I'm a tax accountant with mostly hedge fund clients so I have the opposite attitude. Keep gains unrealized for deferred taxes and realize losses to write them off. The stock is usually much less volatile though.

I don’t invest but there’s one way to invest in my eyes if you do. Put in money you won’t be hurt if you lose it. If there’s an opportunity to sell and make money than do it and do not wait for a bigger amount incase this happens! Then take some of your winnings and reinvest and rinse and repeat! It’s safe, might not make you too much cash but it’s the safest way to do so if your really gonna gamble.

Here what people dont realize abou this guys REAL investment. He initially invested 250k, from which he borrowed a majority of it. THen he got margin called!!!!! YES MARGIN CALLED and LOST 75k!! That leaves him with only 175k and 75 negative/loss!! NOW doge coin is at .07 which leave him at around 250k. Which means he is only up ZEERRROOOOO!! He just broke even.

Problem that sticks out with doge is the number of coins (over a billion) and lack of control of issued coins versus say bitcoin with max supply of 21 million. Doge in it's nature is price deflationary in that newly minted coins are able to constantly flood the market and depress prices. Price rises are destined to fail.

Idk how old he is, but I'm guessing maybe like 35? Gosh, he could've sold near the top and invested even $1m after taxes and as long as his retirement account is growing at an 8% average he would've been set for life! $1m with an 8% average growth from 35-65 would grow to $10.9m. He could even pull some out as it grows if he wants to gamble his money again, but he wouldn't let it grow to that amount even if he did invest it...
