Hi Alex, thank you for choosing to do this. So many directors refuse to explain themselves or their art, to the point where it becomes gatekeeper-y. I have so much respect for anybody that meets the audience where they're at, because art is for all of humanity to participate in! There are songs in all of our hearts, and it is the cruelest fate that most of them go unsung.
@formerctgovernordannelmall145220 сағат бұрын
Mostly just being pedantic here, but I dont think a refusal to explain oneself or ones own art is necessarily "gatekeepery" David Lynch, for example, literally thought he was robbing you of the capacity to "go dreamy for yourself" when watching his films by explaining the motive or reasoning or deeper meaning behind his art. Now, dont get me wrong, David Lynch is a whole different beast from Alex Kister, but I think it still applies. For some people, closure can be a kind of drug that pacifies you from really meditating on what it is you saw I, too, appreciate Alex doing this, tho
@chanofrom69th18 сағат бұрын
I think it CERTAINLY depends on the fiction, i dont want a directors commentary for some things
@SlashXIV10 сағат бұрын
@@formerctgovernordannelmall1452 I wouldn't say it's gatekeeping, but when you release a form of media that people ADORE and create an entire universe out of, I feel like that in itself owes some picking of your brain as an author. It's good for the world in general. You never know who you could inspire to create even more art in just describing some of your thoughts and how your brain works and puts this type of art together.

"JESUS LOVES ME YES HE DOES HAAAAAAAAAAAAa" Overthrone had one of the best endings (other and the Mandela Prophet becoming the catalyst to Gabriels ultimate downfall after he takes Davis eyes) in the series, and forshadows what is to come "I am bound to my chains on my ankles that grow heavier with every step, the infinite amount of sand will be my tomb, and my foolishness will be my legacy. if there is a god, please help me." And the ending to episode 4 with Gabriel stating: "I DECEIVED HIM, THE MANDELA PROPHET. WE HAVE THEIR PRAYERS, AND THEIR RECORDS. IT BEGINS TODAY." Absolutely love this series. Alex will always have my support. He doesn't lie to his fanbase and has always been honest when it comes to episodes and their release date .....unlike Martin Walls/Paredes.

One thing about this video that is truly beautiful is your vulnerability with how your religious experiences, trauma, and crisis are deeply rooted in the history of this series. It’s not something people wouldn’t admit about their own storytelling, but I’m proud of you for being able to, even if it’s something so small.

I've been a massive fan since the first episode came out, feels like watching a neighbour's child growing up cuz it's not your child but you see the efforts going into the growth and development over the years, and the Mandela Catalogue has been something near and dear to me for a number of reasons. Was very sick when it came out, I clung to it like glue because I hadn't seen anything with quite this specific content before and it hit close to home. I'm elated to hear you're doing some kind of movie, and I always say how proud I am of you for making so much of this and growing in popularity. (Idk how else to word it, I'm not your parent. I just love seeing creators grow.) Congrats on so much of this, I hope you can make something you're proud of always.

Jokes apart, i really feel you with the beginning of this story. I've been making poems, and, for the last two years, the religious domain has been a weird obsession for me even tho i'm atheist. There is so much to say about christianism only for exemple, the Book, Nietzsche, the concepts of afterlife. It is a valuable source of creation. Thanks for using it so well :)
