I watched this movie before I watched any sopranos and I thought it was pretty good. I feel like people didn’t really understand what David chase was trying to execute. It Made me want to watch sopranos beginning to end so I could understand everything in this mob world. Maybe now that I’m almost done with the series and I’m attached to some of the characters that when I watch many saints a second time I’ll have a different opinion. Well done! I liked the Many Saints of Newark but like many, I was pulled in by the thought the movie was primarily about a young Tony Soprano. Still, it was pretty good, it honoured the back-story we knew from The Sopranos and did answer a lot of questions. @Harry Bogaev actually you’re right, he rarely had scenes to himself where it was just him, from what I remember we always kind of skimmed over his activities in the show. Great video. Spot on with the references. But, while I agree in spirit, I gotta counsel: Eckley "Boots" DiMeo is separate from Ercole "Uncle Eckley" Soprano, Tony's developmentally challenged uncle and George Raft lookalike. Also, from what I hear, there is a deleted scene of Junior basically contracting Jilly Ruffalo (the guy Dickie half-blinded) to do the hit. So currently I think I either Jilly did it himself or more likely, he gave the job to crooked cop Barry Haydu, thus insulating himself and even more so Junior from Dickie's murder. But still, great video. And I feel like no movie has given me more mixed feelings than Many Saints has. It's kinda baffling tbh

2nd video I have seen to make this mistake ; David Chase made a cameo appearance as Ercole " Eckley Soprano" the middle brother between Junior and Johnny who had learning difficulties and so was sent to a home to live, this is established in season 2 when junior tells Tony, who was up until that point unaware of his existence. Ercole Dimeo referred to as " The Old Man" was the original boss of the family who had been in jail since the 60's, that is referenced in Season one when Jackie Aprile refers to himself as acting boss "whilst the old man is a guest of the government" at the sit-down between Tony and Junior. It's all there if you watch the series and there is a family tree in The Sopranos family history....... Why would the boss of the family be a cameo?!
@sopranofilms27442 жыл бұрын
i thought this at first too but it definitely isn’t the Uncle cus remember Tony knew nothing about his uncle and i find it hard to imagine that he would just be around for the funeral all of a sudden especially with Tony being around 17 at the time i doubt the uncle would come to the funeral and tony still have no recollection of him it has to be the boss of the family he was never shown before and mind you Tony’s dad even refers to him as boss quickly before they enter the room you can see how all the guys tense up i don’t even believe the uncle would even be in the same room as all of the wise guys when you really think about it

I also had the 1st impression after watching the movie that the man was indeed Tony's "feeble minded uncle". But the pronunciation of the name is the reason I can't confirm. If I remember, Junior in the show said his name like 'erckole' which was a play on Hercules he mentions, he also said that he was taken care of in a foster home or something along those lines; so if that's true, how would unc ercole be involved in the crime business. In the movie the name is said as 'eckley' so I can't confirm if it is indeed Tony's other uncle that we see.
@DavidM-mb1vx3 жыл бұрын

I know I’m late to the party in this comment section but here’s my opinion on Dickies killer as well as Tony’s killer. If you know anything about Mob Boss hits and so forth, a lot of times they were unsanctioned hits done by outside parties. Not all of course but many. Since you had to go through so many channels to take out the made men it would probably be easier with less diplomatic engagement to hire an out of town killer to do the job. The fact we don’t know who pulled the trigger in either of those deaths is because it was an inside job. Just like Jr did to Dickie, he used an outside source. Tony pissed off so many people there’s no telling who got him popped. Could have been Furio🤭 but yea, a known person in the families wouldn’t have been tasked to do a kill like that in front of Tony’s family while in a diner full of people being able to give a description of them. An out of town hitter could have done the hit with a get away car at the door waiting, drive down to Florida and end of story. Just my opinion tho.

in the final scene the killer, Members Only jacket guy, can be seen clearly in reflection on the left chrome panel of the jukebox just before Tony rises his head at the bell when Meadow walks in. David Chase said if you "look closely" the answers are all there in the last episode and wasn't being metaphorical or symbolic. the killer's reflection is clear as day. nobody looked. and that is foreshadowed by the previous attempt and when the black guys came in just before the Members Only assassin

I was let down by the film, I wasn’t expecting it to be about Tony but at the same time I was hoping for more accuracy and exploration of the stories told about dickie on the show: none of which were even mentioned, I was ok with the conflict with Harold but totally uninterested in it as I wanted to see the jilly Ruffalo story, or the war with New England. Or how he was this famed drug addict. None of that was shown and one got a slight mention. The step mother thing was just boring too me. Plus all the retcons with the ages of the guys especially Christopher didn’t sit right. This movie should have been a limited series maybe 2 seasons or 3. Plus who are we kidding, as fans we wanted to see more Tony in his youth stories. Just because the movie was called many saints Newark it could have been a clever twist on the DiMeo gang. We could have seen stories of Jesus, or johnnies goomar Fran, Tony’s meeting of Carmela’s parents when he bought the expensive gift, the riche Aprile jacket fight, Paulie being more menacing just soooo much more that could have been.
@stevebell4853 Жыл бұрын
