; a man who wishes to be a knight. But I don't mistake things around me as giants, mythical beasts and whatnot

what's interesting is that Amazon studios in the US actually dropped it for its US release and the rights went to A24 instead. probably won't come out until next year here in the US.

Cheers Ian! Yeah I think this movie has done the rounds with distributors. Shame it won’t get a US release for a while, but then I don’t feel that bad about it. We always get films later over here in the UK. 😒 Hope you are all good bro!

Good review! As much as I like Terry, he seems to be wrestling with personal demons lately? I was hoping Quixote may bring him back to his 'Brazil' phase of just a rebellious movie with some dark hope weaved in. But movies like Tideland and Zero Theorem are just SO dark, I literally want to hit myself on the head with a hammer after watching them. Coupled with Heath Ledger dying on him, and the petty #MeToo crap he had to endure, and not giving up on Quixote still. So like you say, I'm glad Terry finally got it out of his system. But also sounds like he's getting old and tired and delivering for the sake of delivering. A Rebel Without A Cane - if you will.

“Rebel without a cane” LOL. I’ve had Zero Therom on Blu Ray for ages just never got round to watching it. I will at some point though. Always got time for Gilliam. Even when he’s not on top form. Thanks for watching my review, really appreciate it. ✌🏻

I touched on it in my review but I think because a few directors tried to make this before Gilliam and when he took over it was a disaster. Check out the documentary “Lost In La Mancha. It’s a good watch, especially if you like behind the scenes stuff. ✌🏻

"The man that killed Don Quixote" is not for everyone, but.... If you have read the work of Miguel de Cervantes and like the work of Terry Gilliam than this movie is for you. Terry Gilliam tried to make a Don Quixote film years ago starring Johnny Depp. The entire project was scrapped and this film seems to be a throw back to that. It seems like you are glimpsing in to that failure. If you are a fan of the book, there are some really great scenes that were neglected till now. The skewering of wine, the saving from chain gang, the travelling to the sun and moon. If you are a fan of Terry Gilliam there is a great scene where Adam Driver swipes away the subtitles and says, "We understand each other, we don't need these." "I was borned by the special will of heaven, in this age of iron to restore the lost age of chivalry, I'm the man for whom all dangers are expressly reserved it, and grand adventures and brave deeds also, I'm don Quixote De la mancha"

If you couldn't follow the story and have no idea what the film was about, but you couldn't care less, is that a bad sign? The main question regarding Gilliam's latest can only be: why do backers give him cash to make movies? The production money squandered on this epic headache can be seen on the screen - it is beautiful - but how could so much money be spent on such an appallingly boring piece of crap?

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE FILM for me I had to sit for 2 and almost half hours, sharing theatre with two old ladies and an old man. I was absolutely embarrased at the film, its laziness, its terrible performances, soundtrack, cinematography and above all, script. Stupid plot twists, continuity errors, scenes that came out of nowhere... One of the worst experiences I´ve had in theatres. Nice video anyway Lave!

@@DenizAydanG Terry Gilliam has done some nice work: I've watched Brazil, the Zero Theorem, the brothers grimm and 12 monkeys. And i enjoyed all of them. I know he does make weird, subjective films. Regarding The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, I just get nothing out of it but nonsense. It's just a bunch of stupid ideas and crappy technical execution. And Im sorry for him, because it took a long time to be made

Like I said, if you can't understand it that's surely not Gilliam's fault, and you should accept that instead of insulting a genius artist's decades of work. Especially if that artist is widely acclaimed, what your saying is merely foolish.
