/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul and the Mandalorian Season 3 finale is finally here. There's lots of easter eggs, hidden details and throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down the entire entry and talking about where it leaves things off.
I also wanna give my review for the season so stick around until the end of the video where we talk about the good, the bad and the grogu.
Please hit that thumbs up button for the final time and with that out the way, let's get into the episode.
Now last week saw The Mandalorians travelling to Mandalore in order to go into the great forge. Here they found Moff Gideons forces and discovered that he'd been mining beskar from the planet in order to create the next stage of the dark trooper. We also pointed out in our breakdown last week that the toopers in jetpacks may be Imperial Supercommandos and I believe this has now been confirmed by the creative team. He had Din escorted out for a debriefing and we ended with him unleashing his praetorian guards. Rocking Mandalore inspired masks they killed Paz Viszla leading to a big cliffhanger for this week.
Now that picks up with Bo Katan and Co racing through the underground whilst she reaches out to Axe woves. The signal breaks up and last week we talked about how it was weird that no one could get a signal out through the storms but Moff Gideon was holding 4k hologram meetings with the shadow council. Huge shoutouts to a lot of you who pointed out that the imperial base is actually likely jamming the comms which might be the case though the signal does drop out the higher Axe gets.
Anyway back on the ground we see Bo firing away at the troopers and you might notice that the blasts hit the armour but dont effect the person beneath. Ryan Arey pointed out in his breakdown last week that the only time the troopers go down is like his mom

i’m happy that there wasn’t a mandalorian spy. the whole point lately has been to show the resilience and unison between the culture that was supposed to be destroyed. to have an example among them who’s disloyal and goes against what they believe in would just discredit that united ideal. i’m glad they were all working together as hard as possible willing to risk it all for eachother.

It means that Bo-Katan seeing they Mythosaur was no accident: Grogu brought her there and made sure the that she saw it. Each time it was just the eye opening but that was enough. RIP Dark Saber, such a weird season. I felt like we should’ve gotten more, at least more of Gideon. Like how he escaped who helped him and how long was he on mandalore cloning himself. I wish we got more of Gideon killing troops out of anger and terrorizing planets and people. Didn’t see to much of this big bad Gideon. Would’ve loved for Din to have held onto the Dark Saber, maybe than it wouldn’t have gotten destroyed. The Mythosaur basically stayed a myth and not centric part of the season. Glad that Din Djarin survived though with his own place watching Grogu. More likely get Din again in the Movie and that’s about it. Seems like Din and Grogus story may be done for now. Unless they plan on going back to bounty seasons like the first season. Would love to see another Villain Bounty Hunter coming after Din if they decide to go the bounty route. Still feel like it was very lackluster. The Mandalorian felt like it could’ve gone on for 5-7 seasons. Such lackluster writers and such a letdown for Din should’ve been. Felt very Jon Snow too me.

But I don't think the showrunners ever meant for Din to have the Dark Saber and only used it as way to unite the Mandalorians as evident in the way the laser got destroyed in the end. I can see where some were confused with Grogu already being back with Din in the first episode, but I also think S2 made it pretty clear they were setting up the Mandoverse, and you’re going to need to watch everything if you want to keep up.

The finale was a bit underwhelming. My favorite moment this season is hands down the reveal that Ahmad Best’s jedi was the one that saved Grogu, his performance as the character, and just how incredible of an idea it was to call up the guy that literally was hurt by his association with this epic franchise that every other actor has gotten to enjoy and be proud of, and offer him this role that ANYone would die for. That was actually magical.

I’ve really enjoyed this season and this series as a whole. I do really like that it basically focussed on Din initially before expanding it to include other Mandos later like Bo Katan in season 2 before becoming much more focussed on the Mandalorians in general this season. I think it would be fair to say that Katee Sackhoff’s Bo Katan was the real stand out this season, for me at least, and in many ways she was the joint lead. I’ve been a big fan Katee since Battlestar and of her portrayal of Bo Katan since her start in Clone Wars. I only wish there had been some discussion of her sister Satine. Looking forward to Bo and Ahsoka interacting again, whenever that might be.

I doubt that Moff Gideon had figured out that he needed Ysalamiri when cloning Force sensitives, so there's a good chance that those clones would have been completely insane with the Force and probably would have just killed Gideon and took his place and unleashed all sorts of hell on the Galaxy

Here’s something for your next Theory Time regarding how Din Djarin’s name is last/first. After a couple of days to think it through, I believe the reason Din Djarin has the original alliteration of his culture’s use of name placement (last name/first name) is that while he was a foundling of the Children of the Watch and probably had a guardian; he was never formally adopted into a house so he never took a Mandalorian surname, and this also explains why he did not have a clan affiliation until he and Grogu became the Mudhorn Clan. Ragnar is a foundling but was adopted by Paz therefore he bears the Vizla House name and belongs to that clan, wears the house/clan colors and insignia. Din had no such house name, clan nor insignia. This is also why he is easily singled out by Axe as not being a true Mandalorian even though the Creed honors foundlings. He became an apprentice when he was able to speak the Creed and was assigned a teacher (notice the Armorer specifically says teacher not his adoptive father or mother - she may have even been his teacher or his teacher was someone she highly respected due to the reverence which she says his teacher). So giving Grogu his family name is big. Love to hear your thoughts

I agree with a lot of your opinions. I do think that most people will return for next season because there is enough to keep people interested. If they can now give more conflict to Mando and Grogu that would be great. As long as they don't back away next season from adding conflict to the beginning. Then they can also introduce the bo katan Mando relationship as well. At least a start. As we know if they actually go through with that it will end the series so it has to be drawn out. The best thing to focus on next season is Grogu's arc on dealing with his PTSD and Mando dealing with some backstory as well. This could be tricky but if handled well it will be a big win.

Grogu being the Mandalorian as opposed to Din Djarin would make sense. 1) Grogu could live, and live as a Mandalorian, longer than any one person or generation of Mandalorians; 2) Din Djarin may be a Boba Fett concept-I still think he is the Boba Fett we as fans imagined, where as Boba Fett is a character being that has a story distinct from anyone's imaginary legend; 3) Grogu can tame the Mythosaur through the force, and other Mandalorians can tame the species through trial and error study, showing a willingness to do this by raising the founding monster bird chicks this season; 4) even though Grogu has been a tag along character, almost everything in this show, across all the seasons, focuses on what he is and can do. Now we have a means of seeing that Dr. Pershing's studies may be key to all matters relating to cloning-that came from studies of Grogu. The culture and lessons of the Mandalorians will likely live through the long expected years of Grogu. Mandorians can be creatures who learn battle techniques of humanoids but who operate mechanical bodies, like Grogu. 5) Grogu has learned from Din Djarin- the most dogmatic of the Mandalorians, Luke- the last master of the historical enemies of the Mandorlians, Bo Katan-the modern and most pragmatic of the Mandalorians, and the Armorer-the historical and spritual leader of the Mandorians. He has learned from strong men and strong women in these teachers. He has learned from the pain in life, and been inspired by life's marvels. And he has traveled throughout and within so many elements of societies and planets throughout the galaxy. I foresee the last episode of the Mandalorian sega being Grogu, finally able to speak but using some form of a voice synthesizer to sound closer to Dinn Djarin than his unaltered voice, in a mech suit that resembles a cross between Moff Gideon's armor and Dinn Djarin''s, being shown to be an X factor in the victories of the Rebels/New Republic for years to come.

I really really enjoyed the season and from reading a lot of comments over lots of KZbin videos covering season 3 the majority of fans enjoyed it as well. Which is why I find this narrative of season 3 being disappoint confusing lol Anyway roll on Ashoka and season 4 of Mando

They did and still do the same with the Marvel shoes and movies. Like stop creating your own head cannon and expecting that to play out in someone else’s mind/vision. If you want to see a certain thing, make it yourself. Saying “things thing didn’t live up to my weird ass expectations so therefore this thing is mid, trash, etc,,,” is WIIIIIIILD to me

I don't feel like the Gideon clone reveal undermines the whole Snoke thing. They literally showed in the last episode that Gideon started what he was doing under Project Necromancer, then used Mando rescuing Grogu as an excuse to lie and say all his research was destroyed--so he could use it for himself without the other council members knowing. If anything it makes more sense, and it's what I've been theorizing since last week.
